In SEA Games race walking is often done inside the stadium so usually people 'accidentally' watch it on TV. Of course the less knowledgeable ones will find it funny and see no point why they have to walk like that (usually they call it geal geol which means "wobbling"). We have Hendro who is quite a decent athlete in South East Asian level (but sadly doesn't get much funding) so the respect for race walking is higher than what it was 10-15 years ago. He recently also accepted a challenge where he walks against a bunch of community runners, further increasing the awareness among the general public

Reminds me of omnium events during UCI Track Nations Cup in Indonesia. 90% of the crowd have no idea about track cycling, so they do not understand at all what is the difference of scratch/points/tempo and why this should be exciting. But elimination race is very intuitive and the crowd easily engage with the race (even cheering for the Hong Kong rider who barely survived elimination for 3 or 4 consecutive times). When the points race started, quite a lot of people went back home

I went to the Indonesia leg of FIBA World Cup trophy tour. A bit uncommon choice of venue, a hard to access open plaza with a giant Freedom Monument as the backdrop. There are better and more iconic places than here. By the time I arrived, there are only around 10-15 people, maybe as the sun sets more people will come.

We had an invitational tournament in the FIBA World Cup venue as a preparation to the Asian Games and probably as a consolation to the national team which failed to qualify to the World Cup. Syria and UAE are invited, where they will play with Indonesian senior and junior team. By the first day, a lot of drama has happened. First match on 4 PM was originally Indonesia A vs Syria, but 2 hours before the match it became Indonesia A vs Indonesia B because the Syrian team just arrived less than 24 hours before the match. Syrian team played UAE later in the evening and the organizers played Saudi anthem for the UAE team. Obviously they protested and requested to play the correct anthem, but the organizers weren't able to do it so the Emiratis were asked to sing their own anthem aloud
