  1. Nearby town is being hit pretty hard with 13 deaths all in the same relatively small nursing home. Not very surprisingly, it's a pretty strong Christian town...(meaning they all got together for their services and whatnot when it was already very clear that wasn't a good thing to do)
  2. I liked Jon Oliver's ending, where he talked about the absolute - by very very far - most important measure, annoying as the words may be: social distancing. It's rather horrific to still see leaders of nations talk about the virus situation while standing directly next to others with no way more than a meter between them
  3. Isn't that supposed to be the big thing to be unveiled at the end of the ceremony? Spoiler alert, Mr Takei.
  4. Wimbledon, that is. Too bad, but expected..
  5. Not 'a sort of', it is exactly that
  6. Next season won't end with the world championships anymore. These will be from 1-14 February, followed by a World Cup in Park City (15-20 February).....and then the first Beijing World Cup from 8 to 14 March! FFS, that's nearly a month between the last two World Cups, good job in killing the rhythm of the season.
  7. That's why I said 'basically', meaning 'roughly' Of course there's always outliers and people in between
  8. We still have 4 COVID-19-free municipalities (four of the five islands in the north )!
  9. Rule breakers in the background! @brunamoura would be so happy if this actually happened
  10. Even more breathtaking is people going on Twitter and bashing Trump about this. Sure, they could put a lower number there, but then people would complain they're not being realistic.
  11. Out of curiousity: how do you actually follow those multi-sports events in terms of having a clue about which athletes are good, what to expect in competitions and so on? Plenty of sports one can't realistically follow at a multi-sports event while having a clue of who the actual favourites are without following the regular seasons It's a little like people entering the prediction pools we've got thousands and thousands of during the Tour de France, without watching any other cycling race in the year, so they base their predictions based off of Wikipedia and are easy to beat
  12. I don't think many countries are lying about their numbers, I do think many countries don't have the full picture because it's all rather chaotic.
  13. Thing is, you've basically got two groups of movie-watching people: 1) People who simply want to sit back, watch a movie they like and be entertained 2) People who want to see some deep meaning and 'explored topics' and all that stuff in almost everything One is of course not better than the other, some people prefer this and others prefer that, but group 1 is definitely bigger and so movies that are more fitting for that category get more credit. Logically. Like I said, I sort of liked Arrival, it was interesting, but I liked Planet of the Apes more (and no, no deep meaning or whatever in that one, it's just apes taking over the world and let it be that )
  14. Only if all you care about is major tournaments Without multi-sports games, football and major tournaments/championships there is simply still an enormous amount of sports to watch for the regular fan if things get back underway
  15. 'will have to'? You mean 'get to'
  16. Now that is one messed up way of thinking. Mostly because it suggests also in normal times having a dictator is better. We've seen there are certain countries which did indeed fair better with a dictator than they do without one, sadly, but that's obviously not the case everywhere.
  17. That's not exactly what I said, what I said was that there's going to be tons of sports for sports fans once things get back underway
  18. That's a bit of an overreaction. Moving Tokyo doesn't change nearly as much in terms of 'boring nothing' as all sports (basically) coming to a total halt for as long as it takes. If sports at some point resume and slowly get back to their regular seasons and competitions, there once again is a shitload of stuff to watch, whether the Olympics (and due to that the other multi-sports events) were moved or not.
  19. Today's highlight video can be short I guess, only three goals and the most 'exciting' moment was a scary one, with one of Minsk's players shaking on his back on the ice. Luckily he got up.
  20. Oh damn. By now Italy is 'only' in 4th place in terms of new daily cases and the top-3 isn't even close anymore (for what it's worth, of course).
  21. The Belarussian playoffs final is underway between Yunost Minsk and Shakhtar Soligorsk. After the first two games in Minsk it's 1-1, now it's 1-1 in Soligorsk in the third match with one period to go. There's live streaming and it's sports, so we watch.
  22. Excellent explanation about why 28 April was chosen and not the end of May or something, quite simple: "Because it is simply impossible to look ahead more than a few weeks, so extending precautions already for almost two months from now makes zero sense." Completely agreed. Journalists have their brains already eaten, I think. "Why don't you just test the entire population?!" "Why 28 April and not until the end of the 'May vacation'?!" (this vacation ends on 3 May in most places) Ugh.
  23. +172 today, not 1000 (still a lot of course) 845 new cases today Although these new daily numbers are of course not always literally 'today', but mostly a combination of the total new cases of the past few days.
  24. Precautions are being extended, as expected. Specifically until 28 April, which is a bit of a weird random day, but fine I expected it to be until a Sunday again (with of course new possible extensions).
