  1. Yeah, let's say when looking at how many countries there are were at least a few people have heard of the name, Antetokounmpo would probably be number one indeed. Although in most countries I do think a large majority of people have no idea who he is, but of course that's the same with everyone who is not like Usain Bolt or Michael Phelps or nowadays possibly (just possibly) Simone Biles. Keep in mind generally a majority of people just don't really follow sports besides the one or two that are most popular in their country (in many cases football, annoyingly ).
  2. I don't think Yulimar Rojas is going to carry the Venezuelan flag by the way
  3. Confused: Wikipedia says Cuba sends Oscar Pino, but in the flag bearer thread I see Mijain Lopez as flag bearer for Cuba...what's up there?
  4. It's quite literally the only thing that can make this stage remotely interesting Let's hope..
  5. Thing is, until very recently there were still usually groups riding away in stages like this. Everyone knew that wasn't going to lead anything, but at least a few riders tried. Now they're just riding in a super slow pace without anybody trying anything and it's not even the first time this Tour. There was once a great stage in this region, because of wind and everything, and now the organizers seem to think that automagically means any stage here will be amazing.
  6. I like how 12 people voted, but 1 person apparently didn't think USA would get into the top-10 I mean, bet a single doller on USA being outside of the top-10 and you'd be set for life if it happens
  7. This Tour is having some of the most boring stages ever, damn. Exactly as expected when the organizers come up with bullshit like today's super flat stage right after a rest day (avoiding the chance of people with messed up post-rest day legs getting in trouble), but nowadays nobody even wants to go for a useless attack for the sponsor airtime anymore. Can't remember the last year I actually just thought "never mind, I'll tune in with 10k to go" Such a shame as well, because the start was great and the gravel stage Sunday was fantastic.
  8. I much prefer watching live, preferably 'together' with people (whether that's online or offline), no doubt. However, my second preference behind that is for sure watching an event without knowing the results yet, if I accidentally click on some website and see the result already my first reaction is "fuck!", especially if it's something I really wanted to watch. Then again, of course everyone enjoys sports in their own way, none of which is better or worse than the other
  9. Yeah, but if you're late for some reason and want to watch, say, the Olympic final of the men's volleyball....it doesn't bother you at all to know beforehand that it was a 3-set match (and thus you can stop watching after 1 set, because you know who won)? I think you're the opposite of me, I never understand how people can still enjoy sports (a full match/race at least) when already knowing what's going to happen
  10. Much as I would like to see otherwise, because it'd be truly awesome, in cycling there's just really not even a small chance I'm afraid (even with a miracle, Rwanda has kind of stopped developing entirely sadly) In terms of African medals in (road) cycling (not first ever medals for a country) Eritrea, Mauritius and with a miracle South Africa or Ethiopia are the only ones with even a remote chance. Edit: it may have sounded too much like 'you are wrong', that's not how I meant it, to be clear, this is of course also just my view
  11. Churandy Martina has been selected as reserve for the Dutch 4x100m team Still looking for a full list of athletes. It's somewhere, but annoyingly enough they just presented them with like 6 pics of a few athletes each instead of simply a list Edit: https://www.atletiek.nl/artikelen/nederlandse-olympische-atletiekploeg-telt-47-atleten/ Although they forgot to put Lisanne de Witte in the list, it seems.
  12. Honestly I never really care about the things like the colours and fonts, as long as they are practical and more or less in the same way as we're used from the sports. Like, in biathlon there's always this tendency during the Olympics to have entirely different graphics for the shooting for example, compared to the World Cups and such, which makes the shooting much harder to follow. Just keep what works and maybe change a few colours to make it consistent, but don't go with an entirely different layout than in the regular seasons..
  13. Reading some nonsense in an HBO press release about how one will never have to miss anything, thanks to their 'medal alerts' and 'key moments'.....which very much sound like super spoilery features
  14. Honestly, especially if the Olympics were in the same continent I live and train in, I highly doubt I'd skip the chance to be the flag bearer if asked, damn
  15. I won't be watching anyone else having fun, since I won't leave the house
  16. To be fair, in Beijing it was a matter of extreme weather and real force majeure, the Seine problem has been known for a long, long time now..
  17. Yeah, day -2 neither for me. That's the first day of my vacation and I'm kind of planning a 200km bike ride I've been working towards, so not expecting to be back for the first few football group matches. But also, it's Olympic football, I can't really be bothered to care about that
  18. Staying up all night to watch a couple of guys and gals wait in the water for ages and every now and then maybe pick up a wave, do a thingy and get back to waiting? Nah, I'll choose actual sleep
  19. I would, but there's nothing left for me to watch by then anymore. It might get to midnight, but if I'm caught up at least on all of the finals and so on, I'll go for the bit of sleep I can definitely use then
  20. 07.00 Wake up, have breakfast, perhaps check out the last things I hadn't yet from the day before, prepare my schedules for the day, make sure phone and tablet are charged, and so on 08.00/08.30 Turn on the TV and the streams on the devices and start watching the Olympic day 23.00 Turn everything off and go to bed
  21. At least good that his heart problems were spotted in time...
