  1. It's not a surprise, but also not expected, no norwegian was a top 3 favorite and Kalla was the favorite in women's skiathlon. In terms of gold = a bit less expected, in terms of total medals = more than expected. 3 medals in men's skiathlon = 2 more than expected and certainly gold wasn't expected, so i would say they are 2-3 medals better than expected at this moment.
  2. The wind points don't always show the true conditions, that is certainly true. If you have headwind very early it's much worse than having headwind further down the hill, but you get the same points. We have to say that Hula probably had the best conditions (gate + wind) in the first round, so i am not really sure about him being treated unfairly, i think he had every chance to medal and for me Wellinger deserved the gold, because he also won the qualification, the trial round for qualification and two trainings, but the norwegians certainly got lucky today. I agree that they should have postponed this competition or better not even have started it that late. It was a saturday after all, so did they really think that far more european people would watch it at 1:30 pm instead of 10 am for example? The good thing about the winter olympics is that you can follow all decisions live (unlike the summer olympics), so i don't understand the schedule at all ... Tonight they had snowboarding at 2 am european time, then downhill was planned at 3 am and then ... nothing until 8 am (cross-country), then speed skating and then again ... nothing until 11:45 or so (luge). Why can't they just start every medal decision at 2 pm local time (6 am european time) and end it at 7 or 8 pm local time at the latest? There are so few medal decisions every day that it would be no problem to squeeze the schedule together a bit and still allow the spectators to watch everything live.
  3. Sorry, i don't have dutch TV, you should upload it to Youtube, for the world to see this historic moment in sports history.
  4. What? Two medals in men's ski jumping = two more medals than expected, silver in women's biathlon = 3 more medals than expected. Of course many expected silver and bronze in women's cross-country (Kalla was always favorite for gold) and i expected for Kleveland, so you could say that it's a bit unexpected that they haven't gold by now, but no one could serious expect more than 4 medals by now (before men's skiathlon).
  5. Very sad result, but you have to pay huge respect to the norwegians for being so strong despite pretty much all of them having asthma. I am sad that an idol like Sundby missed out on gold again ... Very good result for the german athletes, much better than expected, of course this is absolutely not what i predicted (Cologna winning gold).
  6. Can't believe i missed the highlight of the games ... Did his coach show him the right way this time or did he get lost again (i am asking in the interest of Beckert's medal chances)?
  7. Wind points today: Wellinger (-10.5 & -17.8 = -28.3) Forfang (-12 & - 17.2 = -29.2) Johansson (-5 & -17.9 = -22.9) Stoch (-13.5 & -10.8 = -24.3) Hula (-14.4 & -18.2 = 32.6) Tande (-13.2 & -19.4 = -32.6) Kobayashi (-15.3 & -18.6 = -33.9) Eisenbichler (-14.8 & -17.1 = -31.9) Freitag (-13.4 & -12.2 = -25.6) Geiger (-9.4 & -15.8 = -25.2) Out of the top 10, 5 athletes had better wind conditions than Wellinger and 4 had worse wind conditions. Hula had the second best wind, together with Tande, but yeah Wellinger is the one who got lucky, although Hula had better conditions than him in both rounds ... Just as a reminder: Wellinger won by 8.4 points, so even if he would have jumped 109.5 m in the second round, he would have won today. Wind points at the 4 hills tournament, Freitag vs. Stoch: Oberstdorf: Stoch: 6.3 & 1.0 = 7.3 Freitag: 4.4 & 13.2 = 17.6 Garmisch-Partenkirchen: Stoch: 1.5 & 1.9 = 3.4 Freitag: 3.0 & 6.6 = 9.6 Innsbruck: Stoch: -3.4 (& -0.9) Freitag: -1.5 In total: Stoch: 7.3 Freitag: 25.7 Out of 5 rounds they competed against each other, Stoch had the better conditions 4 times. If i calculated correctly, the probability for that is 12.5%, but yeah Stoch wasn't lucky at all ... If we only look at the competitions as a whole, Stoch had the better conditions every time (3 out of 3).
  8. What? If Poland doesn't win a medal in the team competition, they should stop competing in ski jumping. Stoch could probably jump backwards and they would still win a team medal, given how horrible Slovenia, Japan and especially Austria are. Before the start of the olympics i was sure that Poland would win gold, but now Norway and Germany seem better than before, so maybe this could be a threeway battle for gold, although it is more likely that Eisenbichler and/or Geiger completely mess up again.
  9. Yeah ... that's exactly what we need. Build a hangar for 1 billion dollars that can only be used for ski jumping and then after the olympics never use it again.
  10. On Day 1, the first 5 Gold Medals will be awarded to athletes from 5 different countries. [YES - 10] Canada will finish ahead of the USA in the medal table. [NO - 10] By total medals won, Norway & Germany will win more than Canada & the United States, who in turn will win more than Japan & South Korea. [YES - 10] Austria will finish ahead of Switzerland in the medal table. [YES - 10] We will have at least 5 Gold Medal winners being less than 18 years young on that given day. [NO - 10] At least 3 Torino 2006 medalists will win a Medal in PyeongChang. [YES - 10] At least 3 nations will win 10 or more gold medals. [NO - 10] Ice hockey: The Women's Unified Korean Team will win a match. [NO - 10] Nordic combined: Germany will sweep (win Gold, Silver and Bronze) at least one of the individual events. [NO - 10] Ski jumping: Poland will win at least one gold medal. [YES - 10] Shorttrack: South Korea will win all 8 Gold Medals. [NO - 10]
  11. Don't know? I think it's pretty obvious that the germans have superior material, Ludwig and Langenhan without this material proabably wouldn't even qualify for the spanish luge team, given how talentless they are.
  12. I used google translator dutch <-> german and it told me that knegt means "nicken", which is german for nodding. But in german "knecht" means servant.
  13. So are we "allowed" to talk about our predictions now? I bet 10 points in 20 cases and 1 point in all other cases. Most of the 10 point bets were pretty obvious (no nation will win 2 golds on day 1 for example), but the last 3 or 4 were very difficult, for example whether Czech Republic will win at least 1 gold in snowboarding or whether the athlete leading men's skiathlon at half-point will eventually win it.
  14. Thanks! Interesting to know that Knegt apparently means "to nod" in english ...
  15. He better get his shit together, i think i predicted someone named Fischnaller winning bronze here, either it was him or his twin brother David.
  16. No, very bad, i bet 10 points that South Korea won't sweep the golds here. So it was 1) Lim, 2) Some dutch athlete (What's his name please?), 3) Elistratov (Is he from Russia or did South Korea buy him?)?
  17. Ok, sorry, so "I jk" means i joke or i am joking? Edit: But good to know that you agree that Kuzmina winning a medal would have been disgusting. #karma
  18. Very good (for Pechstein) or sad (for Achter...), depends on who's side you are on, but i guess given all of them are dutch, they will probably still find a way to medal.
  19. Congrats! I really like how positive you are, it was so close to a medal, but i understand it, given her season so far + the fact that Fourcade will probably win 15-20 golds here.
  20. Do you know whether she will also compete at the 5000 m? I hope not, otherwise Pechstein won't really have a chance to medal ...
