JoshMartini007 got a reaction from Vic Liu in Men's Water Polo Qualification to Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games
Yeah, China is pretty much sending all of their athletes overseas and having them quarantined so they can still participate in qualifiers and the Olympics. By the end of the month/March all their athletes should be fine to compete anywhere.

Looks like Brazil will need to defeat Argentina if it wants to defend its Olympic crown.

Assuming no surprises, this will be South Korea's first appearance since 2008.

Yeah, I imagine they'll make an exception. Just like they did with Oceania athletes after the Oceania Championships were cancelled.

JoshMartini007 got a reaction from Laraja in Swimming Qualification to Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games
Last month, SwimSwam put together a list of Olympic trials that will be held. Note that this may not be the only way an athlete from those nations can qualify, some selection policies allow for athletes which performed well at certain other meets (like the World Championships) to be selected, but the conclusion of these events should give us most of the swimming team. Here is the calendar of events (yes Netherlands has two events).
Ukraine - 10-13 March
Italy - 17-21 March
Lithuania - 19-21 March
Hungary - 24-28 March
Denmark - 28 March - 1 April
New Zealand - 31 March - 4 April

France - 14-19 April
Great Britain - 14-19 April

I just noticed the Oceania wrestling championship was cancelled. This means they won't be eligible to compete at the African/Oceania qualification event (unless they change the rules)

Not yet, there's a chance that two other Pacific nations (besides Cook Islands) may compete elsewhere to gain world ranking points.
Most likely yes, but it won't be confirmed until June.

For a flagship event eights is doing horrible. I mean look at the boat list at the 2019 World Championships. I can't name an Olympic event with such low participation at the World Championship level. Especially among the men. This was also a good year, it's not too uncommon to see single digit participation.
Again I know the history of the event, but if cuts are going to be made it's not exactly hard to see why this would be an attractive option.

Quite unlikely, Canada is at another level relative to the rest of the continent. Though I wouldn't say it's impossible. A lucky goal + defense could stifle Canada.

I don't think the United States cares if they play Canada or not. Of course, they would prefer to play Mexico, but Canada poses no danger to them...

Artistic swimming may be a target, at the very least the team event while mixed duet may replace women's duet.
Though they may be using those quotas to counterbalance Greco-Roman wrestling.

JoshMartini007 got a reaction from Olympian1010 in Sport Events Cancelled due to Coronavirus Outbreak
Sepsis isn't that hard to get, especially if you aren't getting treatment or are in a place with poor healthcare.
Just to be clear, don't go around kissing infectious people, but you shouldn't be any more concerned about this than the various other medium risk diseases in our world (basically the media is making this a bigger issue than it should be)

JoshMartini007 got a reaction from hckošice in Table Tennis ITTF World Tour 2020
I think so, looking at this document
"Winner and runner-up are directly qualified for Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, provided all other eligibility requirements for the available quota are met according to the Qualification system."
I guess we'll know for sure if an "Olympic qualification" bracket is made because I suspect one (or both) finalist will be from nations already qualified.

Still not fair, all teams should have a chance to qualify directly. Have the top 3-5 advance directly to the hex while the other teams fight for the remaining spots.

JoshMartini007 got a reaction from heywoodu in Equestrian Qualification to Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games
Yeah, I don't think anything will be done here. The events included international athletes so it's hard to argue the events shouldn't count.
Personally I dislike world rankings deciding who qualifies as a lot of them don't really determine who is the best, just who competes the most. With that said, I have no problem with the way those athletes qualified as everyone knew the rules long before Olympic qualification began.

JoshMartini007 got a reaction from Olympian1010 in Proposals for Continental Olympic Qualifications
Ignoring the whole "convincing the top leagues to release their players" I feel cricket has a better chance at being a permanent member on the Olympic program than Baseball/Softball. The sport actually has a base in Africa (South Africa/Zimbabwe) and it does a better job at adding more diversity. Baseball may add Venezuela/Panama/Nicaragua as nations which rarely compete in team sports, but cricket also has those options (Jamaica/Barbados/T&T/Guyana competing separately) and a more diverse selection in Asia (Afghanistan/Bangladesh/Sri Lanka) rather than the usual Japan/South Korea

Looking at the current entry list for the Miami World Cup which will double as the North America & Caribbean qualifier.
Excluding the Laser/Laser Radial not too many eligible nations are competing in multiple events outside of .
is competing in the men's RS:X while is competing in the men's Finn (he has a good chance at winning the quota).
Currently are eligible in both Laser events while are eligible in the men's laser and are eligible in the women's laser radial.
Additionally, is the only eligible nation to compete in the women's 470 so it may obtain a free quota.

At this point, can they even call it a fleet race? It's essentially a match race...
