  1. At least we snuck in to be eligible to compete in the mixed relay, that second women's quota came in at the last minute...
  2. Now the live results site is showing Canada won against the Netherlands, I'm confused...
  3. Quite a shame for Canada. I really hope karate returns to the Olympics, but that likely won't happen until the IOC loosens the tight control of athlete quotas (or if one of the 28 sports is removed)
  4. takes the last quota took the European quota (unless FINA wants to change the rules and reallocate the quota to the final qualifier in which case both are still qualified)
  5. Not sure what to think of Canada's chances in the round robin. We do like to finish fourth, but this is the last sport where we aren't guaranteed to qualify someone (we are guaranteed to qualify someone in golf, judo, tennis and triathlon via rankings) so it would be wonderful if one of them manages it.
  6. Wait, you can qualify 4 athletes even if one of them is via the continental quota? I thought if you need continental quotas the max you can get was three. That's good for Canada...
  7. Okay, I know a lot of people here don't like Agenda-2020, but it didn't cause COVID
  8. No, there's only four tripartite quotas (2 men and 2 women) across the eight events. They also need to be ranked in the top 50 in order to be eligible to compete. However, only 10 athletes will compete in each event.
  9. This means wins the continental quota
  10. I don't think appearing in the 2021 World was a requirement so I think Australia should get the 2019 Worlds quota...
  11. I wouldn't mind something similar to the Madison race in cycling where the team can split how much of the race each member completes (maybe have a minimum to ensure everyone competes)
  12. Is there any difference in a team event or will they just take the time of the 4th fastest person (or combined the time of the four people). Like at least with relays there is a baton pass.
  13. I think the host/tripartite reallocation will happen after world cup quotas, though I'm not 100% sure...
  14. I think that's incorrect the three criteria should add up to 14. It should be 7 for both genders. For men 5 qualified at the world champs plus continental quotas for Africa and Pan America while for women 6 qualified at the world champs plus a continental quota for Africa. (Oceania loses its quota in both genders due to the World Cup rankings)
  15. Karate really should have been a 16 person tournament. I know the IOC wants to keep quotas tight, but it just doesn't feel like the tournament will do the sport justice.
  16. Yeah they could just substitute the Netherlands for the United States and re-run the Americas qualifier. Maybe get Panama waiting in the wings just in case someone gets cold feet.
  17. Right now Judo Canada's stance is that they won't tell any one to change unless it's for health reasons.
  18. Yeah, sucks that our two best judoka (ever?) are in the same weight class.
  19. I know, like I can understand why they wouldn't let the cyclists compete in the road race while all other time trial racers must do so, but there's no reason as to why they can't compete compete in the individual events in judo. They did so in 2016 and it's not like it will "ruin" the bracket like it will in taekwondo and wrestling.
  20. I'm just going with what's listed on the IJF website.
  21. There's always a chance that one of them has a bad day, look at what happened to China at the 2019 Worlds and with only four athletes competing any mistake will have a larger effect. I think it comes down to the big nations just not holding the apparatus events in high regard. They see it as a way to inflate their medal count, not something they are trying to actively get.
  22. Currently Peter Zilka has a continental quota in -90kg. Remember 100+ nations will qualify thanks to continental quotas (plus 20 more thanks to tripartite).
  23. Off the top of my head Slovakia can get 2 more in artistic swimming, 1 in golf, 1 in judo and maybe 1 in tennis. Plus maybe some people in swimming
  24. Apparently Jordan Hart is ineligible in women's singles according to the document.
  25. Badminton, shooting and weightlifting could also seamlessly add athletes though I don't think they have reached the minimum requirements. Currently only marathon runner Tachlowini Gabriyesos has reached the qualification standard.
