  1. Yeah, fans can be the worst sometimes and with social media all that hate comes right on your doorstep.
  2. I remember it was done by Om Yun-chol in 2012 where he won gold. He was already the favourite to medal/win back then so I imagine maybe it was done as an intimidation tactic?
  3. Outside of throwing more money at the problem I don't think OTP has the capabilities of fixing the problem. The way the organization is ran is that they incentivize easier to win medals. At best, they can mandate that funding must be equally spent on both genders.
  4. They are seeded based on their combined ranking. Both play singles with Sakkari never playing doubles in one of the four majors. Canada has more experience in doubles so the upset potential is there, but Greece could very well win based on their individual strength.
  5. Another issue is that Canada still heavily relies on universities to give their athletes competitive practice. Men tend to peak later in life and unless they are trying to get a masters/PhD degree they are no longer part of that system.
  6. While I do agree that taekwondo is one of the more diverse sports, they also increase it by making it very hard for more than 2 athletes per gender to qualify.
  7. After a big day yesterday, Day 5 looks to be a lot quieter. Our best chance likely comes in rowing (women's double sculls). Additionally, swimming has two more medal chances (women's 200m freestyle & women's 200m individual medley).
  8. Depending on how the IOC handles the extra quotas I imagine will see it in 2028. 2032 might have a chance with Australia unless they want to go with cricket (or netball, but there's no men's equivalent).
  9. Surfing is definitely a type of sport to watch through highlights than watching it live.
  10. Really happy for Duffy, it has been a long time coming
  11. We did go 2-0 against France in the individual matches so the chance is certainly there.
  12. Surfing is definitely "wait for the highlights" type of sport since for most of the time it's them waiting for a good wave.
  13. Skateboarding can stay, but it does need to revamp its format as I mentioned before. I'm more upset with how the IOC tricked World Skate into submitting skateboarding. They basically strongly hinted that if they took over as the international federation for skateboarding then they may also accept speed roller skating as well and then they went nope and only accepted skateboarding. Of course, that's not skateboarding's fault...
  14. Two medals in day 3 along with our first gold. Day 4 may also be another good looking day for us with medal chances in baseball/softball (women's softball), diving (women's synchronized 10m platform), judo (men's -81kg, women's -63kg), swimming (women's 100m backstroke) and weightlifting (women's -64kg).
  15. Yeah, China had a slim chance at winning the most gold medals over the United States, but losing those three golds will make it even harder. Lucky for them, the United States hasn't had the greatest start in the pool.
  16. Huge medal for the Philippines
  17. The format favours high risk since you can drop 3/7 scores which gives the impression that the event is of low quality. I found the trick portion to be a bit boring and I feel it devalued the run portion which I feel should be given greater preference. I would prefer something like three runs and taking the combined score of the top 2.
  18. Potentially a big day for Canada tomorrow/tonight, here's a list of our medal chances Diving - Men's synchronized 10m platform Judo - Women's -57kg Judo - Men's -73kg Swimming - Women's 100m butterfly Swimming - Women's 400m freestyle 2 medals would be an average night, but I'm hoping for at least three.
  19. It was already clear at the last World Cup that the rest of the world has caught up to the United States (ie no flukes required to win).
  20. Big shock for Brazil in heat 1
  21. While I'm hopeful against Japan, I feel that while their pitching might not be as strong as the United States, their batters certainly are. If we do win it'll be a high scoring match.
  22. Great pitching is what is keeping them alive, but they are pretty much one inning away from an upset loss.
  23. Didn't expect a medal on the first day. Rowing went well, but the loss of our men's volleyball team stung a bit, even though Italy is better ranking wise we were up 2-0 and lost 3-2 Hoping for a couple of medals tomorrow.
  24. I'm hoping for 5-6 medals in swimming so 7 isn't totally out of the realm of possibility. I also wouldn't put the mixed relay completely out of the possibility, though we are definitely not a favourite.
  25. Yeah doping bans and a qualification format that prevents a nation from competing in every event allowed her to move up the rankings. In her defense she's a pretty good weightlifter too.
