  1. Canada somewhat miraculously made the quarterfinals in the men's rugby 7s tournament, thanks to Ireland accidentally putting the ball in touch too early. Canada will face New Zealand in the quarterfinals.
  2. I believe Canada made the quarterfinals by 2 points over Ireland.
  3. 28 is pretty old for a swimmer on the women's side. Canada could have a shot in the medley relay if we discover a good breastroker in the next couple days :P
  4. They did win what is probably the most important event to them (the men's 4x100m free) in a minor upset, so this isn't a disastrous meet for them or anything.
  5. Summer gold. still has the honour of being the smallest country ever to win gold.
  6. I believe they are ahead of Canada, so they should be safe.
  7. Real shame Masse will likely never win an Olympic gold after her back-to-back world titles
  8. Great to see Duffy win, both because she's been one of the most consistently great triathlete in the world and because of the historic nature of her gold medal.
  9. Link to the video (sadly without sound): https://streamable.com/rm8mwo
  10. I mean, you could hold surfing in a wave pool, which produces rideable waves at predictable times (the format of surfing contests is completely different in a wave pool). The problem is that you lose a lot of the skills important skills of the sport when you take the sport out of the ocean. I duno, I think surfing is fine as is. Not every sport has to be super exciting to watch live. There are plenty of other Olympic sports that have long periods where nothing exciting happens anyway.
  11. Based on what I remember the qualification document saying the teams in bold will qualify Mladenovic / Mahut (8) Sakkari / Tsitsipas (23) Mattek-Sands / Ram (23) Pavlyuchenkova / Rublev (25) Dabrowski / Auger-Aliassime (29) Jurak / Dodig (31) Stefani / Melo (41) Podoroska / Zeballos (42) Stojanovic / Djokovic (43) Shibahara / McLachlan (48) Siegemund / Krawietz (49) Melichar / Krajicek (54) Sabalenka / Ivashka (69) Ferro / Herbert (70) Watson / Salisbury (77) Vesmoma / Karatsev (79) Giorgi / Sonego (84) Osorio Serrano / Farah (86) Friedsam / Puetz (100) Errani / Fognini (135) Sinakova / Machac (148) Pigossi / Demoliner (241) Mirza / Nagal (297) Shvedova / Golubev (489) Chan / Lu (568)
  12. Men's foil gold for O.o Only the second Olympic gold ever for Hong Kong.
  13. Bellio sets the inaugural women's 1500m free Olympic record in 16:24.37.
  14. Fair play to , that was a nice submission. But that really sucked.
  15. drove the judoka's head on the mat and apparently that means is disqualified for a neck roll. World feed commentators thought it was a bad decision. I guess when you live by the DQ you die by the DQ. Very lame way to end a final, either way.
  16. Disqualified, second gold for (despite their best judoka losing in the first round)
  17. Canada finishing 4th is just such a proud tradition, it's kind of sad that judo doesn't respect that. (It was meant as a joke)
  18. Unfortunately Klimkait had to win the bronze since there is no 4th place in Judo, so that was the closest equivalent.
  19. Meh, I feel like when you have the world number 1 and 2 in an event coming away with the bronze is sort of a failure. TBH the selection policy from Judo Canada was insane and there are some people there who need to answer for it. I'm not really quibbling who they picked, but doing it based on the world championships a month and a half before the Olympics was absolutely stupid.
  20. Klimkait just gave away the match by doing too many false attacks. Unfortunate but the right decision.
  21. The DQ was completely legit. Klimkait basically just gave it away. This really sucks, but the ref did the right thing.
  22. Klimkait lost the semi-finals due to accumulating three shidos.
  23. Great fight between and . Very nice to see Tom Daley finally win an Olympic gold medal, it is very well deserved.
  24. This used to be the case, and is still the rule in taekwondo and wrestling, but that rule isn't used in judo anymore.
