  1. Plurality, not majority (27 our of 90 seats). Neither the Unionist nor the Republican side have a majority because the Alliance, which is neutral on the status of NI, did so well (17 seats, third largest party).
  2. Kind of topic, but why did this article spell his name wrong? It's Mélenchon, or Melenchon without the accent.
  3. FWIW Christa Deguchi confirmed in an interview w/ Radio-Canada that she’s committed through Paris 2024 at least. She mentions that she took a few months off training after failing to qualify for the Olympics but that her love for the sport has come back.
  4. It’s already no longer a core sport as things stand so… one could make a decent argument that as it stands it has already been removed from the Olympic program post Paris 2024.
  5. I wonder why that TV channel is posting fake news then (there is even a real example of Biden forgetting something important in the same event, just not the one they chose to show).
  6. The IOC are the ones forcing Modern Pentathlon to drop riding so…
  7. Why are you posting a clip from 2021 where Biden is talking about Tyree Brown's mom?
  8. Invite us to compete in Eurovision proper you cowards!
  9. The French centrist parties better get their shit together.
  10. Marine got the best ever score for her party, ~42%. But as everyone knew would happen Macron was re-elected.
  11. I'm never a fan of a round robin when only one competitor advances. I thought after wrestling moved away from that format we'd see the end of it, but now badminton (at the Olympics) and karate have adopted it. Bleh.
  12. There was also a cap in 2020, but it was 28 swimmers per gender.
  13. Good news everybody! Volleyball is now using three pools of four teams, top two plus two best third places qualify for the quarterfinals. This is the most urban, youthful and gender equal format.
  14. They managed to make the 3x3 qualification system even worse. Unbelievable.
  15. What is and isn’t considered political is, itself, a political question. There really isn’t such a thing as a “neutral” stand, and we all have our blind spots wrt how other people can view things very differently in good faith (for example I recoil pretty strongly to the notion that anything LGBT rights related is “political” in nature, but it’s also something that affects me fairly personally so of course I wouldn’t see it that way).
  16. Karate, the only combat sport where you can win by being knocked out xD I actually liked the kata event, but kumite was imo the worst event in the Tokyo Olympics.
  17. is my backup team so I would find this draw problematic :P I'm just excited that Canada will even be in the draw tbh, part of me would be really excited if Canada's group ended up being described as the "group of death". Unlikely, but it would be fun. Actually any group will be fun. It's the fucking world cup!
  18. It’s indeed really going to bother the French public that they posted images with English text on them.
  19. Not as amusing as Canada being the only nation to win men’s and women’s Olympic gold in football (just, please, don’t look too deeply into how we won gold in men’s football)
  20. It's over. I can't even compute this. My parents weren't even married yet the only time Canada had qualified for the World Cup. Every qualification cycle was just more disappointing than the last growing up. But now is going to the world cup, almost certainly as the top team in CONCACAF. I can't believe it.
  21. 3-0 with eight minutes left to go. I think it might actually happen.
  22. obviously provoked the invasion by joining NATO rather than by letting itself be ruled by the Kremlin.
  23. The Power of the Dog is a beautiful movie and I really appreciate how well it's made and how good all the performances are. Just found it dreadfully boring. I have only seen six of the best picture nominees (CODA, Don't Look Up, Dune, Drive my Car, Power of the Dog and West Side Story). Would personally give it to Drive my Car, but it's quite clearly going to be either CODA or The Power of the Dog. CODA is definitively the movie I enjoyed the most between those two. Dune deserves to clean up in the technical awards.
  24. So... looks like we are about to qualify for Qatar?
  25. I'm really curious to see how gives this away. It's impossible that we qualify, just impossible to believe, but it's hard to see how we lose to at home after being up by two. As the CBS commentator says "only a catastrophe will prevent Canada from going to Qatar", and I am very curious to see what the catastrophe will be.
