  1. I believe the strategy all along was to use Tokyo 2020 to aggressively promote Peacock. Obviously those plans were delayed somewhat by COVID.
  2. Hopefully NBC Sports will have a quad view player this time (one can dream).
  3. Welp, time to be a cal e subscriber for exactly one month *sigh* I mostly used CBC for 2016 (they had a better video player than NBC) but the VPN can only support so many video feeds.
  4. Did they come up with a better tie-breaker than “lol lets pick a gender and weight class at random”?
  5. Very little appears to be on Peacock. I guess a cable subscription will be required to watch on NBCOlympics?
  6. I cannot forgive how bad the time keeping rules are in football and (especially) in rugby. Total garbage. Steep’s Olympic mode remains by far the best Olympic game ever made :P
  7. It’s definitively something you can leave on the background and pay attention to when the waves pick up. There can be pretty long periods of relative inactivity. This is likely to be the case fairly often in Tokyo since the waves aren’t expected to be particularely good. But it’s definitively something that can be enjoyed live.
  8. I’m pretty sure the lack of crowd will be acutely felt in judo…
  9. Really seems that the US is the only country that could have held the Olympics safely this summer. Going to be very weird to go from full crowds at the US Olympic trials to nobody at all in Tokyo. (I know the Euros have full crowds but I still question the wisdom of that)
  10. I mean tbh this always seemed like a pretty obvious thing to do assuming it’s allowed by the ICF / IOC.
  11. I wish these English thieves a very happy losing to Italy in the final.
  12. Great run by Roger, making the QF at 39 is an amazing accomplishment. He’s just adding to his legend.
  13. There is really no more discretion in tennis qualification anymore.
  14. Yes. 146 is way too high for mixed doubles though. The highest combined ranking to ever qualify for a non-host or continental spot was 58.
  15. People still test positive for meldonium? What year is this?
  16. Most unexpected team qualifier: men’s field hockey Most unexpected individual qualifier: probably Daniel Gaysinsky in karate. Team that failed to qualify that hurts the most: men’s baseball from a medal perspective, men’s basketball from an importance perspective. The women’s 3x3 team not even having a chance to qualify was a bitter pill, too. Athlete that failed to qualify that hurts the most: Haya Jumaa in karate since she is probably the highest ranked Canadian athlete in any sport to fail to qualify (not counting internal selection), and she will likely never get another chance. The Christa Deguchi / Jessica Klimkait internal selection battle in judo was also really painful.
  17. I am really interested in learning what happened behind the scenes. I really hope LVL’s training wasn’t too derailed by all this nonsense, she really deserves to have this shot.
  18. https://olympic.ca/2021/07/07/team-canada-names-16-paddlers-for-canoe-kayak-sprint-for-tokyo-2020/
  19. I am worried that she wasn’t on the ICF’s list today though.
  20. Personne ne veut vendre la mèche, mais tout indique que c’est le scénario qui sera présenté à la presse mercredi. À tout le moins, les gens sondés dans le milieu lundi étaient tous très optimistes pour [elle]. My quick and dirty translation: Nobody wants to talk about it on the record, but everything indicates that this scenario [LVL competing in C-1 and C2] will be announced to the press on Wednesday. In any case, insiders we spoke to on Monday appeared to be optimistic [for LVL’s chances].
  21. I wonder, would she have been banned from practicing relay handoffs with the team during her suspension?
  22. So Bujold got an extra quota, same as the EOR athletes.
  23. Especially since it’s probably the last chance for him (or anyone else) to participate. (and even if it isn’t his last chance qualifying in 2024 will be a lot harder)
