  1. Qualification update: are guaranteed at least one quota in the women’s 5000m. First four nations to qualify. Edit: is also now guaranteed at least a host spot in the women's 5000m (they are currently in a qualifying position in the time ranking, assuming the current points ranking holds)
  2. https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/iihf-hopeful-introduce-3-3-olympic-hockey/ Tardif contradicted himself and now says the decision on China's participation in the men's tournament hasn't been made yet. There is a pun to be made here ("tardif" means late). Also the IIHF is in discussion with the IOC about adding 3-3 hockey to the Olympics in some form.
  3. Just give this entire C-tier KHL team Chinese citizenship and end this miserable saga already.
  4. Canada top of CONCACAF like we all expected.
  5. And to make things even worse time qualification in the 3000, 5000 and 10000 aren’t fair either because the B group has four skaters per race while the A group has two skaters per race.
  6. I have two main problems with the qualification system - the max number of skaters per NOC should have stayed at 10 (this has a very small effect overall but the new rule really hurts ) and the reallocations should be given in order, there shouldn’t be a priority for unqualified countries. I don’t really mind making third skaters per NOC ineligible from qualifying by time, even though that’s really going to hurt Canada. That’s not where the really insane qualification results are coming from. Most of the other issues currently are related to the inherent unfairness of the A and B races in the World Cup.
  7. I agree, I think is favored to win group B (though that’s going to be very competitive). Winning group B would presumably mean playing in the QF. Very difficult match but not impossible.
  8. Ya, it causes my script to calculate who is in a qualifying position to get way too complicated D:
  9. By my calculations some of the reserve lists are really funky. Like the first reserve in the men's 500m (since athletes go to the front of the reserve list if they are from an NOC without a qualified skater) is Christian Oberbichler, who ranks 48th(!) on the time ranking. Meanwhile Liu An is the fifth reserve despite being 20th on the time ranking (countries can't qualify a third skater from the time list, but they can get a spot on the reserve list, assuming they would have obtained a third spot if not for this rule - they can't go on the reserve list if they would otherwise only be a reserve. Some of those qualification rules are really weird). On the other extreme we currently have two of the three reserves getting a re-allocation spot in the women's 1500m (there are supposed to be eight reserves in individual events but literally only three skaters are eligible).
  10. Only 13 NOCs qualified in total, same as 2018 (if you count South Korea and the united Korean team as one NOC). qualify in both men's and women's. Very nice to see make it's debut in both men's and women's ice hockey at the same time. First time this has happened outside of hosts and ROC/OAR, which doesn't really count.
  11. So there will be direct qualification matches between and and between and tomorrow. Despite losing both their games has looked quite good.
  12. The mass start could be a lot less bad if they just removed the stupid point system.
  13. with a big 1-0 win over and now group D is truly a mess. Scenarios for tomorrow (I think this is accurate): qualifies if they win or go to overtime against qualifies if they win in regulation and fails to beat in regulation qualifies if they beat by at least 5 goals qualifies if none of the above happens
  14. Halfway through the CONCACAF final round (after every team has played every other team once) leads ahead of and . is the only undefeated team, while is the only winless team.
  15. van der Poel picking up right where he left off with a dominant victory in the 5000m. Dutch surnames finishing 1-2-3-4-5 with Bloemen, Roest, Bergsma and Swings.
  16. Ya, isn’t even the second best ranked team in the group and have never qualified for the main world championship. Germany did not look good.
  17. is in real danger or missing out on the women's hockey tournament for the first time, and it wouldn't even be that much of an upset. What a fall for that program.
  18. Talk about a terrible way to end your season
  19. can't even beat in men's rugby anymore. https://www.cbc.ca/sports/rugby/international-rugby-test-canada-portugal-recap-nov-6-1.6240015
  20. http://ow.ly/iJ4i30rZhWq Sounds like there is real concern internally that Modern Pentathlon will be removed from the Olympic program from 2028 onwards by the end of this year.
