  1. On the second day of the Diving World Cup, just one medal event, the 3m Synchro Springboard. Again gold for the Chinese, but it was closely contested as the British pair actually came first in the (useless) prelim round. Men 3m Synchro Springboard: Gold: CAO Yuan/XIE Siyi Silver: LAUGHER Jack/MEARS Chris Bronze: OCAMPO MARROQUIN Jahir/PACHECO MARRUFO Rommel Other 2019 WDS qualifiers: The other event contested was Women's 10m prelims, which had an awful level as, with the exception of the top 6 qualifiers) went for regular to plain bad in their executions. So as long as this continues, it will be hard to beat the Chinese in this event.
  2. Mexico Final Squad Goalkeepers: José de Jesús Corona (Cruz Azul), Alfredo Talavera (Toluca), Guillermo Ochoa (Standar Liege/BEL) Defenders: Hugo Ayala (Tigres UANL), Carlos Salcedo (Eintracht Frankfurt/GER), Diego Reyes (FC Porto/POR), Miguel Layún (Sevilla/ESP), Héctor Moreno (Real Sociedad/ESP), Édson Álvarez (América), Jesús Gallardo (Monterrey) Midfielders: Rafael Márquez (Atlas), Jonathan Dos Santos (LA Galaxy/USA), Marco Fabián (Eintracht Frankfurt/GER), Héctor Herrera (FC Porto/POR), Andrés Guardado (Real Betis/ESP), Javier Aquino (Tigres UANL) Forwards: Raúl Jiménez (Benfica/POR), Giovani Dos Santos (LA Galaxy/USA), Carlos Vela (Los Angeles FC/USA), Javier Hernández (West Ham United/ENG), Jesús Manuel Corona (FC Porto/POR), Oribe Peralta (América), Hirving Lozano (PSV Eindhoven/NED)
  3. Today marked the start of this bi-annual event, which in this ocassion will also serve to qualify the top 8 divers in individual events and the top 6 pairs in synchro (including mixed events) receiving a direct invitation to compete at next year's World Diving Series. Startlists - Detailed Results No big surprises on the first day, as usual China took both golds in two non Olympic Events: Mixed 10m Synchro Platform: Gold: SI Yajie/LIAN Junjie Silver: McKAY Caeli/RIENDEAU Vincent Bronze: BELOVA Valeriia/NAZIN Sergey Also qualified to 2019 WDS: Team Event: Gold: CHEN Yiwen/QIU Bo Silver: LYSKUN Sofiia/KOLODIY Oleg Bronze: PALMER Krysta/DINSMORE David
  4. In principle this is true; however in some ocassions, injuries or lack of funds prevent some competitors from a determined event to actually participate; so in order to avoid other NOC's and sportspeople being affected by the event being canceled just a mere days before it takes place, the technical commission allows the event to still be held as official.
  5. Probably it happens something similar to the Central American and Caribbean Games in which, if between the date limit for entries and the technical meeting of the sport/discipline in question, the number of countries/competitors drops under 5, it can still be hosted provided there are 4 nations/competitors.
  6. Both Mexican players in men's doubles won their first round matches Best of luck for both of them and their partners, especially for Santiago Gonzalez who last year made it to the final.
  7. Sure she's still a medal chance, but combat sports are often too dramatic, as a little mistake could cost her a medal in a knock-out draw.
  8. Yes it was silver in women's pairs for Aruba.. As for the chance in sailing, I doubt it, as their best representative is not present.
  9. Indeed, the worst I've ever visited,
  10. Well their only other chance will be in bowling women's singles
  11. Well, the only "problem" I see in Argentinian sports is that the focus seems to be in the team sports, neglecting to some extent funding individual disciplines... however, everything can happen any given day, so I can't count Argentina out of the fight yet
  12. Agree... this should be an argentinian sweep of the golds, as only Uruguay has the level to spoil this.
  13. I think this will be a Colombia v. Brazil for first place, with the former having a slight advantage as they seem to be sending their best. Argentina could join the battle, but unlike the two other, I'm sensing they can't afford to lose many gold opportunities or else they will be relegated to third. In another level, Venezuela should be safe in 4th place, followed by Ecuador, Chile and Peru. The hosts could finish 8th, thanks to racquetball alone, plus some minor chances in race walk and shooting.
  14. And the best result for Tamara Vega, placing 5th Along with Mayan Oliver (who qualified for 3 world cup finals this season) I think they are our safest bets for a spot in Tokyo. Sadly to see, the level of our male pentathletes has decreased greatly, after winning our first Olympic medal in Rio Can't wait to see if Hernandez returns next year as he promised.
  15. I didn't knew about the Nationals and funding factors... still, hard to miss other opportunities to in a multi-sport event but again, every federation and NOC have their priorities.
  16. I was indeed surprised that Canadian federation didn't send their best athletes to this championships... guess after Toronto 2015, they just started treating Pan Ams below the Commonwealth Games
  17. Glad one of Independiente's players made it to the final squad. I'm guessing the press and the fans in particular are not happy about Higuain's spot.
  18. i had the opportunity to watch the apparatus finals and thought they looked pretty good, maybe to consider them solid podium contenders for Lima 2019. But I suspect the lack of participation also had to do with the scores. @thiago_simoes did you watch the performance of the Mexican groups? If so, I'd like to read your comments.

  21. Sorry, I've yet to find them.
