Great championship for Canada. Even on our men's side we are starting to get some depth, Ilya Kharun may be a person to watch.

Now if only we can get some progress in breaststroke. The women's side is getting better, but on the men's side it was backstroke specialist Javier Acevedo who did the breaststroke leg during the relay final.

Canada won 14 medals here...1 less than 2021, which is remarkable as Australia did not compete last year. Canada was also missing its best male and female athlete here.

    Interesting story about Kharun

He was initially going to represent at the 2022 Junior Pan Pacific Championships, but it turned out he wasn't a US citizen and was actually born in . Unsurprisingly, Canada was quick to scoop him up. Hopefully he stays with us.

the usual parallel farce...those on the blue course have all the advantage (slope and track design) on the last 5 gates...

it takes a miracle (or a big mistake by the opponent) to win on the red course

Yeah, she is only 21 so actually still very young. Hopefully finances won't force her to seek full-time job after the next Olympics. I imagine ski jumping is still dead last in winter sports funding in Canada. Loutitt also has a lot of promise but she's still recovering from off-season ankle injury IIRC.

It's not their best ever in women's ski jumping since Taylor Henrich had two podiums in 2015 before

    Tokyo Grand Slam

last Grand Slam tournament of the season, before the closing Masters in a couple of weeks.

and, as expected, it was a true Japanese fest, with the hosts leaving the guest Nations only 2 out of 14 Gold medals (a very few silver and bronze medals, too).

the 2 "heroes" of the weekend are  Jeon Seungbeom in the men's -60kg and  Gennaro Pirelli in the men's 100kg (this is the first ever gold medal for an Italian Judo player in a top-tier tournament held in Japan  ).

in all the remaining weight classes, the home boys and girls didn't make any prisoner and just destroyed the rivals who made the trip (we have to admit that many Countries decided top send only a few athletes to Japan if not skipping the event entirely).

It's surely a mistake. Just use the FINA rankings and/or the Nuoto Mondiale annual rankings which capture some fast swims from national meets that FINA misses.

    For  I would say:

    1. Swimming- Women’s 400IM (Summer McIntosh)
    2. Breaking- BBoys (Phil Wizard)
    3. Basketball- Women’s 3X3
    4. Boxing- Tammara Thibeault (75kg)
    5. Swimming- Women’s 400m Freestyle (Summer McIntosh)

Eleanor Harvey is another one of the gold medal contenders, but with Lee Kiefer and Alice Volpi contending, not too sure she’s as big of a favorite as them.

Edit: Men’s Decathlon is a special mention, with LePage just winning silver at this years World Athletics Championship, but then of course we also have the 2020 Olympic Champion Damian Warner. I’m just wondering since he was injured how will he recover from it, and so that is why I’m predicting Kevin Mayer to win gold. Plus, home crowd helps.
