what you mean ? I know we have no depth. I am not pretending anything, even if we manage to qualify a relay, I know that the girls will be lapped there for sure and finish very likely dead last.
that´s not the point.
But who know, maybe we have a girl or two somewhere who has a talent for this sport but has no chance or resources to even start to do it. if participation in major events (1.OG-2.WCH-3.ECH-4.WC) decreases, state aid to the federation will also decreases, aid to young talents then will automatically decreases, and by time the interest for this sport definitively ends.
You probably may not realize it as someone from a strong sports country. but for small countries with much smaller population and much smaller depth The Olympics relay have all this in their power.
I get it, we're not a powerhouse either, our men's team is basically Guzik getting a random Top 40 in Oberhof and others are crap. Nedza-Kubiniec needs 10/10 to even crack Top 60 which happens like once a season, several others have retired like Mateusz Janik lately.
We rely on the Olympic relay Top 8 funding in several sports as well - like Nordic combined or cross country during Justyna Kowalczyk's heyday.

I remember years ago the panel in the target sort of broke and covered the target in half only. And TV commentators wondered if that was counted as a hit or not. That was ca. 20 years ago and I don't remember who was the athlete involved anymore.

So here she is
Veronika Machyniaková, 20/20 yesterday. 20th fastest shooting time !......but 99th skiing time (only 2 slower skiers yesterday)
So..
I Just finished to read the reactions of our both girls who started yesterday.
They didn't know what to expect, very small experiences in this event, Horvátová never run a 15km individual before, and suddenly hop both were thrown into a lion's hole in the world cup, without their physiotherapist or coach. Plus, with lousy start numbers with the task of not losing much and trying to limit the damages in the nations cup...
They both knew that if they wanted to at least get closer to the goal, they needed to shoot extremely well with as few mistakes as possible.
and they succeeded. Only one miss from the 40 targets (Horvátová the very last 20th shot).
They were so happy with their shooting, sadly Biathlon is a sport composed of 2 different sports
and in the latter they struggled extremely.
Veronika Machyniaková despite perfect shooting had only 2 girls who were slower on the track yesterday...
Both will have to start in the sprint today ! Gonna be hard for them after yesterday, but again there is too much in the game to just give up
Hell Kudos for the girls to fight with this pressure. but in other hand with such skiing I start to think if it would be really fair and deserved to qualify a relay to the games
I suppose as long as the Fialkovas are active you just have to pretend there is depth for the sake of the relay? Wheels will only come off once Fialkovas retire?

First SOG I was able to watch live all the way (because Seoul was a bad time zone for me as a kid and I remember Wronski and Legien the most)
Some of my memorable moments from athletics:
Nobody pays attention to the winner as Gail Devers blows it. Unlike Lolo Jones 16 years later, Devers still had 100m to make up for the drama.
Kevin Young's WR.
And the 800m finals.

After today, it's only the twelth time that a Lithuanian biathlete makes it into the top 20. A lot of it is still dominated by Diana, but Vytautas and Tomas still have a career ahead of them.
1. Diana Rasimovičiūtė, 8th place, 2011/12 season, Oberhof Sprint
2. Diana Rasimovičiūtė, 10th place, 2009/10 season, Oberhof Sprint
3. Diana Rasimovičiūtė, 11th place, 2008/09 season, Pyeong Chang WCH Sprint
4. Diana Rasimovičiūtė, 11th place, 2006/07 season, Pokljuka Sprint
5. Tomas Kaukėnas, 13th place, 2018 Pyeong Chang Olympic Games Pursuit
6. Diana Rasimovičiūtė, 15th place, 2011/12 season, Khantiy-Mansiysk Sprint
7. Vytautas Strolia, 16th place, 2020/21 season, Kontiolahti Individual
8. Tomas Kaukėnas, 17th place, 2018 Pyeong Chang Olympic Games Sprint
9. Diana Rasimovičiūtė, 18th place, 2006 Turino Olympics Games Sprint
10. Diana Rasimovičiūtė, 18th place, 2013/14 season, Ostersund Individual
11. Diana Rasimovičiūtė, 19th place, 2009/10 season, Rupholding Sprint
12. Vytautas Strolia, 20th place, 2019/20 season, Oberhof Sprint
There are further three Lithuanians that have made top 40 in the past
25th Karol Dombrovski, 2018/19 season, Pokljuka Individual
27th Natalija Kočergina, 2018/19 season, Ostersund WCH Sprint
39th Gabrielė Leščinskaitė, 2014/15 season, Kontiolahti WCH Individual
A humble history for Lithuanian biathlon, but yes, only six athletes have made it into the top 40 at least once and we're in this for like 20 years.
Only Diana Rasimovičiūtė is no longer active.
Can we have Karol Dombrovski back? He'd be an immediate upgrade for our men's team

I’m going to need a diagram of some kind, I think.
It's still not Simone Greiner-Petter-Memm. After all those years I still don't know what part was her married name or if she was married in first place

Did Braisaz and Chevalier marry each other, to both end up with the same surname?
Thanks to Polish ES I can tell you they both married two guys with the same last name but who are NOT related. So they're not sisters-in-law now

Never thought I’d write the sentence: “Pope pens Op-Ed in New York Times to criticize the decision of Catholic Supreme Court justices.” But here we are in the year 2020.
Pope Francis is a left-wing Catholic. He's at odds with mostly right-wing Catholics across the world (because right-wing military juntas in South America oppressed the Catholic Church). That's also why Pope Francis doesn't have much staying power because most Catholics in the world side with right-wing, especially those who experienced the wrath of communism.

Vlhova wins. Like this could have ended with any other winner
