Is there as much discussion in your countries about race walking 'being ridiculous' and 'why is not every single athlete thrown out?' and 'why is this a sport if clearly everyone breaks the rules all the time' and so on? :p

I mean, outside of European/world athletics championships and the Olympics of course nobody here watches a second of race walking, but during those events, it's the exact same discussion every time :p

In SEA Games race walking is often done inside the stadium so usually people 'accidentally' watch it on TV. Of course the less knowledgeable ones will find it funny and see no point why they have to walk like that (usually they call it geal geol which means "wobbling").

We have Hendro who is quite a decent athlete in South East Asian level (but sadly doesn't get much funding) so the respect for race walking is higher than what it was 10-15 years ago. He recently also accepted a challenge where he walks against a bunch of community runners, further increasing the awareness among the general public

If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated! Full story and how to help can be found here!

Race walking is largely seen as a joke event in the United States. There might be a bigger following for cornhole and/or spikeball. The few people aware of it spend a lot time making comments like you said.

Right, without the cornhole and/or spikeball things (whatever those are), this is exactly the way it is seen here, sadly :p

Of course there's some people who are enthousiastic about it, but the number is....tiny.

Cornhole is mostly a backyard/tailgate game, but there is a televised professional circuit. (My Dutch colleague was amazed to see it being shown in bar in Birmingham last summer.)

Spikeball is a newer sport that also originally caught on as a backyard/tailgate game, but now has a professional circuit.

Some f…up. Sth went wrong with the flag pole and they couldn’t wave the Norwegian flag. Dominican flag was left there for Warholm. But the Norwegian fans had their own ones!!!

Absolutely horrible organization by Hungary. This shitshow, golf carts crashing into each other injuring athletes, call room so hot that athletes almost get a heat stroke. Obviously not all world championships can be as perfect as Berlin in 2009, but this is beyond embarrassing for Hungary.

So americans look at race walking the way europeans look at UFC, baseball, softball, lacross and football?

Edit: The more i think about it the more sense it makes. Football/Hammer throw/Shot put = Sport for fat people who are too lazy to move, but still want to call themselves athletes. Makes sense that americans/north americans are good at both.
