Marbula 1 and Sand Rally are also top tier events.

Yeah, I think so. Marble League starts later this month. I’ll be pulling for the Orangers and Savage Speeders. I used to be a Limers fan, but they disgraced themselves during qualification last year

Since this was double elimination, the Argentinian advanced to the gold medal match, while Perez “won” bronze.

Exactly.  The other events are just the Marbling equivalent of indoor five-a-side football or pre-season friendlies.  Only the Marble League is the prestige event.

There was some concern about several foreign drivers making it, but apparently it's been solved for all of them.

Also, Indy Lights 2020 has been entirely canceled. Too bad for the 10 drivers registered.

Just went through yet another Earthquake. They haven’t released the number yet, but I’m going to say it was in the neighborhood of a 4.5. There was a 3.9 very early this morning that I didn’t feel.

I wouldn’t go so far as to call it a sport, but it is an enjoyable mock competition. I am quite invested in it though. Which competition did you watch?

For example people who start in Dakar or Isle of Man and so on are old enough to make their own decisions and weigh the pros and cons of their participation. You just can't expect an 11 year old kid to have that same kind of level especially in sports that are inherently more dangerous than for example football, tennis or athletics.

Next time when the US criticizes an authoritarian country about the repression of press freedom, the government/regime concerned will just cynically point to videos like this....

Hence my saying you can't be sure if it's real or not with all of these situations and insinuations of who is behind the violence.

I feel like there’s some misunderstanding between me and lot of users on this issue. I would just like to say that I think there’s a big difference between U.S. and European (at least Western) police cultures. Police are systematically ruthless, quick to trigger, and feel like they’re above the law in this country. It’s not just one or two bad cops, it’s the bad system of policing that we’ve let run rampant for years. I’ve seen some many horrific actions from police officers across my country in the last decade. It isn’t limited to one department, one city, or one state. It isn’t a “blue v. red” issue. It’s all bad. I’ve watched documentaries about how police behave in Europe. Your police are less armed, receive more sensitivity training, have better conflict resolution techniques, and generally much kinder people than American police. I don’t think it’s impossible for change in my country. I’m obviously discouraged by a lot of other issues that have been left to fester for years as well. I know the violence and vitriol of these protests is shocking (and it’s a same organized crime is using them for their advantage), but you have to understand that these feelings have been growing in cities for decades. There’s a possibility it only gets worse moving forward. The only period of our history where the country has been as partisan as it is now, was leading up to/and during the Civil War. For as much as I hate my country right now, I think it is possible to one reach a place where we live up to what it truly means to be American. I know this is a long post, and I apologize for really taking over this thread the last few days, but I just need a safe outlet to air my frustrations right now. It’s a dark time in my nation. It’s sad, but it’s necessary. I hope that come 2028, when we invite the world to our beautiful state and country, it is a place that I can be proud to call home. Unfortunately, it can’t say that now.

After 42 deaths last month we have a much shorter list this month although it includes five Olympic champions.

Both Balbir Singh of India and Bobby Morrow of the USA won three Olympic gold medals culminating in success at the 1956 Games in Melbourne. India has won eight men's Olympic hockey titles including six in a row between 1928-56. Singh was a member of the team for the last three of those wins and captained the side in 1956. His wonderful record has been alluded to earlier in this thread but his record of five goals in an Olympic final may stand for all time.

Unlike Singh, Morrow only competed at one Games picking up golds in the 100m, 200m and 4×100m relay. He retired two years later at the age of just 23 although he subsequently made a failed attempt to return in order to try and qualify for the next Games in Rome.

The Greek sailor Georgios Zaimis won a gold medal in the three man Dragon class at the 1960 Games. Among his crewmates was the both future and former King Constantine of Greece. Alexander Gerasimov of the former Soviet Union was a member of their gold medal winning ice hockey team in 1984. He is the second member of the squad to die this year following the death of Alexander Skvortsov in February. Finally, Wolfgang Gunkel won a gold medal for the former East Germany in the coxed pairs at Munich in 1972.

Unlike the others Stefan Burkart of Switzerland was not an Olympic champion but at the age of 38 years, 10 months and 14 days he was the oldest person to compete in the Olympic 100m until 40 year old Kim Collins surpassed that record in Rio.

That is my guess to.  There used to be a website that would show the funniest things that Google Translate would come up with.  It was a lot like awkwardfamilyphotos, people would submit the things that were really funny, I am not sure what happened.  I think as the technology has improved, the mistakes are not as massive as they once were.

The article make me wonder some if she was really serious, or was this an effort to draw more attention to herself.  No idea.  I

There’s not much else to talk about at the moment, so I don’t think anyone cares. I debating about asking more questions. We usually do a little weekly podcast for Totallympics Media, but we’ve been off lately because of Covid-19. Maybe an interview about your experiences at the World Games would be a good way to bring it back this summer if you’re interested. If you’re down for that, we talk more in Twitter DMs about the details.

Yeah, I’ve noticed we look more like the Hobo Olympic Team than the U.S. National Team when it comes to the World Games. In fairness, at least we had an actual flag bearer (which is more than some other countries could say). It’s unfortunate the U.S. didn’t give you guys the “Olympic experience” though.

Our sport climbers were barred from the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics because the (then) USOC refused to send athletes in “non-Olympic sports” (which was a lame excuse, since sport climbing is on the program in 2020 (and probably here to stay for a while)).

I heard that the games were really popular in Central European, but it’s nice to hear confirmation of that. I’m not super hopeful Birmingham 2022 (World Games, not Commonwealth Games) will catch the attention of the public. I will say the LOC is doing their best. They’ve had a great outreach program at local schools to get kids interested, and they’ve toured Alabama to drum up so interest in the local communities. I would imagine they’ll strike some type of broadcast deal with FOX, NBC, or ESPN (though ISB will be the host broadcaster again thankfully (which means the world feed will good as long as you have a vpn)), but I would imagine that the games won’t get a ton of air-time (though I’d love to surprised). The World Games did start right here in the Golden State in 1987, so maybe there’s still some lingering interest (though I doubt it).

Maybe the tournament would have been better (for the Polish) without the Americans in hindsight

The French, Russians, Italians, Germans, Chinese always get kitted-out no matter what games it is.

That’s a great story. When my dad graduated from U of Montana, he didn’t try out for any teams. He did pretty much go right into coaching American Football, Athletics, and Wrestling though. He coached quite a few high school state champions in Athletics and Wrestling in Oregon. American Football was always his favorite child though. He got invited to coach in Finland, and was ready to go, but that fell through at the last minute. It’s a good thing too, since he met my mother right after that
