  1. I'm starting to write a new book The Little (Black)-Red-(Gold) Book of Sports, Quotations from a great Fan of the Olympics Chapter 1 - Definitions 1) No-name = every athlete who has a <90% chance of medal.
  2. Only speaking of team events: - World Cup and Continental Championships: 64 points for the winner and so on , example http://fie.org/competitions/2018/744/results/rank - World Championships: 128 points for the winner and so on, example http://fie.org/competitions/2018/247/results/rank
  3. The FIE Ranking http://fie.org/results-statistic/ranking is like tennis: for every competition, a team/fencer defend the points won in the corresponding competition the previous year. The Olympic Ranking will be the FIE Ranking as of 4 April 2020 (so counting results from April 2019). So if you are only interested in the Olympic Ranking, you can think that in April 2019 every team/fencer starts from zero points. For teams, you add the points gained at World Championships + Continental Championships + best 4 results at Team World Cups in April 2019- 4 April 2020. For individuals, you add the points gained at World Championships + Continental Championships + best 5 results at World Cups/GP in April 2019- 4 April 2020.

  11. Hannes Reichelt didn't attend the Bib choice despite being in the top 10 of the WCSL...so he will apparently start as 45th tomorrow.

  14. Absolutely pointless race, completely unworthy. The fact that almost everyone on the blue course won clearly shows that this course was ridiculous. I guess Joerg cant believe her luck. A couple of years ago someone like her never would have gotten a gold medal in PGS, but sadly the level of competition is at an all time low. I miss the days of Ledecky (misspelling her name makes me feel cool ) ... [semicit.]

  18. Hopefully they will meet in Rome because there's an UCI meeting or something that they should have attended anyway. Either that or they are stealing money from their organizations to go on a holiday.

Yes but if I understand correctly this is a big modification of your previous system and is actually quite close to the current one: Points will be awarded as follows: - For right predicted Gold Medal Winner - 4 points 3 points - For right predicted Silver Medal Winner - 3 points. - For right predicted Bronze Medal Winner - 2 points 3 points - For right predicted Athlete/Nation but wrong place/medal - 1 point 2 points - Bonus points: 1 bonus point will be awarded to predictor who predicted all medalists correctly, regardless of the order (1-2-3, 1-3-2, 2-1-3, 2-3-1, 3-2-1, 3-1-2). I think one would have to compare different predictions (about a single event and a whole contest) and decide which one is better to come up with the best system: Example: Results: 1. Aksel Lund Svindal 2. Kjetil Jansrud 3. Beat Feuz User A predicted: 1. Kjetil Jansrud 2. Beat Feuz 3. A.L. Svindal User B predicted: 1. D. Paris 2. C. Innerhofer 3. Beat Feuz Which is the better prediction? P.S. 1) I still prefer the current system; 2) I think that whoever runs the contest (doing most of the work) should be entitled to use the scoring system that he thinks is the most fitting...no need to use always the same system if there are different managers.

Because predicting a correct gold means that you started ordering the athletes in the correct order, while guessing bronze correctly is mainly due to luck if you previously missed gold and silver. Example: Result: Svindal- Jansrud- Feuz Prediction: Paris - Innerhofer - Feuz... you guessed Feuz "only" because two people that you hadn't predicted finished ahead of him...imo this is lucky. Now I have a question...in my previous post why should User A get more points than User B?
  21. I don't agree at all...I think the current system is much better and it's fair to give more points for gold. Example using wumo's suggestion: suppose you have a contest with 11 events (like alpine skiing). User A predicts correctly all bronze medals but nothing else...so 0 G, 0 S, 11 B for a total of 11 medallists in correct positions. User B predicts correctly gold and silver in 6 events and nothing else for a total of 12 medallists in correct position: 6 G, 6 S, 0 B. In my opinion User B predicted (much) better than User A but the standings would be: User A 44 points User B 36 points This doesn't make much sense to me.
  22. Just as a comparison, I've had a look at the 2016 balance sheet of the Italian Basketball Federation on their website...it looks like they paid 2.5 million € to FIBA for a men's OQT ...according to the press, they had to offer at least 1.7 million in order to bid.
