Actually we lost second quota because we did not send our women relay to one of World cup races. For this cycle, to be fair, we would have to send only Eržen, because most points was distributed by Teja Gregorin, which, as we know, was banned for doping. Therefore my opininon is they should modernize standards.
-
How stupid is that, four years ago was among best mixed relay teams, even with silver from WCH, and because of obscure rules, they were not allowed to sent two female biathletes to Sochi. This time Gregorin is banned and somehow we will sent Poje on her expense. These IBU quotas are very dumb, if you ask me.

The only skier from Slovenia mentioned these days outside those 11 already chosen is Klara Livk, but knowing that our NOC rarely changes their decision, she will probably stay home, no matter what.

I got a little satisfaction, when Germany and Macedonia finished behind us. Take that, EHF and Germany.

Road to Pyeongchang 2018 Official OKS list (71 athletes / 9 sports) Alpine Skiing (11) Boštjan Kline - DH, SG, K Klemen Kosi - DH, SG, K Martin Čater - DH, SG, K Žan Kranjec - GS, SL Miha Hrobat - GS, SL, K (?) Here are all changes: - in Alpine Skiing Miha Hrobat was added to the list, because has 11 athletes in quota - for Cross Country Skiing Einfalt or Slabanja could come through, they are waiting for international confirmation - in Luge, finally wise decision. Two athletes (Sirše and Biruš) achieve international quota, but not national quota. Therefore it was decided better one (Sirše) will represent Slovenian luge in Pyeongchang. - Ski jumping: coaches Goran Janus (Men) and Stane Baloh (Ladies) can pick 5 male and 4 female jumpers till end of this week freely - in Snowboarding there is no Jure Hafner (first in waiting list-PGS), but there is Pribošič, though she also currently sits in first spot among reserves One more fact to conclude: - This will be the biggest expedition so far at Winter Olympics, but without Hockey team was repesented with 1 (one) more individual in Vancouver 2010.

OKS has confirmed - 71 in Pyeongchang It is now official, will compete in Pyeongchang with 71 athletes. - Second time in history we will be represented in team sports (men's hockey) - 71 athletes is the biggest expedition ever at Winter Olympics (66 in Sochi, 47 in Vancouver) - will be represented in 9 out of 15 sports (8 in Sochi, 10 in Vancouver) - Missing athletes in Figure skating, Skeleton from once represented (never had athletes in both Speed Skating, Bob and Curling) You can find more exact list of athletes in Slovenia National Thread. -
Great team effort from our girls. With good attacking run there is quite possible to advance, so hoping for at least one in top 10 and another two in top 15.

Only Schladming (Men's SL) and Kronplatz (Ladies GS) to go, we will soon know, how many athletes is going to represent Slovenia at the Olympics. I live only few kilometers away from one of our lugers. Slovenia had already two spots in Sochi, but because of our hockey expedition no one from luge went to Russia. It is now almost certain Tilen Sirše will represent our country in Pyeongchang, fingers crossed.

Slovenia handball team lost very weird opening match, full of odd judges decisions, against Macedonia. But, to be fair, our team managed to lost two important balls in the final stages, so main fault is on our side. Today we play against Germany, whom we never beaten in official match. But, we also almost never beat Spain in basketball, but look what happened few months ago at Eurobasket. Gremo naši !!!
-
If only he would stay with Natalie Santer, than maybe
-
For me only four are way better, others just have some flashbacks, they were not so consistent. I am aware that would like for sake of history see Bjoerndalen in Korea, therefore much more sense is to give him first leg in Ruhpolding relay and then give final word.
-
But skiing is only one part of biathlon, so as I wrote in my first post, I would organize some kind of trials among those 4 athletes for final two places with same conditions.
-
Sorry, I miscalculated, Bjoentegaard was really quite fast, but L'Abee Lund not, if he would miss as many as Ole, he would end up 6 seconds behind. Though I would like to see him compete in Pyeongchang (also Johannes Boe said there are no Olympics without Ole), he did not meet with Norwegian standards (one top 6 or two top 12 finish). Therefore I would give him one last try in the relay, give him some internal standard to achieve and if not, bye bye Pyeongchang.
-
@Werloc Wow, I hope you will do fine, when do you perform? Anyway, best of luck.
-
I would love to see Ole in Relay on Friday and then they should decide, but still I believe there is a place for him in Norwegian squad. My pick would be: NO DOUBT 1) J.T. Boe - 5 wins and 9 podiums says everything 2) T. Boe - only one who beat Fourcade and J.T. Boe this season 3) Svendsen - though he had not start all races, had quite good results (one 2nd, three 4th) QUITE CONSISTENT 4) Birkeland - he only came in twice in top 10, but would we very weird put at home 11th best biathlete of the season RACE OFF FOR TWO PLACES 5) L'Abee Lund - very good in Hochfilzen (5th/8th), but with some downs in other races 6) Bjoentegaard - did very well in Relay, single only twice 10th 7) Bjoerndalen - still waiting for his breakthrough, but is still faster than all other guys in this group, except L'Abee Lund. Still proper man for anchor leg in Relay. 8) Christiansen - second choice for being in 1st leg of Relay, individually only today won his first points of the season 9) Gjesbakk - too bad he got his chance only once in WC, but he came in 7th in Annecy.

WEEKLY UPDATE (December 11th - December 17th 2017) Basketball player Goran Dragič and Alpine skier Ilka Štuhec became Sportsperson of the year at an annual ceremony, which took place in Cankarjev dom, Ljubljana. Goran Dragič is only fifth athlete from team sports to achieve this prize in 50 years. Dragič was one of key factors on the way to gold for Slovenia at Eurobasket 2017 and alson MVP of the championship. Second was road cyclist Primož Roglič, first ever Slovenian to win a stage on Tour de France, also second in time trial at WCH and third another outstanding basketball player Luka Dončič. Among women there was no doubt. Ilka Štuhec succeded Tina Maze as Downhill World Champion, she was also second in Overall World Cup Standings. Second best athlete is our outstanding sport climber Janja Garnbret and third judoka Tina Trstenjak for finishing second at WCH. Best team of the season without any doubt was National Basketball Team, first team ever to win gold at major team events, Handball Team took second for bronze medal in WCH. Žan Kranjec finished 3rd at legendary GS in Alta Badia. This is his first podium, also first men GS podium for Slovenia after 16 years (Uroš Pavlovčič; 3rd Kranjska Gora 2001). Slovenia Women Handball Team took 14th place on their first WCH after 2005. Slovenia lost against Sweden in Round of 16 by margin of 12 goals (21:33). National Volleyball Team will not compete in newly established Nations League, even though they earned in on court. Instead they will compete in European League - Golden Group. Tennis player Aljaž Bedene will be once again competing for Slovenia. Bedene lives in London for 9 years and was playing for United Kingdom last three seasons. ITF did not gave him permission to play for another country in Davis cup, therefore he was not able to compete at the Rio Olympics. His next goal is to qualify for 2020 Tokio Olympics. Jakov Fak took 8th and twice 13th place at biathlon races in France. Fak remains 3rd in Overall World Cup Standings. Swimmers failed to win a medal at European SC Champs in Copenhagen, first time after 1996. Best result is sixth place (Stevens - 50 breast M / Oder - 800 free W).
