  3. It was another great night of TISC, even more for those who stayed up until the end and didn't leave after the third session like I did . A huge thank you to everyone who voted for our song (@Henry_Leon, @Pablita, @SteveParker, @NikolaB, @Ionoutz24, @IoNuTzZ, @vinipereira, @Benolympique, @Bohemia, @konig, @LDOG, @ManuCHIL, @Illya, @Hipooo, @dezbee2008, @Olympian1010, @Wanderer, @Memo, @heywoodu, @Werloc, @Vektor, @kungshamra71, @Belle). I'm glad you liked it as much as we did. I think this contest had a very high level of quality, therefore I'm very happy with our 6th place. We chose a strong entry this year, Mantissa was a huge instant hit here when it was first released. Fun fact, Marina Satti and Michalis Kouinelis, who wrote the lyrics, had met when they worked together for the greek dubbing in Moana, a few months before doing Mantissa. Congratulations to @Cinnamon Bun on the win and to @Vektor, @Henry_Leon, @Pablita, @SteveParker on their medals . Congratulations to @Glen, @Makedonas and @Yannakis for our gold medal in the team event . A huge thank you to @Olympian1010 for all the hard work you put in order to overcome all the technical struggles and produce this great show . A few notes regarding our votes. Indonesia, Slovakia and Serbia were the first to miss out on our top 12. Italy and Brazil were the only nations that got points from all three members of our jury. Great Britain got our 12 points with a combined total of 22 points and Mexico got our 1 point with a combined total of 11 points. Serbian song was the only one that didn't get points, despite being voted by more than one jury member. From the songs I voted, 9 ended up receiving points from Greece. However, two of the three that didn't, were in my top 6. From the songs I voted, 8 ended up in the eventual top 12. Below is my personal ballot. 1st 12 pts Hungary 2nd 11 pts Great Britain 3rd 10 pts Croatia 4th 9 pts Germany 5th 8 pts Indonesia 6th 7 pts Slovakia 7th 6 pts Canada 8th 5 pts Netherlands 9th 4 pts Malta 10th 3 pts Mexico 11th 2 pts Italy 12th 1 pts Brazil Res1 Denmark Res2 Romania Res3 Spain I hope to see you all in the spring for the next TISC!

  4. Grand Final: Closing Remarks Thank you all for making this edition so wonderful. The technology problems were annoying, but you remained understanding and patient, which I truly appreciate. It was wonderful spending the day with all of you. TISC remains my favorite activity on Totallympics. I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to host this incredible event. I hope you were able to learn a bit about California, while discovering a new favorite artist. I’d like to extend a special thanks to @mrv86 @OlympicIRL @vinipereira @Sindo for their timely and immense support throughout this process. I’d also like to congratulate our winners. @Cinnamon Bun in the main event. @Glen @Makedonas @maestro @Yannakis in the team event. It truly is time to drop the curtains on this wonderful event. I sincerely hope to reconvene for TISC in a few months with all of you! Signing off, Olympian1010

  5. M51kg Yusuf Chothia . Zain Adams, New Zealand's entry appears to have withdrawn althoug I wouldn't have expected him to qualify anyway. Chothia has to go through Eriu Temakau who is based in Australia and Charles Keama before a final probably against Nehal Chand . Clinton Tetekana is the other boxer in the draw. I would be somewhat surprised if any of Chothia's fights go the distance. M57kg Charlie Senior . Charlie Senior should comfortably win here. His path to the final involves going through David Rounds , almost certainly Alex Mukuka and likely Allan Aoike . Although Aoike does need to beat Boe Warawara who did compete at the Rio Olympics. M63.5kg Harry Garside . The only Olympic medallist in the draw although I would not expect him to get anywhere near repeating the feat. He should qualify though albeit the draw could have been kinder with Olympian John Ume in the first round likely followed by Australian based Pemberton Lele with Kalani Marra waiting in the final assuming he beats Lautufa Lutu and Elia Rokobuli . M71kg Wendell Stanley . Finally I get to pick a non Australian. Shannan Davey has to go through Tauwhiri Toheriri and likely Taufu Lavemaau before a final against Wendell Stanley who has a very straightforward path to the final. Stanley beat Davey on a split decision the previous time they met. M80kg Callum Peters Callum Peters isn't very good but its a pity that Emile Richardson is worse. The top of this draw is actually pretty interesting with a quarter final of Richardson against Roman Viney who met at the New Zealand national champs earlier this year where Richardson won a split decision. Jolando Taala who is American based awaits in the semis and it is very possible that we don't see a New Zealand Australian final here despite them being on opposite sides of the draw. Peters will likely face Aminiasi Saratiba in his semi. M92kg Ato Plodziki-Faoagali This is the most interesting weightclass here and might the only weight where I'm not entirely sure I made the right pick although one or two of the other ones will definitely prove incorrect for one reason or another. Ato Plodziki-Faoagali goes up against Peneteekosi Tatafu and Michael Schuster in his path to the final. The other semi will almost certainly see Adrain Paoletti face Malcolm Matthes . Paoletti has beaten Matthes before. The loser of Plodzicki-Faoagali vs Paoletti will likely be the only boxer I didn't pick here who I might pick to qualify at one of the world qualifying tournaments although, emphasis on might. M92+kg Teremoana Jnr There was a fascinating story here as New Zealand champion Matt Mataika elected to represent Tonga instead due to the self funding requirements of New Zealand boxing. So the real final here is actually the prospective semi between Mataika and Teremoana Jnr. Unfortunately for Tongan hopes Teremoana jnr is one of Australian's better boxers, maybe even their best male boxer here. The other side of the draw probably sees Patrick Mailata who was born in Samoa face Elijah Mercury Leafa who is based in New Zealand. So my final tally is Australia-11, New Zealand-1, Samoa-1 and it is probably more likely Australia gets to 12 than falls to 10. This Australia squad is a half decent Australian squad but the fact that they will cruise to double digits with the likes of Kazakhstan on 2 qualifiers and GB on 3 after continental qualifying is ridiculous. I should also note that the other non-Olympic weightclasses are being contested here with no Australia or New Zealand so there should be plenty of shinier medals to go around to the smaller nations plus all the bronze going around because the most entries in any of the weight classes is 8 and most have significantly fewer.

  11. We are down to 70 unqualified nations remaining. I've updated all nations and sports, adding/removing potential events. Let me know if I missed anything. Since most nations remaining are tripartite eligible (everyone except ) many of the predicted options rely on winning one of those quotas. Here's the breakdown by how many nations have a chance in each sport. Athletics - 63 Swimming - 61 Judo - 40 Boxing - 22 Weightlifting - 22 Taekwondo - 20 Shooting - 13 Canoeing - 11 Badminton - 10 Rowing - 8 Sailing - 8 Table Tennis - 8 Archery - 7 Tennis - 7 Wrestling - 7 Gymnastics - 5 Fencing - 4 Football - 4 Surfing - 4 Cycling - 3 Handball - 3 Basketball - 2 Equestrian - 2 Rugby Sevens - 2 Triathlon - 2 Artistic Swimming - 1 Golf - 1 Volleyball - 1 Water Polo - 1 Breaking - 0 Diving - 0 Field Hockey - 0 Modern Pentathlon - 0 Skateboarding - 0 Sport Climbing - 0 Unsurprisingly, athletics and swimming tops the list. Judo being third was expected. It is the easiest sport for a nation to qualify after athletics/swimming. Shooting being a bit low on the list despite having so many tripartite quotas likely means either many quotas will be reallocated or ISSF may change the rules and allow nations with no ranking points to be given the quota. Boxing, taekwondo and weightlifting are popular sports with some nations having a chance to qualify normally. Unfortunately a large set of nations will be left with nothing. On the low end six sports do not have any nations with a chance to qualify, most of which have tripartite quotas that will likely go unrewarded.

Without most of their Track and Field stars, suffered the biggest drop here in the rankings, as well as in gold and total medals percentage. all had their best Games ever, and I think some other nations too: . had a huge increase in the total number of medals, but failed to win more gold medals, which is certainly a bit disappointing for a host nation. They lost a staggering number of direct finals (14 out of 17), which would certainly help them in the ranking (they also were 8th in 2019). Even with a drop in medals, achieved a better ranking compared to Lima, which I think is a first for a previous host? Record number of nations that medaled in a single edition with 34, thanks in part to six NOCs that managed to win at least one medal after none in Lima: . Three nations that had at least one medal in 2019 did not win any this time: .

  21. Grand Final: Our Venue Happy TISC Everyone! With voting, draws, and the opening ceremony out of the way it's nearly time for the Grand Final. Of course, we'll need a venue for the festivites. Unlike the draw, I knew from the begging which venue I'd choose. I remember seeing gorgeous nature camera shots of it on the local news growing up and I've been fascinated by it over since. Reaching the venue won't be too easy for juries, however. They'll need to catch a ferry out of Long Beach to the island of Santa Catalina. It is one of the Channel Islands located off the coast of Southern California. The island's main center of population is Avalon. The use of motor vehicles is very restricted, so juries will travel to the venue by golf cart or bike once on the island. Thankfully, our venue is located conveniently right near the harbor. I present the: Catalina Casino. This nearly 100 year old venue has withstood the ever changing landscape of California and Catalina. Completed in 1929, it houses a theatre on the bottom, and a large rounded ballroom on the top. It is heavily influenced by the Art Deco movement. The theatre will host the main section of the Grand Final, with the ballroom being utilized as a socialization/snacks area. You can find a picture of the ballroom below, along with links a gallery covering the theatre. Gallery Link: https://www.theavalontheatre.com/gallery

  25. Not entirely sure if there is much point predicting these but for completeness lets do it. Very nearly missed this starting as well. Results site said this wasn't starting until Tuesday. There is one qouta up for grabs in all weightclasses. I don't understand why Oceania needed an automatic quota at all given that enough of them qualified through Asia. I believe 9 Oceanians qualified last time although in a few cases in the same weightclass so this automatic spot but only one per weightclass seems strange and unnecessary W50kg Monique Suraci Should be pretty clear cut. Will face Tasmyn Benny in the final after Benny beats a home boxer. W54kg Tiana Echegaray Tiana Echegaray has beaten Christine Gillespie before so should win the qouta spot. They face off in the semis before almost certainly meeting Hainite Tuitupou in the final who is good enough to mention here given thats its not like either of the other two are any good. None of these would be anywhere near a quota globally. W57kg Tina Rahimi This one isn't a foregone conclusion but I would still back Australia here. Jennifer Peters is her opponent and doesn't seem to have basically any international experience. Another Semi final matchup for the quota spot with Feofaaki Epenisa the likely final opponent. W60kg Tyla Mcdonald I should pick Erin Walsh here as she is the best New Zealander so far as in she has literally beaten the previous couple but well her international results are pretty hopeless. McDonald's aren't much better but well they are slightly. McDonald has to go through the only women's quarter final against a home boxer before a semi final against Baby Nansen who is a professional boxer and kickboxer in New Zealand albeit not a very good one. Walsh's semi is against Elizabeth Teapu . (Who mixed in with her very Tongan name has a random Quinn thrown in there so clearly has some sort of Irish connection. (Presumably as tangible a connection as Jaismine Camacho-Quinn who was very confused when an Irish interviewer asked her about it in Tokyo.) Erin Walsh has an actual Irish connection as she was born here.) W66kg Marissa Williamson Entry list has a bunch of entries but its a straight final on the draw sheet unfortunately. Marissa Williamson had a very impressive win beating out World silver medallist at 70kg Kaye Scott at Australian trials and should be way too good for Cara Wharerau . W75kg Caitlin Parker Probably the only true Olympic medal contender in Oceania prabably in either gender, Caitlin Parker should be much too good for her competition here. She faces Eseta Flint who is Australian but representing having obviously failed to get the Australian selection in her semi. The other semi sees Deanne Read face timolai lafaialii .

  33. California Dreaming California’s impact on the world is larger than its borders. Our films bless cinema worldwide. Our flora and fauna beckon to tourists. Our technology allows many jury members to experience this contest today. California is known as the “Golden State,” or “Land of Opportunities.” It’s where many artists come to chase their dreams. With that in mind, we start today’s journey with an iconic hit…

  36. Exactly 30 years ago Romania needed a win in Wales to qualiy for 1994 World Cup. We won 2-1 in Cardiff. The national coach then was Anghel Iordanescu and one of the scorers was Gheorghe Hagi. Today we qualified by exactly same score, 2-1 away, the national coach is Anghel Iordanescu's son, Eduard Iordanescu and one of the scorers is Gheorghe Hagi's son, Ianis Hagi😁. What a great story in our fotball😍

  38. Rather unlikely, alright. If Churandy Martina gets a medal I swear I'm not gonna keep my eyes dry Individual medal for Liemarvin Bonevacia would be absolutely amazing as well. Both guys are true gold medal winners in terms of life attitude and overal source of inspiration. For example, I love Bonevacia's answer in Tokyo when, after the semi's (where he qualified for the final), he was asked about his 'prayer' before the race, asked if he was asking for help from above: "Not really, you're not gonna ask God to make other people have a bad race. I just asked, please, if today is my day, let my dream come true, if it's someone else's day, let their dream come true." Just a minor example, they're just overall great guys.

Big thanks to @Olympian1010 for hosting an incredible anniversary contest and also thanks to @OlympicIRLfor picking a song so personal to me (it was the song my Rugby League team Widnes Vikings used to walk on to when I first started going to watch them). Hopefully if everything goes to plan, Liverpool will host the contest next year. Oh, and sorry I couldn't make it last night. Was too busy watching Doctor Who.

No lies, I must admit this time I am a bit disappointed by this final result, since this song and artist has a huge place in my heart and is one of my very top fav local musicians I wished and hoped somehow for some success for her here, but apparently she did not touch so many ears and hearts outside of my room. 43. Turn On, Tune In, and Drop Out Hollyweed might not have graced the Valley long, but California is notorious for its attitude towards recreational drugs. The 1960s saw the emergence of the counterculture hippie movement at the intersection of Haight Street and Ashbury street in San Francisco. Young people disenfranchised by the government, suburban cookie-cutter lifestyle, and the Vietnam War descended upon the city. They explored their spirituality, practiced free-love, embraced communal living, and experimented with psychedelic drugs. The movement culminated with the Summer of Love. The aesthetic was tie-dye and the goal was harmony. Of course, frustration with the established lifestyle was high too. It was a wild era of massive music festivals and vibrant artistic expression. It ultimately ended with violence and hatred sadly. A haphazardly organized music festival at the Altamont Speedway became synonymous with the end of the era. There were fights, a fatal stabbing, drug overdoses, and ultimately, chaos.

  48. I've encountered an annoying formatting issue that @Sindo @OlympicIRL and I are working to rectify, but due to the short period of time remaining before the scheduled date of the opening ceremony and grand final, it is likely those will need to be pushed back one weekend. I'll provide a more official update tomorrow.
