  1. I’ve spent way too much time on trying to prove that wrong, but the options are indeed limited. The problem with option one is that I need at least 6-7 people to make it fun/worth my time. So 1 person (you) seems down to try it, and another user seemed willing to try it. I can look around for more players, but I know for certain that we’ll need more than 2/3.
  2. Why? People can still be allowed to do things on their own. If people show up to watch (after being told/asked/warned not to) arrest their ass (or more realistically, just have them leave).
  3. Yeah, it is. It shouldn’t be that shocking since the US ranks rather low in terms of education standards amongst 1st world countries. We typically had to read 6-8 novels a year, 1-3 plays, 4-6 short stories, and probably dozen or more poems (but this is in the hardest, most rigorous English classes in the country). There’s absolutely no time to enjoy the readings or discuss about them in great critical detail. For instance, we only spent a week of discussion on a book like Animal Farm (where a good discussion should probably take a few weeks). We also wrote a ton of research papers, timed essays (generally you had to read a short story/poem, and were given 45 minutes or 1 hour to analyze it with a 5 paragraph essay complete with a thesis and evidence), poems, and some other papers. I read a lot of poetry (and write a lot of poetry as well) in school and nowadays as well. I tend not to really care or notice who wrote a poem. Poems are more about message and substance more than trivia knowledge or narrator facts (unless revealed by the poem itself). We read some contemporary literature, but focused more on classic literature (which is fine because I prefer classic literature). My favorite novels/stories were Things Fall Apart, Animal Farm, Fahrenheit 451, and Ella Minnow Pea (which you’ll never have heard, and never understand unless you really understand the gramatical rules of literature). There isn’t really much I didn’t like, I probably wouldn’t be a communications student if I didn’t appreciate language, novels, stories, etc. There’s short story I liked, but it was on a national test, so I’m contracted not to talk about it. I was a really fun story/essay to analyze though. It had to do with how the way we sit (and what we sit on) can infer a lot of about our social status, emotions, etc. I’d be willing to talk more about it in DMs (I could probably find the story if you’re interested). Yes. I agree with that. I’d add that there is some cinema that can’t be replaced by written word either.
  4. Right, but we’ve only grown up in hard times: 9/11, Iraqi and Afghan Wars (both of which many of parents), Great Recession, School Shootings, Trump, impacts of climate change, and now this Pandemic. I’m sorry generation that your generation just excepted that the world was shit and always be, and there’s nothing we can do to change that; but my generation disagrees. Most of these issues are/were preventable, but your generation failed in the mantle of leadership. As Chernobyl ends “the truth is resolute. The truth catches up to laziness, lies, and false leaders.”
  5. This is why my generation has problems with your generation. Y’all just down play issues constantly. I feel like this is more of a misunderstanding, but I’ll gladly trade places in shooter drills with someone.
  6. No, that’s not what the article is arguing. It’s saying that domestic issues have contributed to the self-identity of Gen Z.
  7. In itself? No. Used as a function for an event? Yes. I’m feeling more like option 2 will be a bigger challenge, but that it would be better in the long run.
  8. We can thank what we learned from unbridled capitalism for that
  9. I don’t how saying that numerous crises have affected a group of people is self-centered...
  10. Yep. This is probably the best explanation of why most people in my generation either swing hard left, hard right, or have a total lack of belief in any form of public services/offices/etc.
  11. Alright, I’m little surprised by the initial response (fully expected no one to care, so this is going better than expected ). I’m going to leave the discussion open for another day or two before I really start making some decisions. For now it seems like the 2nd idea has good amount of support. However, there’s also some interest in the 1st, so I’ve start very preliminary planning for both. I still love for users to give their opinions (check the last page for post), so I can gauge a little more of the support for one idea or the other.
  12. What is it with tennis athletes and fringe ideas right now. https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1093404/fabio-fognini-tennis-italy-coronavirus
  13. Like it or not, the IOC counts YOG medals as medals as Olympic medals, so his medal counts.
  14. I’m not as educated about Autism as I should be, but I know there’s a multitude of different “disorders” within the spectrum. So maybe some of those are rated more serious than others. Aspergers v. Down Syndrome for instance. Of course these labels are somewhat troublesome really because I know quite a few people on the spectrum that are doing much better (keeping distance, listening to experts, etc.) than those not on the spectrum.
  15. Seriously, I’m not worried about vegans living their life, but I am worried about anti-vaxers putting our people’s lives in danger.
  16. Haha, fucking idiots They can try all they want, but California is a state that believes in the science. We’ll lift our measures when science dictates. If that’s in the next few weeks, great; if not, oh well. Our capital sits in one of the very few majority conservative parts of the state, so that explains the crowd a little.
  17. Yeah, I see CNN has already been called out in the US too. I shared it mostly because I wanted to see people’s reactions We’d know if Un was really in trouble. He’d disappear for a few days, and the South Koreans would break the news; not the US.
  18. I like the head-to-head idea, but that will take some planning to pull off.
  19. Yeah we have a lot of people like that in California (more North than South). I have respect for people who believe in natural healing/medicine, but people should vaccinate their kids (since there are no side effects) and listen to doctors.
  20. I do too. It’s the kind of stupid, crazy, weird fun that seems to well on the internet (a la marble racing). And like I said, it gives some community members a chance to try some things they’ve wanted to. Just further clarify, should I go for option 2, would you prefer the “athletes” represent Totallympics nations, or be divided by colors available in Minecraft (16 teams).
  21. Okay, being an anti-vax person is one thing, but not believing in surgery I don’t even get that at all. I hate to say it (because he is a good guy), but he cancelled
  22. There’s too many types of idiots to keep track of these days. At this point, I think I could count the non-idiots on my fingers (I’m not included because I to have been (and can be) an idiot at times).
  23. I’m going to just throw this out here, and see what people’s opinions are... So obviously there’s no Olympic this summer. There’s most likely very little international sports this summer. Plus, there’s the probably there’ll be many us stuck at home voluntarily or ordered to. So I can (attempt) to offer the following alternatives: As some of you know, I like to build mock Olympic Parks and Venues in the video game Minecraft. I’ve hours in the game recreating sports, building venues, etc. I would be down to host a virtual form of Olympics (called the Summer Games so the IOC doesn’t chop my head off) with either one of two possibilities - The first is that I would some of you, or other interested players on to the my servers, and we’d just compete amongst ourselves. The second is a little more complex and silly. I’ve been figuring out how to have a “playerless” Summer Games for a while now, and so I’ve come up with ways to have NPCs (non-playable characters) compete in events. I could host the games this way as well, and the NPCs could represent countries with members on Totallympics. Both of these options would come complete with full “live” streaming, results pages, schedule of events, medal tables, games logo, games mascots, etc. I’ve been looking for ways for myself and @Vojthas to get some commentary practice, and I think this would be a fun way to. I welcome everyone’s opinion to this. I will say that I will not bother with any of this unless some interest is shown from the community.
