  1. Also, quick congratulations to Slovakia, what a result @hckošice Of course something good like this was going to happen again at some point, most countries who were once good are rarely really gone forever, but I did not expect it now already, awesome
  2. Which goes to show things like records and such just aren't that important for everyone, at least not compared to personal life
  3. You're up early
  4. That is great, but if I'm not mistaken, the next time January 8th is a Sunday is in 2034, so we might have to wait a while...
  5. Sorry, I don't usually miss out on this one, but it was just too busy everywhere to even open the forum regularly... I hope things will pick up a bit and we might have another one at some point (and meanwhile I see I am still in time to vote for the second stage, so that's great ).
  6. If following the Brazilian federation's published criteria and the way the rankings are made, Jaqueline Mourão and Bruna should be the ones competing in the team sprint at the world championships in Trondheim. Eduarda Ribera ended up in 3rd (criteria are clear: top-2 does the team sprint), and would likely have been 2nd if she had 'simply' done a somewhat decent race last Saturday, the last opportunity before the rankings closed, but somehow they didn't send her there*. * Anyway, whichever way of counting penalties you take, Bruna ended up 1st in the ranking, so she should definitely be in for the Trondheim team sprint (which, in turn, is important towards the Olympics). Now it's a matter of waiting for the federation to actually publish the ranking, their 'rankings' page has been under construction since they moved to a new website, like 2 years ago. https://cbdn.org.br/atletas-ranking/
  7. I know, the speaker mentioned it In the women's mass start you see Bruna in the pack, but at the end of lap 1 you sadly see her pull up and stop the race because of the foot thing.
  8. My first girlfriend was Brazilian, and I already had an interest in winter sports...then I kind of started paying attention to Brazilian winter athletes and long story short, a few years after the relationship ended I started dating a Brazilian winter athlete and here we are, more than 7 years later, living in our home and figuring everything out towards the Olympics
  9. Falcade FESA Cup is ON Just need to make sure the federation registers her in time. They're trying, but they sent it to the wrong email address, even though the correct one is very clearly listed in the easy to find invitation...oh well, I guess it'll work out Bruna will by then be basically the only athlete from a small nation who has competed in every single FESA Cup race this season so far, that's quite nice. It'll end there though, since the 5th and 6th stages (Planica and Premanon in March) seem quite useless for the Olympic points, and not really worth the investment.
  10. Aaaand the aforementioned Gaia Brunello has put down a 36th place in Arber today, 2:35 minutes behind the winner, resulting in 116 IBU points. For World Cup qualification one needs an average of under 150 at the end of a trimester...or one result of under 125 in the current or previous trimester, so if I'm not mistaken, she has immediately qualified for next week's World Cup! Great start. We are definitely hoping she stays in biathlon only and this start helps
  11. And even last season it was already known that this was going to happen, but mostly within Brazilian circles I think
  12. Meanwhile, a bit of a request for help: I have been trying, but if anyone can find the qualification rules for the world championships in Trondheim, specifically the requirements to be allowed to start in all races, that'd be great, I can't find it anywhere yet.. Edit: of course I found it right after asking for help Only remaining question is: does 'current' mean what at that moment is the current list (the 6th FIS points list) or the one that is used for the eligibility for the WSC 2025 as listed on the 'Dates of the lists' document (5th FIS points list)?
  13. Happy New Year to you as well! So, we got back from Oberwiesenthal Sunday night, after an adventurous drive in the snow and a long road back home. It went well there: the classic sprint on Saturday resulted in 314 points, which improved her own position towards the team sprint in the world championships (being in the team sprint is potentially very important towards the Olympics). She beat her main rival by a whopping 11 seconds, so that was awesome. 20k mass start classic on Sunday wasn't that good: in the first of six laps, some athletes around her fell, one of them hit her left foot (the one that got injured in the accident 3 years ago) and that resulted in quite some pain. I was waiting with my drinks in the coaching area, but after the field passed there in lap two, she didn't appear, so I knew something was up. Walked back and saw her walking towards me, then she explained what had happened. The pain after being hit in the foot was too much to keep going for 16km, especially in a race that wouldn't count for the Olympic ranking anyway and was only meant for 'racing rhythm', continueing could do more damage than good. That's a shame, but no problem, the sprint went well and that was WAY more important. Also: the day before the race we went to the Polish wax cabin to ask for help, because she does always need someone to wax her skis and 'Team' Brazil isn't really an option. The Polish very gladly helped (and were paid with a nice 12-pack of beer we brought for that occassion) and the skis were really good, so that was fantastic. Even better: after the mass start, and explaining why being hit in the foot was such a problem and so on, the wax guy - without us even asking - offered to also help at the world championships, and invited her for a training camp with the team in the summer December had gone very well as well, right now (with still this entire season and half of next season to go) she is leading the Brazilian Olympic ranking by a nice margin. Of course many races to come for everyone, but so far, so good! Next option is 17-19 January, FESA Cup in Falcade. Financially it's a bit tough, since that is yet another 2300km with the rental car (with which we already did 1600 now, and we only have 2000 on the contract, so every km outside of it costs 20 cents), plus another accomodation needed. We're looking into the options, because Falcade has a classic sprint AND a 10k freestyle, which is the absolute perfect combination considering those are the things that count for the Olympic ranking. We're trying to scrape enough together, so...we'll keep you updated
  14. Hello from Oberwiesenthal, where there will be FESA Cup races tomorrow and Sunday Spot the Brazilian, I assure you she's on the photo
  15. Still, the men were 7 seconds away from their first relay podium in...26 years?
  16. Another, and this time quite high profile case in the 'technical sport where doping doesnt really help' that is football. I wonder what it will be, 3 months ban?
  17. Any chance one could rewatch these events on YouTube? Such a tragedy Eurosport doesn't do weightlifting anymore And it's not on Eurovisionsports neither.
  18. Aaaaaand it's gone thanks to the slightly older Slind
  19. As I believe you've posted every single season, after commenting on recent results, suggesting enough interest to keep checking the results again and again only to be able to say "I don't care"
  20. world record to finish of these championships
  21. Julia Tannheimer is such an impressive talent.
  22. Yeah, but there as well: are all of these swimmers suddenly the best ever? I know and understand they're good, but it would be an extreme coincidence if in one specific event suddenly a handful of the best ever appear. It 'smells' way more like either some sort of thing with the pool or some sort of new breakthrough in clothing or something like that, some of the margins with which the records are being smashed are truly insane and seem to go way further than just 'ah, first time she raced in a 25m pool I mean, imagine a 20+ WR world championships in athletics, we'd be desperately looking for explanations (like the super shoes in recent years, so at least there is an explanation there)
  23. It's not just Walsh though, WR's are dropping like flies. 8x Gretchen Walsh 3x Summer McIntosh 3x Noè Ponti 2x Jordan Crooks 2x Kate Douglass (and a few single ones plus relays) In 5 days....that is insane. Either something is up with the pool, or no top swimmer has taken short course somewhat serious in the past 20 years or so (which is possible, I guess, but why all of a sudden now? ). It's just a bit odd, and arguably not really great for the image of swimming. Don't get me wrong, still enjoying the event as always
  24. Kinda feels like the Russian athletics championships when they were in Cheboksary and all the Russians had mega performances there (and then not really outside of it) Although to be fair, the World Cup saw tons of WR's as well, so it might feel more like a sort of trend of some new development (hopefully in equipment).
  25. And with some margin in some cases. It's like before this year, nobody took it seriously, it's quite insane to see this many WR's fall...whoever built that pool is incredible
