  1. That's just too bad, based on her times as co-commentator on the official broadcasts she seems awesome.
  2. Guy in the top left apparently isn't, he fell asleep
  3. If they want to make a statement that badly, instead of running away, just win.
  4. Can't wait for Euro 2120 when maybe we'll start seeing less of these "no this is our land!" vs "no this is our land!" things going around in a certain part of Europe (by then it's well over a century ago, surely that'll be long enough?)
  5. It has everything to do with the 80 year war in the 16th-17th century, when the (more or less modern-day) Netherlands got rid of the Spanish Catholic oppression, under the leadership of William the Silent (William of Orange, as he's known here). The Wilhelmus was sort of a political song, in which William was put forward as a true Christian and someone who never betrayed the Spanish (which was important to stress, since that made it clear it was all on the Spanish). Very long story, it's an 80 year war for a reason, but mostly the Wilhelmus was a political thing and saying "I always honoured the Spanish king" was mostly a diplomatic thing
  6. That makes me think of some cheese with some sort of non-descript liquid leaking out of it and now I am properly disgusted, thanks.
  7. It depends on your preferences of course. Flower of Scotland for me is probably number one: it's truly a fighting song, not so old it makes no sense anymore (the Dutch), not just some lame 'our country is the best' thing (USA), just generating a feeling of 'lets go!'. And for singing along, it has a perfect pace, not too fast for example, and indeed, full of emotion I would honestly not want the Dutch anthem to change, but I definitely only like it because I grew up with it and any replacement would not get remotely close to giving the same feeling....if I wasn't Dutch, I'd find it...meh
  8. I would just like to add that a shot (as in, a shot on goal) in Dutch is 'schot'. Whereas a Scotsman is a....'Schot' A Scottish shot, for example, would be a 'Schots schot'
  9. The goal was, but now I am actually curious if it will also count as a shot on goal, since the Scottish player definitely shot towards the goal (straight on the GK if the Swiss foot hadn't been there) Edit: apparently not, 0 shots on goal indeed
  10. Flower of Scotland beats every single 'national anthem' out there by at least 5-0 Goosebumps, every time.
  11. Dear lord, Hungary just brought a massive butcher into the game Dude looks like he eats defenders for breakfast. Unsurprisingly he started with a foul within 5 seconds, in which he didn't even touch the ball
  12. Same for Albania? Just need to beat Spain, not sure what the problem could be
  13. At least not as unbelievably dumb as the Portuguese guy yesterday literally asking to get a yellow (and getting it) by taking off his shirt
  14. Sutalo doing what he's known for and helping the opponent to a goal That's of course besides the rather dubious goalkeeping there.
  15. picked Puck Pieterse, obviously, and.....Anne Terpstra Nothing against her at all, personally I even find it cool because long ago she started in the team of @brunamoura's employer, but I find it hard to understand how Anne Tauber is not selected...
  16. I mostly hope if Portugal scores, it won't be him, not sure I can stand his mannerisms one second longer
  17. Not at all I meant the average level as a whole, of course there are some strong swimmers there
