Damn, the thought of being there in under a year gives me serious butterflies now

Same thing that happened during Trondheim (and probably before, but I hadn't noticed it yet). Start lists for today are out and are, as per usual, on the page that will later show the result: https://www.fis-ski.com/DB/general/results.html?sectorcode=CC&raceid=46840 But instead of only counting them when the start list turns into an actual result, they already count the start list, so to say So, an athlete with bib 1 gets points for the win (temporarily), bib 2 gets points for second place, and so on. That will of course automatically be resolved once we have an actual result later today, but it makes for confusing stuff.

But swimming already has massive participation in terms of countries, wouldn't other sports benefit more from that? I just really don't see how adding the 50's adds anything good, while I do see how it generates an even bigger imbalance between swimming and every other sport. You'd be getting athletes (however rare) with a somewhat decent medal shot in 10+ events, with the huge amount of relays that are there already. That's just out of hand..

Alright, so then which events would be taken out for the 50's to be in*, the 200 meters? There are also plenty of specialists in the longer distances though, who wouldn't be suited to the splash and dash 50's, so that would not really change the overall principle... *not because of scheduling reasons

I caught up with January, February and the first half of March in cycling during the previous one week or so, that was a bit of a challenge as well The cross-country skiing season has taken it's toll on me and my schedule too apparently

To be fair, I thought Coe and Samaranch were the favourites as well but that basically came entirely from Totallympics When I moved outside of the Totallympics bubble for a bit and read on a Dutch forum, people were more or less expecting Coventry, my mind was blown

Right now, F1. Meanwhile in between still catching up with the bobsleigh World Cup, I'm in January or something. Then the same for luge and a few other winter sports. Hopefully I'll get to the athletics this weekend

But...please elaborate: why? Why on earth would it be good to have another medal chance for swimmers, who on average already have an insane amount? Or better: if the 50's are added, which swimming events would be taken out to make place for that?

Aaaaand it's gone. 36 hours into the race, none of the three guys left finished loop 3 yet, so they're out of the chance for a finish. They have until 40 hours, which I believe is about 2 hours from now, to finish the lap and be credited with a Fun Run.

Yeah, but that was entirely expected. Nobody thought Fabris was losing it, considering the last lap was his big weapon every single time. Like in the women's 5k Beune generally starts super fast and Conijn often finishes very fast, which in the end means sometimes one is faster, sometimes the other. Sure gold medals don't exist, by now we should all know that I think Which is good, because the more sure a gold medal is, the less interesting it is to watch and as sports fans, I assume in the end we mostly watch to see exciting competitions.

It is time for the most insane athletics event of the year, the conch has been blown and by now the cigarette has been lit, it's Barkleys time

Which is actually a moot point, since Gina del Rio will probably be Andorra's only athlete anyway. Even if Carola Vila Obiols somehow comes back, which seems unlikely, they'll still easily have two total quotas, that simply can't go wrong anymore (there is a 0% chance of them dropping out of the top-30)

And, you know, athletes need to plan their programs....it's so ridiculous for this to still not be clear barely three years before the Olympics. Athletes should at the very least be going into Olympics already knowing what the program will be for the next.

And that's why it's never nice when someone is so dominant....wins always become 'normal' and anything else is disappointing, leading to no result ever being 'nice' anymore
