So it has yet to be announced, but half of the Zweisimmen-Sparenmoos snow has been melted by Bruna's tears when she called me/us and I gave her the finish times

D-Day, the final day in Olympic qualifying. So, Bruna beat Duda by 3 seconds or so today. She got 279 points, Duda got 307, which brings us to this situation, with only tomorrow's 5k classic to go: Mika is now officially out, she has no theoretical race anymore in which to get her sprint average under 300 and even if she did, she'd be 4th in points anyway. Duda needs to get under 153 points tomorrow to even have a chance. If she scores 153.00 or more, she will end up with more (and so, worse) points than Bruna's current total. That is, of course, if Bruna doesn't improve her 281.10 points. If she does that, Duda will need to get under 153 minus Bruna's improvement. In short, it's looking more than excellent for Bruna.

Meanwhile, this weekend is the deciding one everywhere, so also for Brazil. The current situation: Unless there is some insane miracle, Mika is out. And Jaque is of course in, as she definitely should be. After the Serbian situation, which wasn't as much the federation's fault as we originally thought (so that situation can be rectified), Bruna, Duda and Mika will compete in the Swiss championships in Zweisimmen this weekend, freestyle sprint tomorrow, 5k classic Sunday. The main thing to look at is the fight for the second ticket, Bruna against Duda, with Bruna being 141 points ahead at the moment. With an equal sprint result tomorrow, Duda will make up a maximum of 60 points (since she has a 481 and Bruna a 421 that can be pushed out). If that's the case, Bruna is 81 points ahead after tomorrow's race, which already means Duda would need a 181 classic result even if Bruna doesn't start/finish/score on Sunday. Of course with every point Bruna gets under 281 on Sunday, Duda would need to get under 181 in the classic. Again, that is all in case they come up with equal points tomorrow. It's weird, normally at least FIS has it on their website, but...nothing. Their Olympic schedule is less detailed than that of a Continental Cup And on the official Beijing website, the trial round for the ski jumping is listed, even though - unlike the PCR - that is really nothing more than a training.

Huge favourites....not sure, several teams are simply too strong to mention one single team as the huge favourite in my opinion. But they absolutely should be among the main favourites, no doubt. I went for 6 golds, by the way. M 1000 M 1500/5000/10.000 M team pursuit/mass start W 1000/1500 W 3000/5000 W mass start/team pursuit As always, it can go many ways. We don't need to see any huge surprises to end up with the Netherlands getting 9 gold medals...or 2.

Not without some promise though, to be fair. It's not exactly the heyday of Canadian XC skiing, but I'd say there's hope.

It's on the FIS website now, so I'll count the points. And I was 100% correct Which means this is now the new situation, with that dreadful Engadin horror show finally gone! Mika is 2 points ahead, but doesn't have the sub-300 sprint average and doesn't seem likely to get that, so that shouldn't matter much. Even if somehow she does get it, Bruna still has much more space to improve her results with Zlatibor tomorrow and a sprint and classic in Switzerland in the weekend. Duda still has a 481 sprint she can improve in Switzerland, but if Bruna and Duda score somewhat similar points in the three races that are left, Bruna ends up 80-100 points in front of her anyway. That is, with equal points, but as we saw today it's far from unlikely that Bruna gets better points. At least it's finally back in her own hands now!

If my calculations are correct (and luckily this season so far they generally are), that should result in these points: Jaque 103,36 Bruna 186,36 Mika 218,28 Duda 241,58 Putting Bruna roughly 140 points ahead of Duda in the internal ranking now (I'll wait a little with that until the points are on the FIS website and I enter them in my table)!

All other Brazilians are on there as well (two of whom are still on their way from Poland), which should mean that the federation won't suddenly decide not to count these races. You never know, but that seems good...
