  1. Could still be tied. Sjöstrom will win a medal in 50 fly while Hosszu will win a medal in 400 IM. Sjöstrom has also a shot in the 50 free.
  2. Age-wise you could be right ...
  3. I think they will win one or two minor medals in men's 100 fly and men's 400 IM. Maybe Kesely can challenge for a medal in the 800 free. Before the start of this competition i expected them to win 3 golds (men's 200 fly, women's 200 IM, women's 400 IM), one silver/bronze (men's 100 fly) and two bronze (men's 200 fly, men's 400 IM), so until now they basically have 1 bronze less than expected (men's 200 fly), but 1 more gold than expected (women's 200 fly). Somehow Hungary always finds a way to not disappear. I thought they would drop off badly after 2020 when Hosszu/Cseh retire, but then Milak and Kesely came along and now they have a great future again.
  4. Reminds me of the relation between Yiddish and German ...
  5. Another sad day for german swimming. Hentke missed bronze by 0.26 seconds and Heintz missed bronze by 0.08 seconds. With Ledecky back i don't see Köhler winning a medal in the 800 free and Wellbrock probably won't even make the final in his current shape. For now i will remain hopeful for next year, Wellbrock should be a medal contender in 2-3 events and Köhler could also challenge for some medals, in addition to that Heintz, Selin and Hentke could also become medal contenders depending on how the next 12 months go. I am hoping for 4 medals in pool events and 1 or 2 open water medals, which would be 5/6 more medals than in 2016 and 4/5 more medals than in 2012.
  6. Especially because this might have been his only chance to own the world record, from tomorrow on Chupkov will own it.
  7. How is no medal in the 100 free final a big shock? I would say at least 90 % of people expected Dressel, Chalmers and Grinev to win the medals.
  8. I think the nerves got to them (i don't think either of them has even been medal favorite at a major competition) + i don't get why you would swim 2:05 in prelims when 2:10 gets you to the semifinal.
  9. Chalmers with Dressel's start -> At least 46.6
  10. I have to agree, the last time you would have won gold with that time was in 1998! We can already say that this will be by far the weakest event of the whole competition. Hentke choked once again, Belmonte isn't in shape and both american also choke. Every year you have some new 16 or 17 yo girl who goes 2:07 or 2:06 but then they just stop progressing. I think Regan Smith could win this event next year. I don't see any chance that it won't take at least 2:05 low to win gold in Tokyo and i don't see Kapas getting there given her age. Sadly Szilagy never developed as expected after her breakthrough in 2014.
  11. Watching women's 200 fly makes me so sad. With this time you shouldn't even win gold at junior worlds. The fact that Kapas won gold says it all, she probably can't believe her luck. Also the usual choke from Hentke, based on her training times she should have gone way under 2:06, at least she got it right in 2017. Congrats to Hungary still, i really believe they have the potential for 3 swimming golds in Tokyo and even after that (when Hosszu retired) they will have at least 2 medal contenders in Kesely and Milak.
  12. Thrid completely unnecessary loss for the german team, very sad. This team could have done something special.
  13. Nice, hope that Baehre can join them, although he is really slow. Would be nice if Germany could have 1 athlete with the standard in every field event, but hammer throw will be the problem. Guttormsen looked really good, i see him jumping 5.90 or 5.95 next year.
  14. Maybe we will see a miracle in the 50 free ...
  15. Maybe Seto will focus on the IM's where he could actually win more than bronze. There are a bunch of guys besides Burdisso who could swim in that 1:52 high or 1:53 low range, for example Kenderesi and Horomura. I think bronze will be between Burdisso and Kenderesi. Would make absolutely no sense for Urlando to switch, he can easily make the US team and the US is a much bigger market + he clearly sees himself as american. Italy is in a good spot, it was already pointless to add Condorelli to the team. Must suck for italian talents that someone like Condorelli was chosen ahead of them. You would think that Pellegrini finally has to slow down, but she seems to be able to stay at that 1:54 level a bit longer. I don't think she can go faster than that, which might be what you'll need to medal in 2020 against Ruck, Titmus, Ledecky, McKeon, Haughey.
  16. Given his 800 free time i consider Paltrinieri untouchable in the 1500 free, the world Record should Go down. I still think Wellbrock is the Most likely to Beat him next year, but Paltrinieri has a clear Headstart. Quadarella Could go 15:30 in the 1500 free next year, but if Ledecky is at her best, then it still should only be enough for Silver. I think Quadarella can Go around 8:12 Here and if she keeps improving at the same Rate she did the last couple of years, then she could go 8:08 or so next year, which could seriously trouble Ledecky. Burdisso could have a Shot at Bronze behind Milak and Urlando.
  17. Same is true for womens discus and womens 400 m.
  18. Maybe he was talking about the world records in mens 200 free, mens 800 Free or womens 200 fly... I think everyone who follows swimming thought that either this year or next year Milak or Urlando would break this record.
  19. Don't see any realistic chances for Quadarella, Detti or Pellegrini, but if Wellbrock stops progressing, then Paltrinieri could become double olympic champion. Not sure if you are serious about "but yeah, we could easily end up without any gold medal...", but if not, then would you be interested in a bet?
  20. 1) Why should he swim the prelims if he doesn't think he can medal (considering that he already knows where he is at after the relays)? 2) How is Yang bad now? He has been bad in the 800 free for years, noone ever expected him to medal in this event.
  21. In the women's 800 free we have Smith and Titmus and maybe Ledecky. In the men's 1500 free we have Wellbrock and Romanchuk who can both beat Paltrinieri if they are at their best.
  22. Might have something to do with the fact that Scott has a better medal chance in the 200 IM ...
  23. Will be interesting to see if Italy can win a swimming gold medal in Tokyo? I only see Paltrinieri defending his title(s).
  24. Ok ... how exactly are your women going to win 10 medals by themselves? 100 back + 200 back + 100 fly + 200 IM + 400 IM + 2-3 relays -> 7-8 medals Theoretically Canada could also win medals in 50 fly, 50 back, 200 breast or 100 free, but in the last 2 events canadian athletes aren't favorites for a medal, so it is very possible that Canada ends up with "only" 9 medals on the women's side, so i am not sure why you act as if there is a guarantee that canadian women will win at least 10 medals.
