Benolympique this NOC's website is beyond useless. The only thing I've been able to find is a news agency report from the country. This refers to 17 berths but I'm certain that they are counting the fact that their swimmer has qualified for two events as separate "berths". I think we can be pretty sure their number of athletes is 16 which is how many they actually name.

I’m not sure what you’re asking but I suspect you’re asking about the make of the British and Irish rugby and hockey teams?

People from Northern Ireland are included in the hockey squads for both Ireland and GB

There are no people from Northern Ireland in either rugby squad, but Max McFarland of GB is an Irish citizen and qualified for Scotland through his grandfather.

    Also, none of this matters.

Benolympique hold fire on this. I realise I've miscounted the number of artistic swimmers by 7 reducing the total to 181. The numbers you have add up to 183 but the number of swimmers on the team appears to be 15 not 17 excluding the two marathon swimmers which you have recorded separately.

The information is on the  NOC website and describes it as the final team. It doesn't quote any numbers, just the names of the athletes. The total I've given is a result of my addition and should be checked by someone else to make sure I've got it right.

Reminds me of the late Canadian snooker player Bill Werbenuik.
    Edit
"Werbeniuk was noted for the copious amounts of alcohol he consumed before and during matches – at least six pints before a match and then one pint for each frame. In total, he drank between 40 and 50 pints of lager per day. Doctors advised Werbeniuk to drink alcohol to counteract a familial benign essential tremor. Later in his career he also took propranolol, a beta blocker, to cope with the effects of his alcohol consumption on his heart.

Werbenuik was reported to have successfully claimed the cost of 6 pints of lager before every match as a tax deductible expense. Some of Werbeniuk's most famous feats of drinking include: 76 cans of lager during a game with John Spencer in Australia in the 1970s; 43 pints of lager in a snooker match/drinking contest against Scotsman Eddie Sinclair in which, after Sinclair had passed out following his 42nd pint, Werbeniuk was reported to say "I'm away to the bar now for a proper drink"; 28 pints of lager and 16 whiskies over the course of 11 frames during a match against Nigel Bond, in January 1990 – after which Werbeniuk then consumed an entire bottle of Scotch to "drown his sorrows" after losing the match."

Really, then how do you explain the participation of all the other countries? Why is the number of Commonwealth countries continuing to grow?

The CWG has proven a great arena for athletes to experience a large multi-sport event and to learn how to cope with living and performing in the village environment. It has certainly been a great stepping stone to the OG for sportsmen from many countries. Perhaps if Italian sport had something similar it might appreciate the value of the Games both intrinsically and as a nursery for the greatest stage of all.

And yet oddly it attracts large numbers of spectators and produces many athletes who go on to success at world and olympic level.

Of course you don’t miss it;  is the largest & most underperforming nation in the history of Commonwealth sports. I agree that the CG does not mean as much as it did 40 years ago, but it is still a vital stepping stone to full World & Olympic level/

You can consider it 373 already. Colombia will choose 64kg almost undoubtedly unless Mercedez is injured. Solis in 76kg is recovering from injury and lifted 247kg in -81kg non Olympic category at Pan Ams. She has competition from Dekha, Zavala closeby with Neisi at 261kg long way ahead.

But Mercedez will go for gold 234 in pan ams with 238 pb just 2kg below Charron of Canada. No Real contenders for gold - silver hence it's easily gonna be 64kg with the exception of doping / injury
