  1. Asia went from 2 to 2+host in 2020. The host quota not being tied to any continent is a common tactic for many sports and I thought FIFA figured that out, but I guess not. It's not like Africa and South America needed two quotas each, even having them share a second quota is already generous
  2. The IOC doesn't want to increase athlete quotas, we are more likely to see a decrease in the men's event to 12 than an increase in the women's to 16.
  3. A second direct South American team is also pushing it, even if it was a formality to defeat the African team in the inter-continental qualifier
  4. Yeah, the top 16 teams got a bye to the tournament while the rest had to qualify, but if you qualified you automatically qualified to the knock-out round and are against the group winners.
  5. With no Russia, expect a lot of medals to be won by other nations. is third after the qualification round in the women's duet technical. It's also dumb that Canada hasn't competed in the duets here (or at the World Cups). There's a good chance we'll fail to qualify a team to the Olympics and I don't think it will be a good idea to try and scramble a routine to qualify in the duets (though on paper we should qualify relatively easily).
  6. They are a new pair, but to be fair Brandie did make the quarterfinals at the Olympics
  7. Two Brazilians down, one left to go for Pavan/Melissa. ended up being the only nation with two entries in the quarters on the women's side. Though when that happened at the Olympics both lost in the quarterfinals
  8. Hoping for Liendo and McIntosh to have a great performance, same for Ruck hope she can get over the mental block in the individual events, though on paper I don't think she will medal, her goal should be getting into the finals.

  14. Yeah, that's a strong quadrant. Hoping for Pavan/Melissa to make it through, but they could easily lose at any round. Also cheering for the McNamara twins, always felt they can have a breakout year at any time.
  15. This is the first direct qualifier to the 2024 Summer Olympics (though triathlon will finish first). The top 2 teams will qualify. This is different from previous Olympics as we hosted a separate Olympic qualifier. The United States are the defending champions (from 2018, 2020 edition was cancelled), but have missed the last three Olympics. No doubt Mexico will be a favourite to grab one of the spots. Honduras will try to keep its Olympic streak alive by qualifying to a fifth straight Olympics. Other nations with a chance to qualify include Canada, Costa Rica, El Salvador and Panama.
  16. It kind of needs to be. While Whistler is just outside of Metro Vancouver and is often included as an honorary member, Sun Peaks is almost a five hour drive.
  17. Yeah, eights is one of the events I look forward to watching at the Olympics. It doesn't help that the event struggles to attract more than 10 nations at the World Cup/Championship level. If one of the requirements is for the event to have "universal appeal" it's not hard to claim that eights does not have that.
  18. Not a good start for Canada. For us to have any chance at qualifying to the Olympics we need to be ranked at least 11th. These losses don't help our chances. The women have had a good start, but they'll need a few upsets to reach an Olympic qualification position.

  20. The United States has a great chance at qualifying via the World Championships, but should they fail, I'd give a chance at the 2023 Nations Cup (assuming none of them qualifies at the World Championships/Nations Cup themselves). Groups A and B will probably have 9-10 teams qualified by then (I think only Australia can take a World quota if not someone from the Americas) so the quality level will be lower. Of course someone good from Europe could be unlucky and mess things up for us.
