  1. Some days I like to imagine a 192-team World Cup. Screw logistics and the time it would take to complete. I want a true World Cup Sorry for the 19 or so teams which won't participate.
  2. Watch them lose to Cameroon and Switzerland win and they finish second in the group
  3. If it wasn't for a bad run at the Olympics she could have medaled.
  4. I'm of the opinion that an entrant must actually win a match for them to be eligible for a medal. I guess the athlete technically did win due to DSQ.
  5. I'll have to wait until after work to watch, hopefully I don't get spoiled.
  6. Yeah, artistic swimming/FINA has seen the writing on the wall for a long time. While everything is now balance in terms of total athletes there are still imbalances within sports with football, Greco-Roman wrestling and water polo having more men and artistic swimming and rhythmic gymnastics having more women. The push for equality in the men's events has slowly created a counter push for equality in the women's events which now holds more ground given the equal overall athlete quotas. Any reduction of men's quotas (or increase of women's quotas) will have to be met with a counter response on the women's side. Artistic swimming has done a lot of work in preparation for when the IOC drops the hammer. If the IOC ever decides to grant women's water polo the extra 22 quotas, I expect to see artistic swimming flip to mixed duets and teams (with teams of 6/7 women and 2/1 men). Rhythmic gymnastics on the other hand has done nothing, maybe they expect football to always be imbalanced?
  7. That would ruin the 50/50 gender split for the Olympics so I think it will be unlikely unless they compensate it elsewhere.
  8. Not surprised that the United States is on an entirely different level than the rest of the continent. My prediction was them winning 9/12 quotas and they did even better by winning 10. In addition to their performance at the World Championships, they now have maximum quotas in five events (men's trap & skeet and women's 50m rifle, 10m rifle & skeet) so at least the rest of us now have a chance at qualifying. With the 2023 World Championships scheduled before the 2023 Pan American Games, we could also see the United States qualify their second quota in women's trap.
  9. Yeah, South Sudan has made basketball a priority ever since it became an independent nation. It's nice to see their efforts paying off.
  10. Lucky for you, skeet is one of the events in which we get four qualifiers and the United States has already won one quota.
  11. Grau with a big mistake, he may not make the final.
  12. fails to reach the Cup Quarterfinals. Also, went from defeating in one match only to lose to in the next. They also missed the Cup Quarterfinals. The Cup Quarterfinals is as follows v v v v
  13. Up to 6th after four rotations and cut the deficit to 0.566 so he has a chance. Still no way he closes the gap, right?
  14. I imagine they will retest her Olympic sample. There's not a lot of time between the Olympics and that incident.
  15. For example, if we went by last season's results, Canada and Japan (along with no promotion for Uruguay) would have been relegated. I can tell you now the men's team funding would have been cut by more than it already has. Japan might still get funding due to being a favourite for an Olympic quota, but probably a lot less. I fear for what would happen to nations like Kenya or Samoa who have had bad seasons in the past. It could kill their program if they are not in the top level.
  16. This is a very poor move and will create a further gap between the top nations and the rest. Even if we assume the Challenger Series will have a proper schedule (say 6 stops), funding for the national teams will be a big issue. Some of the core teams are already struggling and it will be more so because nobody wants to heavily fund a "division II" team.
  17. Only one round robin match to start the tournament. with a big win over . This puts in a tough spot as they now much defeat if they want to get out of the group stage. The combined team was easily defeated by . It may take some time for them to become cohesive.
  18. With the 2022-23 season set to begin, the top men’s rugby sevens teams will have more of an incentive to perform well with Olympic quotas on the line. Along with the overall series title, the top four nations will also qualify a spot to the 2024 Olympics. The 2022-23 Men’s World Series will consist of 11 stops, up two from last season. Hong Kong (adding two stops, including the first which starts today), Australia (Sydney), New Zealand (Hamilton) and South Africa (Cape Town) are all returning after missing the last two season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The United Arab Emirates (Dubai) will only host one event this season while Spain (Malaga and Seville) has been completely dropped. See the current schedule below. The other big change is the amalgamation of England, Scotland and Wales into a single Great Britain team. Due to this, Japan avoided relegation while the 2022 Challenger Series winner, Uruguay will join the series as one of the 15-nation core team for the very first time. The other core nations include Argentina, Australia, Canada, Fiji, France, Ireland, Kenya, New Zealand, Samoa, South Africa, Spain and the United States. Each tournament will consist of 16 teams, the core teams plus one invited team where the winner of the cup obtains 22 points. Second place gets 19 points, third 17 points decreasing down to 1 point for the joint 15th place finishers. At the end of the series, the nation with the most points will be the title winner along with the top 4 qualifying to the Olympics. The defending series champion is Australia who despite only winning a single event was the most consistent nation where they finished in the top four in 7/9 stops. They were closely followed by South Africa and defending World and Olympic champions Fiji. Olympic qualification will be hotly contested. Along with the above three teams, Argentina had a great season and won bronze at the Olympics. A qualification through the World Series here would make the continental qualifier more interesting with Uruguay and Chile looking to take advantage. Perennial powerhouse New Zealand will also seek to return to the top after missing out in the first half of the previous season. Ireland, bronze medalist from the World Cup could be considered a dark horse along with the newly combined power of Great Britain.
  19. Costa Rica, El Salvador there are many examples of nations which don't use their English names. For Turkiye and Qazakhstan the only difference is the spelling, they are still pronounced the same way.
  20. Projected Scores After 5/6 Rotations - 255.526 - 254.461 - 247.994 - 246.192 - 245.428 - 244.894 (+1) - 241.196 (-1) - 233.761
