  1. Yeah that would be like saying athletes which do not compete at every World Cup event do not care about the sport.
  2. Here's the situation with three days remaining, comparing to 2020. Sport 2020 2024 Athletics 6 3 Boxing - 1 Canoeing 2 - Cycling 2 - Diving 1 1 Fencing - 1 Football 1 - Gymnastics - 1 Judo 2 1 Rowing 2 1 Rugby Sevens - 1 Softball 1 - Swimming 6 8 Taekwondo - 1 Tennis - 1 Weightlifting 1 1 Total 24 21 We are three medals away from matching out total medal count of 2020 (which was a non-boycott record). Technically two medals since we are guaranteed one in beach volleyball. Cycling is going to let us down this time so we are going to rely on other sports. I'm hoping athletics and canoeing can bring it home, but we do have other opportunities. Here are our remaining chances (some better than others). Athletics - Men's 800m Athletics - Men's 4x100m Relay Athletics - Women's 4x400m Relay Athletics - Women's Shot Put Breaking - B-Boys Canoeing - Women's C1 200m Canoeing - Women's C2 500m Cycling - Women's Individual Sprint Diving - Men's 10m Platform Volleyball - Women's Beach Volleyball Wrestling - Women's Freestyle Events I also have a soft spot for women's duet artistic swimming, but that might be really pushing it.
  3. Yeah, not looking good for we'll see if it was just a temporary tweak. Might be down to
  4. No doubt there will be some adjustments from the wrestlers and we'll probably see athletes still cut a couple of kilos for each competition, but it will at least get rid of these extreme scenarios.
  5. I agree with their logic. Wrestlers cutting down their weight so rapidly is very unhealthy and this isn't a small amount, she cut around 13%. Wrestlers should compete near their actual weight, so in her case, 57kg.
  6. I know everyone likes to be doom and gloom, but we still have something like 15 chances (> 10%) remaining for medals. Let's give it a few more days before calling this the worst games ever
  7. That was hard to watch. She was in so much pain. The North Korean did what she needed to do to win.
  8. Another update, now that were just about the half-way point in terms of total medals to be awarded. Sport 2020 2024 Athletics 6 1 Boxing - 1 Canoeing 2 - Cycling 2 - Diving 1 1 Fencing - 1 Football 1 - Gymnastics - 1 Judo 2 1 Rowing 2 1 Rugby Sevens - 1 Softball 1 - Swimming 6 8 Tennis - 1 Weightlifting 1 - Total 24 17 I don't expect as many medals in the second half of the Olympics, but we are still on a good pace. We failed to match our 2020 performance in judo and rowing, but we exceeded our performance in swimming despite not winning any relay medals. The sports to look for going into the second half will be athletics, canoeing and cycling, but I expect we will have chances in a handful of other sports.
  9. Trump is all about image, the 2028 Olympics will be held unless the IOC is dumb enough to attack him.
  10. Cricket in Peru? Wonder where they'll host it...
  11. I think so, we still have plenty of chances. My original prediction was around 25 medals and I don't see why we can't reach that.
  12. Now that we are done a full week, let's compare our performance relative to 2020. Sport 2020 2024 Athletics 6 - Canoeing 2 - Cycling 2 - Diving 1 1 Fencing - 1 Football 1 - Gymnastics - 1 Judo 2 1 Rowing 2 - Rugby Sevens - 1 Softball 1 - Swimming 6 5 Tennis - 1 Weightlifting 1 - Total 24 11 Obviously some sports (athletics, canoeing, cycling, weightlifting) haven't started or barely started so there isn't much to comment. Additionally, softball isn't held this time, but the medal won at rugby sevens sort of replaces that. One thing I've noticed is we've won medals in four sports (fencing, gymnastics, rugby sevens, tennis) in which we didn't medal in 2020. In diving, we already matched our performance in 2020 so anything more in the individual events would be a bonus. In football, we've reached the quarterfinals and are still in the hunt for a medal. The match against Germany will be tough, but if we can beat France then we have a chance. Even if we do fail we also have a chance in basketball so we may end up matching our team sport medals Judo unfortunately will likely see a decrease in medals won. There's still the mixed team, but I don't fancy our chances. Rowing we only have one boat remaining in the medal hunt so we are going to perform worse than expected. It will be worse if our women's eights fail to medal too. With some medal chances tomorrow I feel confident we will at least match our swimming total. McIntosh has replaced our relay team dropping to fourth. Things were looking a bit dicey, but medals from Kharun and Masse has turned this into an okay showing. Personally I was expecting 6-8 medals.
  13. Since the program is different relative to 2020, I usually like to compare to which events have been completed in both editions. Using the current completed events, Canada in 2020 would have had 1G-3S-3B. We are down one medal. Unsurprisingly, swimming is behind. So is judo, but they could go even once the program is completed.
  14. Women's team gymnastics is another low chance. We could have a repeat of the 2022 World Championships where everyone else choked.
  15. I agree, the logical thing to do was to either deduct 3 points or actually disqualify us. FIFA just assumed France would get the job done and eliminate us, forgetting that Canada actually has a decent record at the Olympics (unlike the World Cup). Of course, we still need a win against Colombia to advance. Then our quarterfinal opponent will likely be Germany.
  16. Soccer Canada coaching staff (and maybe executives) are going to get cleaned out. I wonder how long Toronto FC keeps John Herdman. Right now he denies everything, but only time will tell. Now that Canada has a path to the knockout round I wonder if FIFA regrets only deducting six points. I imagine the other teams will be unhappy should we end up winning a medal.
  17. Assuming you are in Toronto 5am makes the most sense, both swimming and gymnastics start. As a west coaster I'll probably start 5:30am Pacific, maybe a little earlier to watch a little bit of fencing.
  18. I forgot Smith was doing the 100m butterfly so she's probably out of the relay. MacNeil and McIntosh would have to pull double duty with only around 1 hour rest. I feel confident MacNeil will, but I'm not 100% sure on McIntosh. She has a long schedule, but she does have a day off on the next day so it's possible. Overall the heat will probably be Oleksiak/Harvey/Douthwright/Ruck and then drop the slowest 1 or 2 for MacNeil/McIntosh for the final.
