  1. That was one exciting 5k Achtereekte missing out by 0.03 and Conijn by 0.13. Conijn also missed out on the 3k by 0.01.
  2. His only hope is Roest and Krol both qualifying. None of the other guys have a chance. And even then he’s not sure as there’s someone missing for the team pursuit next to Roest/Kramer (maybe Bergsma) and the mass start next to Bergsma. I think Bosker would be a good one for both teams.
  3. Krol, Otterspeer and Verbij qualified on the men’s 1.000m. First ever qualification for Otterspeer near the end of his career. Nuis fails to qualify. He must have flashbacks to 2010 and 2014 when he was also one of the favorites to qualify and he missed out. Bad news for someone like N’tab that Otterspeer qualified over Nuis.
  4. One more race on the men’s 1.000m. A 1:07.64 might not be enough for Nuis to qualify as the reining champion. This level is insane.
  5. Naah, don’t think so. They’ll both go to Beijing and the 1.000m is the last distance Antoinette will skate in Beijing after a rest day after the team pursuit. So I guess she will skate herself. But yeah, Michelle would be a great replacement if she’s too tired after all these distances.
  6. 8 different women in the matrix so far. If Schouten OR A. de Jong OR Achtereekte qualifies on the 5.000m, then the women’s team will be complete. The mass start team will 99% sure be Schouten and Groenewoud. The team pursuit team will most likely consist of A. de Jong, Schouten and Wüst with Achtereekte as a reserve. Based on the season so far, that would definitely be the strongest team, so I’m happy!
  7. De Jong and Wüst also qualified, two skaters who had already qualified on another distance.
  8. Groenewoud qualified on the 1.500m That means she’ll most likely start on the mass start as well as reigning World Champion.
  9. Would be a surprise as the short track relay final will be on the same day, with the relay final being right before the 500m.
  10. Kramer will go. They will give him a spot for the team pursuit if he doesn't qualify based on the matrix. That's what I think.
  11. Verbij finished 3rd, N'tab 2nd.
  12. This happened. Schouten, De Jong and Achtereekte are the top 3.
  13. Carlijn Achtereekte leads the 3.000m by 0.01 in front of youngster Merel Conijn with one pair to go. Conijn might miss the Olympics on 0.01.
  14. We’ve just unwrapped our Christmas presents, now we’re watching speed skating with the family before having Christmas dinner together. Typical Dutch Christmas
  15. This is looking good for Kramer Edit: spoke too soon. Snellink!
  16. Hahaha, you're right. Speedskatingresults.com was throwing me off. https://speedskatingresults.com/index.php?p=3&e=24596&r=20003 Could be the suits, or maybe he's finally found a way to be in his best shape in the second half of the season.
  17. Patrick Roest skated a 3:35 on a 3.000m during a training competition in Heerenveen. That looks like a world record to me, but I'm not sure.
  18. I'm not @heywoodu, but I can answer this too. Professional sports can continue, but without spectators. So the trials will be held, just in an empty skating hall. EDIT: Sorry, for some reason I totally missed the posts on this page and did not notice heywoodu had already replied.
  19. He still lost though
  20. In 2018. Norway gave up an event quota in the men's 500m and the quota from Russia were taken away because of the doping scandal. Four reserves replaced them. So keep your hopes up.
  21. Some countries only have 1 skater who met the qualification time. So let's say Marten Liiv or Cornelius Kersten gets injured/COVID or they decide to focus only on the 1.000m (unlikely), then there's no one from Estonia or GB who can replace him on the 500m. In that case, the quota will go to Nil Llop. On the 1.000m the same can happen with Mathias Vosté, Marten Liiv, Cornelius Kersten or potentially someone from .
  22. In theory, there is a chance, but in practice I don't see that happen, unfortunately for Nil Llop.
  23. You were a little quicker haha
  24. 17 event quotas (3x 500m/1000m/1500m/5000m, 2x 10000m/Mass Start + team pursuit), but only 9 skater quotas, so a maximum of 9 different Dutch male skaters can go to Beijing to compete. Today the national ice skating association (KNSB) has published how they will determine which 9 skaters will go. Once again, the Dutch association asked scientists from the University of Groningen to come up with these matrices. The matrix shows the selection order for the skater quotas, based on the distances on which the mathematicians believe the Dutch have the highest chance of earning a gold medal in Beijing. The top 6 highest ranked skaters in the final matrix will always go. It is very likely that the 7th and 8th highest ranked skater will also go and that the national association will select the number 9th based on who they think is the best fit for either the team pursuit or the mass start and who is not already part of the top 8 skaters. Selection order Men Women 1 #1 1.000m #1 5.000m 2 #1 5.000m #1 Mass Start 3 #1 1.500m #1 3.000m 4 #2 1.000m #2 3.000m 5 #1 10.000m #1 500m 6 #1 Mass Start #1 1.000m 7 #2 1.500m #1 1.500m 8 #1 500m #2 5.000m 9 #3 1.000m #2 1.500m 10 #3 1.500m #2 1.000m 11 #2 5.000m #3 3.000m 12 #2 10.000m #3 1.500m 13 #2 500m #3 1.000m 14 #3 5.000m #2 500m 15 #3 500m #3 500m For example, if we fill in the matrixes based the results of the national championships that were held in the last week of October, then they would select the following skaters: Selection order Men Women 1 Kai Verbij Irene Schouten 2 Jorrit Bergsma Irene Schouten 3 Thomas Krol Irene Schouten 4 Hein Otterspeer Antoinette de Jong 5 Jorrit Bergsma Jutta Leerdam 6 Bart Hoolwerf Jutta Leerdam 7 Kjeld Nuis Antoinette de Jong 8 Kai Verbij Sanne in 't Hof 9 Thomas Krol Ireen Wüst 10 Chris Huizinga Femke Kok 11 Patrick Roest Carlijn Achtereekte 12 Patrick Roest Jutta Leerdam 13 Dai Dai N'tab Ireen Wüst 14 Marwin Talsma Femke Kok 15 Hein Otterspeer Michelle de Jong Green = 100% sure based on results during trials, Yellow = very likely based on trials, but could potentially be replaced by another skater to improve the team pursuit/mass start team, Red = will probably be replaced, Black = not qualified based on trials, but can be manually selected by the national association. Grey = also fills in a higher spot in the matrix, so this result doesn't count
