  1. had 36 top 8 placements with only 41 athletes in Beijing, probably in part due to the impossible qualification standards for Dutch athletes in certain sports 7th WOG in a row where finished top 10 in the medal ranking, but only the first time ever where we won medals in 3 different sports during the same winter olympic games
  2. Congrats and @hckošice I can't imagine how much this means to you and, based on your posts here, how much it must mean for the whole country. Deserved win and an amazing medal, especially after the rough start of this tournament.
  3. At the end of the speed skating tournament, this is the final medal table. Rank NOC Gold Silver Bronze Total 2022 Total 2018 Total 2014* 1. Netherlands 6 4 2 12 16 23 2. Sweden 2 0 0 2 0 0 3. Canada 1 3 1 5 2 2 3. Japan 1 3 1 5 6 0 5. Norway 1 0 2 3 4 0 5. United States of America 1 0 2 3 1 0 7. Belgium 1 0 0 1 1 0 7. China 1 0 0 1 1 1 9. South Korea 0 2 2 4 7 2 10. Italy 0 1 2 3 1 0 11. ROC 0 1 1 2 1 3 12. Czech Republic 0 0 1 1 2 2 * Mass Start was introduced as an Olympic event in Pyeongchang, therefore there were 6 medals less in 2014. Some facts: 8 different countries divided the 14 golden medals among them of which 2 Asian, 2 North American and 4 European countries. In both 2014 and 2018, there were only 5 different countries with at least one golden medal in speed skating. All countries that won a medal in 2018 also won a medal in Beijing. Only is new in the list this time around. won only half the amount of medals they won 8 years ago. These are the third consecutive Olympic Games in which did not win a speed skating medal. They won 4 medals in Vancouver, 3 in Turin, and 8 in Salt Lake City. also hasn't won a medal since 2014 when they won 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze.
  4. SCHOUTEN! What a deserved winner. Queen of the speed skating tournament with 3 golden and 1 bronze medal.
  5. Two Koreans on the podium as well
  6. Verbij stood no chance, there’s no doubt about that. However, he could have messed up Dubreuil’s race as well by trying trying to save his own, either by speeding up and unsuccessfully trying to change lanes hindering Dubreuil, or by only holding back at the end of the change over forcing Dubreuil to enter the corner in an unpleasant manner at such high speeds. Both would’ve led to a disqualification of Verbij, but most likely also to Dubreuil finishing outside the podium places.
  7. Krol! Also very happy for Dubreuil and Lorentzen! Surprising podium. and also in the top 10
  8. It took until the very last event of this short track tournament for to win their first short track gold medal of the games.
  9. Takagi and Herzog both incredibly fast so early in the competition.
  10. China advanced because they fell. What a joke. China will win gold in the mens relay, even if they would have to disqualify all other teams.
  11. Ghiotto missed the birth of his daughter in Italy so he could skate the 10k during the World Cup in Stavanger, which was his only option to qualify for the 10k today in Beijing. Must have been tough for him. Great to see Davide win the bronze medal here.
  12. Van der Poel! Ghiotto also on the podium!
  13. Even if she can defend her title in front of her friends and family?! Congrats to Italy btw
  14. on top of the medal table for at least a few minutes
  15. Kongshaug in 4th is probably the biggest surprise
  16. The Americans are disappointing again. Dawson has an excuse as he only arrived in Beijing this morning, but skaters like Bowe and Mantia are underperforming. Not the first time this happens at the Olympics.
  17. Tomorrow we have the men's 1.500m starting two hours later than the other races so far. This will probably be one of the most competitive distances with about 8 realistic favorites for the medals and even more outsiders. My prediction: Thomas Krol Joey Mantia Ning Zhongyan Kim Min-Seok Kjeld Nuis Connor Howe Seitaro Ichinohe Allan Dahl Johansson Takuro Oda Peder Kongshaug Bart Swings Kristian Ulekleiv Daniil Aldoshkin Emery Lehman Sergey Trofimov Mathias Vosté Dmitry Morozov Cornelius Kersten Wang Haotian Casey Dawson Tyson Langelaar Alessio Trentini Marcel Bosker Lian Ziwen Park Seong-Hyeon Peter Michael Antoine Gélinas-Beaulieu Haralds Silovs Ruslan Zakharov
