  1. I think the Big 5 now can claim the hosting if Ukraine rejects it. As finished second, I won’t be surprised we’re going to a large city in the UK if they are willing to host it.
  2. received on average 11,256 points per country from the public That means 12 points from almost all countries.
  3. Is she allowed to wear it? Albania was one of my pre-contest favorites, but this performance was… interesting?
  4. Camera work has been quite poor so far. Loads of weird shots.
  5. Welcome! There is indeed a clock in ski jumping. If you really want to know the details of the clock in ski jumping, you can look at section 415.4 of the International Competition Rules as published in the FIS website. https://assets.fis-ski.com/image/upload/v1639755981/fis-prod/assets/ICR_Ski_Jumping_2022_clean.pdf
  6. Now that’s a surprise! A Dutch medal in foil?
  7. The tournament will be hosted by and now according to the Polish PM. https://www.reuters.com/lifestyle/sports/poland-slovenia-host-world-championship-says-polish-pm-2022-04-14/
  8. Third Dutch World Champion in a row on the women's 500m: 2019: Lara van Ruijven (rest in peace) 2021: Suzanne Schulting 2022: Xandra Velzeboer
  9. In his quarterfinal heat on the men's 500m, Oleg Handei got a standing ovation from the sold-out stadion when his name was announced. And then, against all odds, he finished 2nd in the quarterfinal, finishing right behind Dubois, but in front of a German, Italian and South Korean skater.
  10. Schulting is also out due to COVID. At the previous world championships she won 5 gold medals which she now cannot defend. With Fontana also out , I assume it will be between Choi and Boutin in front of her home crowd on the women’s side?
  11. Angel Daleman is turning 15 this month and will still be a junior when the 2026 Olympics are happening. She's also by far the biggest Dutch talent in long-track speed skating. Last month, she won the Junior B championships (15/16 years as of 01/07/2021) over 500m, 1.000m, 1.500m and 3.000m (), while she is still a C-junior (13/14 years as of 01/07/2021). Of course that means she is also the B-junior national sprint champion and national alround champion (by 3.5 points, an amazing gap you almost never see). Right now she's combining both sports, but we'll have to see if she decides to focus on one.
  12. It's sad that athletes suffer from what their governments are doing, but understandable in this case. The impact of Belarus being banned on the tournament is not really big though.
  13. won't compete in next week's World Championships in Hamar as they can't fly to Norway due to travel restrictions. This will mainly have a significant impact on the sprint championships where Russians on both the male and female side were among the title favorites.
  14. had 36 top 8 placements with only 41 athletes in Beijing, probably in part due to the impossible qualification standards for Dutch athletes in certain sports 7th WOG in a row where finished top 10 in the medal ranking, but only the first time ever where we won medals in 3 different sports during the same winter olympic games
  15. Congrats and @hckošice I can't imagine how much this means to you and, based on your posts here, how much it must mean for the whole country. Deserved win and an amazing medal, especially after the rough start of this tournament.
  16. At the end of the speed skating tournament, this is the final medal table. Rank NOC Gold Silver Bronze Total 2022 Total 2018 Total 2014* 1. Netherlands 6 4 2 12 16 23 2. Sweden 2 0 0 2 0 0 3. Canada 1 3 1 5 2 2 3. Japan 1 3 1 5 6 0 5. Norway 1 0 2 3 4 0 5. United States of America 1 0 2 3 1 0 7. Belgium 1 0 0 1 1 0 7. China 1 0 0 1 1 1 9. South Korea 0 2 2 4 7 2 10. Italy 0 1 2 3 1 0 11. ROC 0 1 1 2 1 3 12. Czech Republic 0 0 1 1 2 2 * Mass Start was introduced as an Olympic event in Pyeongchang, therefore there were 6 medals less in 2014. Some facts: 8 different countries divided the 14 golden medals among them of which 2 Asian, 2 North American and 4 European countries. In both 2014 and 2018, there were only 5 different countries with at least one golden medal in speed skating. All countries that won a medal in 2018 also won a medal in Beijing. Only is new in the list this time around. won only half the amount of medals they won 8 years ago. These are the third consecutive Olympic Games in which did not win a speed skating medal. They won 4 medals in Vancouver, 3 in Turin, and 8 in Salt Lake City. also hasn't won a medal since 2014 when they won 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze.
  17. SCHOUTEN! What a deserved winner. Queen of the speed skating tournament with 3 golden and 1 bronze medal.
  18. Verbij stood no chance, there’s no doubt about that. However, he could have messed up Dubreuil’s race as well by trying trying to save his own, either by speeding up and unsuccessfully trying to change lanes hindering Dubreuil, or by only holding back at the end of the change over forcing Dubreuil to enter the corner in an unpleasant manner at such high speeds. Both would’ve led to a disqualification of Verbij, but most likely also to Dubreuil finishing outside the podium places.
  19. Krol! Also very happy for Dubreuil and Lorentzen! Surprising podium. and also in the top 10
  20. It took until the very last event of this short track tournament for to win their first short track gold medal of the games.
  21. Takagi and Herzog both incredibly fast so early in the competition.
