There are too few new strong people coming in. It`s similar among the women, because the only young one - Scutto - appeared in the previous cycle. Compared to the depth of the squad of Germany, for example, we are very weak not to mention France or Georgia. This is very worrying for the future, because something seems to have blocked in our training.

There are too many Italian defeats in the matches for 3rd places. Counting Paris 2024, this is probably the 7th or 8th defeat in a row of this type. And that makes a big difference at the end (better to have 2 bronzes than 7/8x 5 places which mean almost nothing at the end). We have 2 golds here, but overall the Germans have made more progress recently and have a better squad: more medals, more points and today a much better performance in the team. Unfortunately, in Italy, the regression in the men's category is worrying: Lombardo and Parlati again without individual medals, no one else showed up except for 1 young guy. In practically every weapon, we are in poor shape: the women's foil defended itself miraculously against average France. Today, the Olympic gold team in epee (3/4 fencers of that team) was crushed in the semi-finals by Ukraine in 1/2. I don't know what to think about it - I understand the post-Olympic year, but if you field the best team, then to win. It would be different if the youth competed here... We field the best and most experienced competitors in foil and epee, who are out of shape. It would have been better to field a few younger people so that they could learn. What is the point of 37-year-old Errggo or 35-year-old Fiamingo to compete only to lose in a compromising way in the first rounds individually and then win something in the team at the last moment?

Bellandi got 2 shido for nothing and the German attacked maybe once in 6 minutes of extra time... If the Italian woman were in her place, she would have had a 3rd penalty long time ago. We can't have it that we are constantly being wronged and the federation is doing nothing about it.

I'm only worried that apart from Favaretto we don't have anyone young at a high level, because people like Errigo, Volpi, or Batini have been in the team for 10-15 years. Sabre is a more serious problem - here we are counting less and less: in women's not at all, in men's individual the last medal was won for us by veteran Samele in 2024. The competition in the world is getting bigger and bigger, and we are left behind. France has shown that thanks to investments in domestic games it is possible to stay in the top. In our country, without a radical increase in money for fencing and for all the sport in general, there will be a very painful decline in results in the next few Olympic cycles.
