Because the draw is set after the seeding and can not be changed.
Starikova took over the top seed part of the draw once she defeated Friedrich.

I doubt that. Soccer is the sport practiced by youth in Canada.
Men's sport is arguably more competitive worldwide (as in more competitive nations/athletes) and therefore it would need more funding to keep up. However that won't fly here.

That's it, Japan wins it 2-0.
Baseball matches are long, especially at the Olympics, but it's definitely a team sport I hope to return for LA 2028.

Obs announcers are saying ROC wants second place to go last in the finals. Not sure that is a good strategy

Its a new event and they have not raced it on the international stage. I'd assume they have some chances based on it being an endurance event. We did have a fluke winner in 2004.

What an embarrassment, last place and behind Next time Athletics Canada shouldn't come up with stupid selection process and just pick the top 3 times to go (assuming they are fit).

At roughly 15+ kilometers per hour, there is a bit of an advantage you gain from staying behind someone. Not as much as when the speeds are higher though, of course, I don't think it'll matter that much here.

It's the same as in cycling. It's much easier to follow than to set the pace leading.

I think Canada has done tremendous at these games , the most devastating outcome in my opinion was the double quarterfinal beach volleyball loss. Other than that extremely happy. Rooting for at least one more medal , hopefully gold to top our record in a non-boycotted games. And to think if the multiple torn ligament ankle injuries never happened Canada would probably have another four medals (caeli McKay: women’s 10m synchro, Rosie: trampoline and ellie black: women’s individual all around and beam finals). So weird and unfortunate that the exact same injury happened to all of them.

Told ya. It turns out I know what happens to Sinclair even better than the Canadians do

Second best non-boycotted games, one more gold would make it the best. One more medal of any colour would also make it the most ever in a non boycotted games. Maggie Mac Neil won gold in swimming (100m butterfly), it was Canada's first gold of these games. I can also recall saying "shitty day today" twice, so its unreal this performance. It could be even better.
Second week started badly with two straight days of no medals (every day up until that point there was at least one medal).

I suspected that the OBS announcer was John Anderson from ESPN, and just realized that it actually is him. Weird

from 65 in 2012 to 67 in 2016. went from 19 in 2016 to 16 currently + 4 finals (2 in boxing, 1 in men's football, 1 in women's volleyball) + 2 clear chances (1 bronze medal match in men's volleyball, 1 chance in C1 1000 canoeing) + 1 outside chance in equestrian.

Interesting fact for us Brazilians: Brazil is only the second nation in the history of the Olympic Games to improve the total number of medals earned after hosting the Olympics. We have 20 medals guaranteed now. And we can even increase the number of gold medals compared to Rio, with up to 9 now, what I believe will not happen, but there's still a chance.

3 medal chances left. Women's sprint, women's 4x400 relay and women's c2. Hoping we can get over the 22 medal mark from Rio!

I think it's having respect for the greatest goal scorer of all time. Imagine the headlines if they left Sinclair off the team?
