Its a new event and they have not raced it on the international stage. I'd assume they have some chances based on it being an endurance event. We did have a fluke winner in 2004.

Second best non-boycotted games, one more gold would make it the best. One more medal of any colour would also make it the most ever in a non boycotted games. Maggie Mac Neil won gold in swimming (100m butterfly), it was Canada's first gold of these games. I can also recall saying "shitty day today" twice, so its unreal this performance. It could be even better. Second week started badly with two straight days of no medals (every day up until that point there was at least one medal).

Canada needs one more gold medal to guarantee its best ever Olympics (non-boycotted).

Let's put a wager on Japan having more medals in 2024 ... if the pattern holds

Of the big two sports, the men won all the Athletics medals and the women in swimming. Imagine if they could have both genders be equal in both sports. Possibilities are endless.
