  1. And good results continue for your fencers. Glad for them
  2. Well it all started back in 2016, just weeks before the Olympics. At that time, Paola Pliego was reported to have failed a drug test made by the local authorities, so as the investigation continued, she was provisionally suspended and excluded from the Mexican delegation. Some time later, a German lab with WADA recognition analized the same sample and found nothing wrong with it. From then on, she has been vocal about being framed by our own federation because she belongs to a local association that does not support the current president (of the Mexican Fencing Federation, that is). This season she was often snubbed and unsupported at every World Cup in which she could have competed, but the real offense came in March when it was announced that she wasn't selected for the CAC Games, due to "formalities"; essentiality, she wasn't allowed to compete in the national selective, so of course she had no chance at all; furthermore, the Iberoamerican association of fencing added fuel by publicly stating their support for her and expelling Mexican Fencing Federation's president from that body. This only made him angrier and through political manipulation, he convinced the Olympic Committee and our corrupt sports arbitration tribunal to confirm Pliego's exclusion. So to sum it up, he's just being a complete douche, who is only trying to become rich by exploiting our fencers.
  3. Wonderful results for Argentina so far, especially gold in men's individual epée. Meanwhile, Mexico's competing with an average team, some of our best being kept away by the childish and corrupt behaviour of our NF president, who especially has a feud against our best fencer in women's senior sabre (Paola Pliego) What a waste with so many years of continuous growth being hurt by one men's ambition of being president for life.
  4. For those who could be interested (@thiago_simoes) here's livestream for the 2018 Jr Pan Am Championships

  6. Final day of 2018 World Cup and the hosts completed their swept of the gold medals. Nothing else to say, besides being happy with divers from "non-traditional countries" like Ireland, France and the Netherlands gaining spot for the top level competition next year. These are the last couple of results. Men 10m Platform: Gold: CHEN Aisen Silver: YANG Jian Bronze: DINSMORA David 2019 WDS qualifiers: AUFFRET Benjamin, VILLARREAL TUDON Andres Isaac, BERLIN REYES Kevin, SHLEIKHER Nikita, BEDGGOOD Domonic Women 3m Synchro Springboard: Gold: CHANG Yani/SHI Tingmao Silver: ABEL Jennifer/CITRINI-BEAULIEU Melissa Bronze: QIN Esther/SMITH Anabelle Also qualified to 2019 WDS:
  7. If I understood correctly, only the winners gained direct qualification: those are in women and in men. Mexican teams having finished in second will have to wait until all other tournaments finish to be completed and see if their ranking is enough to advance to next round. Correction @Vojthas, it seems the first two were given spots, after I found this article today.
  8. And incredibly, Mexico men's team managed to tie with USA 5-5 ... it was a really intense game, which ended with a downpour included. It will all come to goal difference, with Mexico having a two goal advantage.
  9. Of course no one is expecting that... my best scenario was Mexican teams avoiding a total disaster... btw women's game against Canada is on the second quarter and already the locals are losing 4-0 Livestream if anyone is interested
  10. Penultimate day of 2018 World Cup. Nothin unusual, first in the 3m Synchro Mixed, the Chinese took their 9th gold of the competition with very little opposition; the other podium places however saw an interesting competition Mixed 3m Synchro Springboard: Gold: WANG Han/LI Zheng Silver: BERTOCCHI Elena/VERZOTTO Maicol Bronze: REID Grace/HASLAM Ross Also qualified to 2019 WDS: In women's 3m springboard, Chinese divers again very impressive, while in the fight for the bronze Canada's Ware edged Keeney from Australia, both showing their experience against the rest. Women 3m Springboard: Gold: SHI Tingmao Silver: WANG Han Bronze: WARE Pamela 2019 WDS qualifiers: KEENEY Maddison, PALMER Krysta, SMITH Anabelle, PUNZEL Tina, ABEL Jennifer
  11. Today one final, considering Olympic events only, was disputed: the Men's 10m Synchronized Platform. Chinese were far beyond reach, but the drama came in the final dive, when one of the Mexican divers completely failed his dive and cost him a place in the podium. Men 10m Synchro Platform: Gold: CHEN Aisen/YANG Hao Silver: BELEVTSEV Aleksandr/SHLEIKHER Nikita Bronze: BEDGGOOD Domonic/STACEY Declan Also qualified to 2019 WDS: Also contested were the 3m Women Springboard, in which Jennifer Abel was leading until the last dive when she crumbled (as usual in her ) and let the Chinese girl take first two places; besides those three, everyone had a mediocre competition, but it seems everyone is really trying to save their best for the finals.
  12. Thanks a lot @OlympicIRL... probably with him in our side, we can avenge the Irish against the Danes this saturday.
  13. May the luck of the Irish be with El Tri BTW, could you send Seamus to join them?
  14. First event for the Mixed relays ranking starts today in Nottingham Startlist Twitter update
  15. Today 2 finals were contrested: In men's 3m springboard, only the Chinese had an amazing performance; also in contention with them was Laugher, thanks in part to the dificulty degree of their dives, while the rest were just average. Men 3m Springboard: Gold: XIE Siyi Silver: CAO Yuan Bronze: LAUGHER Jack Other 2019 WDS qualifiers: PACHECO MARRUFO Rommel, HAUSDING Patrick, CASTILLO HUERTA Yahel Ernesto, DINGLEY Oliver, SAKAI Sho The other event was women's 10m Synchro Platform, again China was impressive, while contention for the other podium places was quite even between 3 pairs. Women 10m Synchro Platform: Gold: ZHANG Jiaqi/ZHANG Minjie Silver: KIM Mi Hwa/KIM Kwang Hui Bronze: BENFEITO Meaghan/McKAY Caeli Also qualified to 2019 WDS:
  16. Day 3 of Diving World Cup, saw the women's 10m platform finals. No big surprises, only the Chinese were good, while the other had average scores, proved by the 54.70 difference between 2nd and 3rd place. Women 10m Platform: Gold: ZHANG Jiaqi Silver: REN Qian Bronze: PAMG Pandelela Also qualified to 2019 WDS: KIM Kwang Hui, DEL ANGEL PENICHE Viviana, LYSKUN Sofiia, BENFEITO Meaghan, TOULSON Lois Prelims in the 3m Springboard for men were also contested, but again, level of prelims was regular at best, with the 18 that did not/make less mistakes advancing to semis.
  17. First Event of World Hockey Series starts today in Salamanca, Mexico. It features 5 teams in both men's and women's competition, with Canada being favorite in the first and USA in the second one to advance to the next round. The only "contender" in both tournaments will be the host teams, although they will need some luck to join their rivals in the next stage. Personally, I would be happy if Mexican squads manage to concede 4 or less goals against the favorites and destroy the remaining opponents by at least that margin, in order for them to have some chance to qualify to 2019 Pan American Games. For those interested here's livestream of the tournament.
  18. On the second day of the Diving World Cup, just one medal event, the 3m Synchro Springboard. Again gold for the Chinese, but it was closely contested as the British pair actually came first in the (useless) prelim round. Men 3m Synchro Springboard: Gold: CAO Yuan/XIE Siyi Silver: LAUGHER Jack/MEARS Chris Bronze: OCAMPO MARROQUIN Jahir/PACHECO MARRUFO Rommel Other 2019 WDS qualifiers: The other event contested was Women's 10m prelims, which had an awful level as, with the exception of the top 6 qualifiers) went for regular to plain bad in their executions. So as long as this continues, it will be hard to beat the Chinese in this event.
  19. Mexico Final Squad Goalkeepers: José de Jesús Corona (Cruz Azul), Alfredo Talavera (Toluca), Guillermo Ochoa (Standar Liege/BEL) Defenders: Hugo Ayala (Tigres UANL), Carlos Salcedo (Eintracht Frankfurt/GER), Diego Reyes (FC Porto/POR), Miguel Layún (Sevilla/ESP), Héctor Moreno (Real Sociedad/ESP), Édson Álvarez (América), Jesús Gallardo (Monterrey) Midfielders: Rafael Márquez (Atlas), Jonathan Dos Santos (LA Galaxy/USA), Marco Fabián (Eintracht Frankfurt/GER), Héctor Herrera (FC Porto/POR), Andrés Guardado (Real Betis/ESP), Javier Aquino (Tigres UANL) Forwards: Raúl Jiménez (Benfica/POR), Giovani Dos Santos (LA Galaxy/USA), Carlos Vela (Los Angeles FC/USA), Javier Hernández (West Ham United/ENG), Jesús Manuel Corona (FC Porto/POR), Oribe Peralta (América), Hirving Lozano (PSV Eindhoven/NED)
  20. Today marked the start of this bi-annual event, which in this ocassion will also serve to qualify the top 8 divers in individual events and the top 6 pairs in synchro (including mixed events) receiving a direct invitation to compete at next year's World Diving Series. Startlists - Detailed Results No big surprises on the first day, as usual China took both golds in two non Olympic Events: Mixed 10m Synchro Platform: Gold: SI Yajie/LIAN Junjie Silver: McKAY Caeli/RIENDEAU Vincent Bronze: BELOVA Valeriia/NAZIN Sergey Also qualified to 2019 WDS: Team Event: Gold: CHEN Yiwen/QIU Bo Silver: LYSKUN Sofiia/KOLODIY Oleg Bronze: PALMER Krysta/DINSMORE David
  21. In principle this is true; however in some ocassions, injuries or lack of funds prevent some competitors from a determined event to actually participate; so in order to avoid other NOC's and sportspeople being affected by the event being canceled just a mere days before it takes place, the technical commission allows the event to still be held as official.
  22. Probably it happens something similar to the Central American and Caribbean Games in which, if between the date limit for entries and the technical meeting of the sport/discipline in question, the number of countries/competitors drops under 5, it can still be hosted provided there are 4 nations/competitors.
  23. Both Mexican players in men's doubles won their first round matches Best of luck for both of them and their partners, especially for Santiago Gonzalez who last year made it to the final.
  24. Sure she's still a medal chance, but combat sports are often too dramatic, as a little mistake could cost her a medal in a knock-out draw.
  25. Yes it was silver in women's pairs for Aruba.. As for the chance in sailing, I doubt it, as their best representative is not present.
