I too agree head on format would be good. And yeah I don't enjoy speed skating due to the format and events.

If I had to set the events for winter Olympics it'd be:

    1.500m
    2.1500m
    3. Pursuit
    4. Mass Start (no points and all)
    5. Points Race 32 laps, Sprint every 4th lap, 5-1 points for all sprint and 8,6,4,2,1 for final sprint.
    6. Elimination Race 12 laps 3,6,9,11 lap elimination and maximun 8 skaters in 1 heat. QFs SFs Finals format
7.Mixed Relay - Short track system of heats and finals.
    8. 5000m

    Total 15 events.

They don't reject quotas. It was a thing of the past. Like Tokyo both hockey and Water Polo teams will be there.

We don't have any good boxer in this weight. Nikhat Zareen is a 2 time world champion in the Flyweight 50kg. I don't think we have a gold medal favorite this time and there's a fear we may return empty handed or say 1 or 2 medals. Really keeping my expectations low. Maybe Neeraj and Sift Kaur have the highest chances of medals. Nothing assured of anyone.

That's strange FIS did it like that. It's like telling Hanna Oeberg is winner in a biathlon pursuit just because she was fast and shot 0 moving from 20th to 5th and had the best 20km time.

Jessie Diggins what a domination that was! 47s ahead of everyone that was fast. Only top 10 can now challenge for the title I guess in the women.

Curling is a fantastic sport to watch. But it's way too costly. I personally watch few group games, SF, Finals. So for 6 games not worth paying recast.

World Curling says the Olympics channel will be live-streaming select games. Unfortunate that all matches aren’t on YouTube, I love curling but I’m not paying 20€ to get a 14 day Recast pass. I’m not the only one, I’ve seen lots of complaints from other curling fans, and World Curling still won’t do anything

But don’t see the IOC removing skateboarding/artistic swimming from the Olympic programme. If artistic swimming does get axed though

Here are some of the notes that I have regarding the Olympic event medal table:

318 out of the 329 events hosted in Paris 2024 is competed in Huangzhou.  The total gold medal count is 319 due to a two gold medals given in the men's 110 meters Hurdles as Kuwait and Japan both win gold for crossing the finish line at the same time.  South Korea's gold medals in Olympic events has been gradually decreasing since 2010.  Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan have essentially swapped places in the medal table hierarchy. In past editions, it was Kazakhstan that usaully sits in the top 4, while Uzbekistan won an average of around 4-8 Olympic events in in previous Asian Games. Now, the tables have been turned as Uzbekistan have reap the benefits of their improvement in a number of sports, especially in Judo, Rowing, Cycling, Taekwondo, Fencing, etc, while maintaining supremacy in Boxing. Conversely, Kazakhstan have their worst ever performance at an Asian Games since their first participation in 1994.  Another country that is noted for improvement is Hong Kong. I believe that this is the most gold medals that they won in an Asian Games. Having Siobahn Haughey helps, but there are also other sports that they shown to be at an elite level, especially in Fencing, Sailing, Rugby and Rowing. Winning 4th place in men's football doesn't look bad for them as well. India's improvement has to be noted as well. India's pet sports such as Track and Field and Shooting carried them to their best performance in an Asian Games outside of their country. Even that, they could have done even better if their Boxing and Wrestling teams deliver at Huangzhou.  While Southeast Asian countries have shown improvement in Olympic sports, it must be said that their overall performance is still a bit underwheling considering that none of them won more than three Olympic events at Huangzhou, which does not bode well for any of these country's chances to do well in Paris.    While China is the undisputed number one country in Asia, I and I'm sure a number of people here don't believe that the gap between China and Japan is as big as the 144-44 gold medal count indicates. A full squad of A-tier athletes for Japan would have won a range of 70-80 events, while China's true ability should be around 120-135 gold medals in Olympic events.  With that being said, while Japan send B-tier athletes in a number of sports such as Track and Field, Judo, Gymnastics, Skateboarding, Volleyball and Tennis, their A-tier athletes did underachieve in Swimming, Shooting, Table Tennis, Canoeing and Rowing.  I will likely write up a blurb for the 2024 prospects of some of the countries that competed in Huangzhou in a couple of days.

Well yeah it was good but I expected a bit more from the Dutch closer to 270s rather than this. But it's ok I believe teams these days prefer T20s with all leagues in offer.  Italy almost qualified to T20 WC 2024 narrowly lost to Ireland.

Yes they will, July is rainy season in India so we travel to countries like West Indies (non profitable tour), Ireland or England (alternate year). So there's nothing much that happens in this month

Amusing fact: surfing is the only Olympic sport where North America, South America, Africa, Asia and Oceania have all won medals but Europe hasn’t. And that’s after awarding just six medals…

It was decided earlier that in case of wash out match given to the team that's higher in world rankings. Horrible rule I say. Usually they keep reserve days for knockout matches and in group stages points shared since its final both teams should have got shared gold

the most important use of doping is done in training, to sustain bigger workloads and speed up recovery

and the new genetic doping is used way before you enter in competition to literally build more muscles and strenghten all of your body, improve the endurance and all the physical skills you need to succeed

the only chance to catch the big cheaters is in the socalled "out of competition" tests, a long time far away from the targeted events (and that's why the whereabouts issue is a big one and 3 missed tests are compared to a positive one)

those who are caught in competition, it only happens because something went wrong in calculating the time needed by the human body to eliminate all the signs of the doping usage

nobody at this level is so stupid to come to a competition completly filled with illegal substances

that's why all the athletes who have not been tested for a long period often comeback stronger than ever, that's why  and  shouldn't be allowed to get back to the international sports scene until they have passed a very long period in which they are tested regularly for any kind of doping products, otherwise it would be extremely unfair to all the remaining participants
