  1. Finito, ende, terminé, game over... Mr. Monk would be proud and happy how we rounded the final number at the very last minute federations send their list of nominated and qualified athletes to our NOC. Friday morning the 21st, the General Assembly of slovak NOC will meet to the approval session where the entire delegation is expected to be approved and accepted. So until then "unofficially" 50 (37+13) Ice Hockey 25 (25+0) Biathlon 8 (4+4) Alpine Skiing 5 (2+3) Cross-Country Skiing 5 (2+3) Luge 5 (4+1) Bobsleigh 1 (0+1) Snobowboarding (Park&Pipe) 1 (0+1) More to come this Friday after the General Nomination Assembly...

  4. Full list of quotas and nominated athletes was posted by the FIL today: https://www.fil-luge.org/cdn/uploads/fil-luge-qualification-list.pdf declines their quota in women’s singles, which went to either declined their quota in men’s singles, or were never awarded one, thus giving a second quota in men’s singles. I think the FIL interpreted their qualification document different than we had in mind. “If there are still remaining quota places that are not filled after applying D.2, quota places will be allocated to the next highest ranked eligible athlete/doubles team from an NOC that has not earned a quota place according to D.1…” My guess, based off the allocations made, would be that the FIL interpreted this rule as only unqualified NOCs could earn a quota through D.3. That would explain why and were seemingly passed over for men’s and women’s singles quota respectively. This clause explains how got that second quota in this case: “If there are still remaining quota places that are not filled after applying D.3.1, quota places will be allocated to the NOC with the next highest ranked eligible athlete/doubles team…” Edit: This would also be the reason didn’t get a men’s singles quota.

  20. currently has 214 athletes qualified for Beijing. Alpine - 12* Biathlon - 8 Bobsleigh - 18 Cross-Country 9 Curling - 12 Figure skating - 13 Freestyle skiing -32 Hockey - 48 Luge - 6 Short track - 10 Skeleton - 3 Ski jumping - 4 Snowboarding - 23* Speed skating - 16 Canada stands to gain three reallocation in snowboarding atm, one in the women's halfpipe, and one each in the PGS events (which would put Canada at the maximum in the sport), which would increase the team to 217 athletes. Canada is assured of another women's quota in alpine (Netherlands and Liechtenstein will reject), so that brings it too 218. If another thee ahead decline, Canada would get a further two women. Not sure if all we be accepted. So Canada's final team size should be anywhere from 214-220, which ofc is less than the 224 in PyeongChang.

  21. I don't think they know what they are talking about. In half-pipe and slopestyle/big air the quotas they rejected show as, well, rejected. They specifically accepted a re-allocation quota in PGS while other countries rejected them. Either they are incompetent or different factions of the organization are at war with each other...

  36. It is amazing how we as public can check so many Olympic updates and know info earlier then some media. Speaking of quota, reallocations, etc. And not only winter games but also summer games, e.g. Judo, Badminton, Athletics, etc But I remember couple Olympic back it wasn't like that. Does anybody remember when FIS or other organizations started showing all these Olympic quota and allocation information to public? For me, big thumb up, hope all organisations of Olympic sports will be doing this in the future ...

  39. What would really annoy me is that if the NZOC don't select Campbell Wright to Beijing then I hope like heck he chooses the USA for future events. 1, He'd get much better support and 2, He won't have to rely on money since he's done it all on his own with no financial assistance from NZ Sport. He's had to find his own coach, borrowed skis etc. Is practically handicapped even before the start line. There's already people in NZ demanding him he go and are putting pressure on the NZOC. If the NZOC can select a no hope Freestyle skier Margaux Hackett who struggles to make top 20 let alone top 16 most of the time and had a few fluke top 10s. Who I guarantee won't make a final of her event, well that reeks of favoritism. It sucks, and I'm not holding out hope he'll be selected. I just hope if he doesn't he goes and skis for the US in the future. At least they'll look after him. I do hope I'm wrong though.
