  1. Good, I hope for surfing in Tahiti, skateboarding in Guadeloupe, breakdancing in French Guiana...so we can forget that they're part of the Olympics.

  7. Farsi = Persian . this is amazing people don't know that. Farsi is the Persian word for "Persian" in Iran ! we don't use the word Persian or Persia in Iran, in Kabul they call it something else but it's exactly the same. there are other languages in Afghanistan too. same as Iran, half of Iran population speak a second language (Turkish/Azeri, Arabic, Kurdish, Turkmen, etc) of course there are small differences, some common words in Iran are different in Afghanistan. (and Tajikistan, they also speak Persian)

  10. oh no way, the situation is even worse (comparing to few years ago) these days. this probably got boring for western media to report about Afghanistan but since we share the same language, whenever I listen the news there is always one explosion in Afghanistan per day among them. specially right now in middle of these "so called" negotiations. (even though I don't know how you can make a deal with them, they will never give up an inch about what they believe) and remember football was somehow banned in Afghanistan in Taliban era, they don't like such things. an international football match in Afghanistan is a potential target for them. btw looks like they are not happy with having their matches in Iran, they can have packed stadium here (even 100,000 big Azadi stadium was packed once for U23 match !!!) but it seems they are not happy with their financial agreement with Iranian football federation last time. they wanted Qatar but now they can't because Qatar is in the same group with them.

  12. I thought Afghanistan would play their home matches at home by now. I mean, I know it's not exactly going great, but somehow I thought in most parts of the country it wasn't completely abnormal for the region anymore..

  14. Yes, you are right. It is not the entry list from the official website, but there are names of qualified athletes, with only two exceptions. However, I believe that it will not so different from this. I'll check that when the official website releases the names.

  15. That isn’t the final entry list (sorry), it was the quota breakdown.

  17. as far as I know the current Yemen NT is founded by the Saudis. (hard to believe I know) of course some players probably "don't like" Saudi Arabia but it's not like they will boycott the match. the last time Syria played its home matches in Malaysia. so maybe they even play their home matches in East Asia again. obviously Yemen and Afghanistan also can't "host" their matches. but Iraq will host its WCQ matches after a while. I think the last time was in 2002. and from what I heard we have to play Iraq in Basra , not a really good choice. hope they take the security very seriously.

  19. I think Group E anf F are the easiest, Group A is also easy, it will be between Syria and China. if we consider AFC teams in 2018 WC as the main contender here I think only Iran and maybe Saudi Arabia are in a bit of danger in the first round. Saudi Arabia and Palestine in the same group will cause problems. Saudi nationals can't/don't travel to Palestine, they will probably force FIFA/AFC to play Palestine's home match somewhere else. assuming Qatar winning group E, we will have 5 runner-ups in the second round, I think group G won't be one of them. those SEA teams will take points from each other. Group H is also balanced after South Korea. will be hard for runner-up from that group to qualify. hard to pick the last one, but I guess it will be either C or D. maybe B. so here is my prediction : A: B: C: D: E: F: G: H:

  21. Ha. I was behind the Pitcairn Islands one. All I did though was send a few emails to their government and the PGC asking about the possibility (in theory). Far as I know they do have young people who could compete in some sports (on-island and off) and they seemed interested when I talked to them. However, haven’t heard from them lately and I’m not sure they’ll end up applying. It’s hard to keep up a correspondence on Pitcairn, even though email.

  22. per previous tournaments, it will be the 5th best runner-up. this is the method AFC used in its previous tournaments. of course it will be better to see the official document about it but I'm 90% sure about what I said.

  25. Yes he has a good future if he gets support from your federation. I really wanted him and Poland's Lesiak to go into semis, but qualifying in men's diving is always cutthroat.

  26. Mohab Ishak was really close from qualifying , if only that 3rd attempt which he got 37 this guy finished 4th in a WC in USA this season , i guess he has some good future , but he needs support from our federation at least to participate in some WCs

  30. Here are the ten largest athletic teams so far qualified to the Olympics (I took the top three athletes for nations with more than 3 eligible athletes) 1. United States - 73 2. Jamaica - 32 3. Kenya - 31 4. China - 30 5. Great Britain - 26 6. Germany - 23 7. Poland - 21 8. Ethiopia - 20 9. Japan - 19 9. Russia - 19 Relative to last month, Canada and Spain both drop off after tying with Russia for 10th. Overall it was a big month for Great Britain whom gained 9 athletes, as many as the United States and one more than Jamaica. Japan had the least gains among the top 10 only adding a single athlete over the month. Overall 88 nations have qualified at least one athlete.

  31. Nice! It's easier to appreciate what athletes do when you're involved with the sport somehow, but as an spectator I'm not committed to invest my time on this sport as of yet. In fact, I disapprove of many of the additions, including karate, skateboarding and the dreadful break dancing.
