Josh 6,702 Posted August 4, 2023 #54 Share Posted August 4, 2023 (edited) @Rafa Maciel @intoronto I believe World Athletics can invite athletes to complete in disciplines, so I'm pretty sure he got wildcarded in. But I'm not completely sure. Edited August 4, 2023 by Josh
SalamAkhi 284 Posted August 4, 2023 #55 Share Posted August 4, 2023 Canada seems to have included several unqualified athletes at the moment, waiting for potential reallocations. None of the three heptathletes is currently in for example, and they're even pretty far from qualifying spots.
FireRun 180 Posted August 4, 2023 #56 Share Posted August 4, 2023 Don't nations have a few quotas they can use to enter athletes that normally wouldn't qualify?

dodge 818 Posted August 4, 2023 #58 Share Posted August 4, 2023 This is all pretty weird Canada is selecting athletes who aren’t qualified (or close to qualifying) GB aren’t selecting athletes who are qualified Josh
Vektor 3,196 Posted August 4, 2023 #59 Share Posted August 4, 2023 (edited) I think the only nation who might be able to pick multiple wildcards is us. I have seen it reported that we are expected to enter around 45 athletes, and that's only possible with some wildcards for the host nation. Btw, it looks like I will be there for the entire first weekend. Should be plenty enough to experience the Worlds with events like the men's 100m, hammer throw, shot put, and the heptathlon. I will watch the rest of the Worlds on TV. Edited August 4, 2023 by Vektor Adriano
dodge 818 Posted August 4, 2023 #60 Share Posted August 4, 2023 The biggest ever Irish team (23, could rise) has been announced. Our last 3 medals have been in walking and we've never had a bronze medal. 4 gold, 2 silver Adeleke and Mageean can win medals if they have the race of their lives and others don't. https://www.athleticsireland.ie/news/world-athletics-championships-selections maestro
