Rdbc got a reaction from konig in [OFF TOPIC] Your Trips & Holidays Thread
I've been to Spain but when I was about 6 months old so I don't remember it. But, I' went to Italy about 3 years ago and loved it! I'm not sure where your going in Italy but assuming your going to Rome some of my favorite things I did was obviously get some gelato, visit Vatican City, and overall just enjoy and soak in all the amazing architecture (we don't have much here in the US). I'm not sure how set in stone your trip is but if you get the chance the country side is absolutely stunning and there are some amazing pizza places all throughout! Not sure if this was any help but I hope you have a fun time and I'm going to France in February (school trip) so I might need some advice from you on what to expect!

Week in Summer #10 - United States
June 4th - July 1st
NOTE: Happy I got this post out along with the Road to Tokyo ones this week, go check those out if you haven't yet. Still been working away on my spreadsheet, I've been reformating it to make more sense but it's a lot of work but fun!
Archery
No Archery news last week, the 4th stage of the Archery World Cup is coming up in July and in August is the Pan American Championship!
Badminton
Mongolia International Series 2018
Men's Singles
This is the first time Christopher Kan is competing at an event in Singles, or at least thats what the BWF website says. Sadly he lost first round but still good to get some experience!
Women's Singles
Iris Wang was able to win the first round against Kherlen Darkhanbaatar (what a last name) and advanced to the second round where she beat I Kuan Ao. Sadly Iris lost to Chaasinee Korepap in the Quarter finals. But hopefully this will improve her world ranking above 585 where she is at right now.
Peru International 2018
Men's Singles
Enrico Asuncion
Enrico Asuncion lost to Kevin Cordon in the first round. In Men's Singles Enrico is currently ranked 1,309th at age 19.
Timothy Lam
Timothy Lam was able to beat Enzo Sugiura from Brazil in the first round but lost to Osleni Guerrero of Cuba in the second round. Timothy is currently ranked 363rd in the World Rankings at age 20 moving up from 419th after this tournament.
Women's Singles
Isabelle Rusli
Sadly Isabelle lost first round against Mariana Isabel Paiz Quan. Isabelle is currently ranked 246th in the World for Women's Singles!
Disha Gupta
Disha got a first round bye and ended up beating Mariana Ugalde from Mexico in the second round. In the quarter finals she faced off against Femanda Saponara Rivva and beat her aswell. Although in the semi finals she lost to Taymara. Disha Gupta is currently ranked 113th in the World Rankings for Women's Singles!
Crystal Pan
Crystal Pan (a name I actually recognize) played in this tournament and got a first round bye! In the second round she beat Nikte which allowed her to advance to the quarter finals where she beat Maria Delia Zambrano. In the semi finals she beat Fabiana Silva from Brazil and in the finals she won against Taymara who beat Disha Gupta another USA competitor. Crystal Pan is currently ranked 119th in Women's Singles World Ranking.

2018 FIVB Volleyball Women's Nations League

Final Round Group Stage
We were surprisingly ranked 1st in our group beating Turkey 3-2 and Serbia 3-0! This means we would go against the 2nd ranked team in Pool A.
Final Round Final Four
In the Semifinals we beat China 3-1 and in the final beat Turkey 3-2! Which means we are the first time winner of the FIVB Volleyball Women's Nations League inaugural season which is amazing!

There are some games today for the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualification - Americas Today!
June 28th
Virgin Islands vs Bahamas
Virgin Islands will advance to Second Round if they win vs Bahamas
Bahamas need to win against Virgin Islands to have a chance of progressing
Argentina vs Panama
Argentina have sealed a place in the Second Round
Panama have the inside track to the Second Round, needing a win at Argentina or Paraguay to advance.
Puerto Rico vs Cuba
Puerto Rico would seal a sport in the Second Round with a victory over Cuba
Cuba, to have a chance of progressing in the Second Round, must win both Puerto Rico (today) and the USA (Sunday) and hope that Mexico defeats Puerto Rico (Sunday)
Paraguay vs Uruguay
Paraguay needs two wins to have a chance of advancing
Uruguay have already secured their spot in the Second Round
Mexico vs USA
Both Mexico and USA have secured their spot in the Second Round

Thanks for the update, I’d like to add that our Sport Climbers did very well at the World Cup in Vail. I don’t remember the results off the top of my head, but I believe both a US man and woman got a podium. The US shooters have also had a good World Cup season, with a few wins in shotgun events. The US woman preformed well in the French Open, with both Sloane Stephens and Madison Keys making the quarterfinals. Stephens went on to take 2nd. The US also had a few paddlers reach the semi-finals at this weeks ICF Slalom World Cup 1. The US did not do great at the Pan American Handball Championships.

Week in Winter #2 - United States
March 11th - March 25th
(WIP)
Since I missed the previous week, I am covering both in this post.
Alpine Skiing
Going back to last week, we had the finals of the Alpine Skiing World Cup in Are, Sweden. In this, and the overall, the US fared very well on the women's side, but not as well on the men's side.
Ladies' Downhill:
Men's Downhill:
Ladies' Super G:
Men's Super G:
No competitors
Team Event:
No competitors
Ladies' Slalom:
Men's Slalom:
These results mean that Mikaela Shiffrin wins the Overall and Slalom Crystal Globes!
Biathlon
March 15th-18th there was a Biathlon WC Event in Oslo:
Women Sprint:
Men Sprint:
Women Relay:
Men Pursuit:
Women Pursuit:
Men Relay:
This was a great result for our women, especially Susan Dunklee! A podium finish for her, just her 7th career, and coming off one at the World Championships last year.
This race was also significant for the US as it marked the end of the 2 top biathletes for the US, Lowell Bailey and Tim Burke. They both have had great careers and have come close to giving the US their first biathlon medal. I loved watching these gentlemen, and their absence will surely be felt.
There was a Biathlon World Cup event in Tyumen, Russia that was the following week and concluded the season. This race was boycotted by the United States because of continued suspicion of Russian doping allegations.

The Bobsleigh World Cup will resume 7-9 December in Sigulda, Latvia.

Ice Hockey
Luge
The Luge World Cup will resume in November.

Plans for 2018-2020 USA National Thread
I notice that this National Thread is quite dead during the non Olympic months so I've created a system of posts that I will be posting from now until 2020. There will be three main different posts Week in Summer, Week in Winter, and Trek to Tokyo.
Week in Summer: The Week in Summer posts will be all different USA Summer Olympic sport news that don't have a direct correlation to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics such as FINA World Diving Series or events like that.
Week in Winter: These posts will be all different USA Winter Olympic sport news that don't have a direct correlation to the Beijing 2022 Olympics such as Curling World Championship or Alpine Skiing World Cup.
NOTE: DUE TO SO MANY WINTER & SUMMER SPORTS THESE POSTS WILL BE AT THE END OF EACH WEEK RECAPPING THE WEEK!
Trek to Tokyo: These posts are all about USA qualifying for the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics. The posts will come as matches happen for qualifying.
NOTE: I know this will be a lot to handle but I've been working on a spreadsheet that helps me a ton, I think the only time I won't be able to post these is if I'm away from a computer (which is not much). As we get closer to the Summer Olympics there will be more and more posts on Trek to Tokyo and probably less on Week in Summer. I've not yet finished my spread sheet for all the sports yet (I'm working on the summer sports first) so It might take a week or two before the Week in Summer & Week in Winter posts start up!
