  1. Kiwi equestrian teams have been named. Mark Todd is there. Eventing Clarke Johnstone (Balmoral Sensation) Jonathan Paget (Clifton Lush) Jonelle Price (Faerie Dianimo or Classic Moet) Mark Todd (Campino or Leonidas) 5 time Olympic medalist Mark Todd is going to his 7th Olympics, he is the individual Olympic champion from Los Angeles in 1984 and Seoul in 1988. Tim Price will be the travelling reserve. Dressage Juile Brougham (Vom Feinsten)
  2. They qualified 4 athletes across other events. Rules in canoe sprint allow any kind of a combination (in men's kayak, men's canoe and women's kayak), as long as you have enough athletes to do so.
  3. And Costa Rica did it, what an awesome surprise this is!
  4. Women's 3000m steeplechase Marie Eliane Saholinirina - 9:44.50 (NR) What an awesome news! IAAF doesn't allow wild cards in steeplechase (for whatever reason), so she had to reach the standard and she did it. Steeplechase was always her event, but she always had to compete in 1500m at the big events because of that IAAF's rule. Her PB in 1500m is some 10 s slower than Olympic standard, just to show how stupid that rule is. Men's 200m Adama Jammeh - 20.45 (NR) Men's 5000m Namakwe Nkhasi - 13:21.68 (NR)
  5. Austria defeated Belgium in men's final and qualified for Rio.
  6. FINA still hasn't published anything regarding reallocations. I think we can expect some lists next week though.
  7. New Zealand equestrian teams will be named tomorrow, after that they will need to be confirmed by NZ Olympic Committee. Eventing team will definitely be approved by NZOC, but dressage individual's selection might be tricky. NZOC is looking for top 16 potential and Kiwi riders aren't exactly in that league. If they don't accept it, then it will be the Phillippines that will get the dressage quota (they have Minimum Eligibility Standard so no worries there).
  8. Sad for Vanuatu, but it's not all lost. They still have the final tournament.
  9. Looks like it is. I've found out earlier that "Qatar" defeated KAZ, so this should be it.
  10. Venezuela won the women's tournament and will be the South American representative... Belgium and Austria will play the men's final in Europe tomorrow. Qatar will play in Asian men's final (don't know who is the opponent). Results coverage of this is absolutely horrible. The only source of information are various twitter accounts.
  11. Well, scores can often get inflated at the national championships in judged sports (sort of a moral booster).
  12. Finally good news, Rwanda managed to qualify a woman in 10000m race.
  13. And I even forgot to mention the nearest miss. Senegal failed to qualify in men's 400m hurdles by 0.01s (they still have 0 athletes in athletics).
  14. African championships just before the Olympics is usually a great chance for smaller nations to grab couple of quotas, but this one has been a disaster so far. Gambia missed standard in men's 200m by 0.02s, Burkina Faso in men's triple jump by 0.04, Lesotho in men's 10000m by few seconds and so on...
  15. This is incredible. Moroccan guy won the 5th place even though he didn't show up in his quarterfinal bout!! Moreover, Azeri guy who defeated Moroccan by WO (walk over) in quarterfinals also won both semifinal and final by WO. Please kick this shit from the Olympics.
  16. Are our people really THAT stupid? I really hope this isn't true...
  17. This 5th place decider is a big joke. A whole bunch of boxers withdrew from semifinals yesterday. I'm sure quarterfinal losers were happy to see that.
