  3. I'll be starting off with Spain Vs Slovenia in Men's handball.
  4. 4/10 that opening ceremony for me. Out of all the ceremonies I've watched (12,16,20,24) this was by far the worst. Having it outside didn't help and meant that there quality went down quite a bit. The main thing I noticed, which ruined a lot of the segments, was that the artists singing were lipsyncing the song (and doing so very badly) and made for poor viewing. The vast majority of the artistic pieces were of poor quality and probably wouldn't have been better if they'd have been in the stadium. I mean whoever thought the threesome and catwalk segments where a good idea needs a serious talking to and bollocking. There were some segments I liked. I found the heavy metal, horse and minions segments enjoyable and the the athletes parade was better than I expected. What I found mad was the contrasting reactions to the ceremony on French TV compared to BBC. The lass presenting on French TV was crying so much they had to cut to a break and then see continued to cry on air for another half an hour, whereas on BBC Michael Johnson and Rebecca Addlington where slagging it off afterwards. The main good thing to come out of this though is that we now know having an opening ceremony outside is a very bad idea and will very likely never be done again. I feel extremely for the people who paid thousands to watch this shambles and get absolutely soaked.
  5. Rugby sevens is always one of best fan experiences at any multi sports event. When I went at the 2022 Commies the atmosphere was like nothing I'd ever experienced before, with the best moment coming when Sri Lanka men's scored against NZ men's to lead the match (they ended up losing 95 - 5) and everyone in the stadium went into absolute pandemonium. I'm going on Monday for the Women's pool stage and am hoping for a similar atmosphere there. The success of the tournament got me thinking about the potential inclusion of 9s, and I think something that would really well would be to have the 7s in the first week and the 9s in the second week. With how well the 2 codes complement eachother, fans will easily be able to get on board and would come in their thousands to each session over the 2 weeks which would be massive in helping get the codes of union and league back on the map after their recent struggles. It also means more rugby, which is always good news.
  6. No you do have some good points there apart from the second one and the last one. As an avid watcher of rugby, mainly league, this is one of the reasons why I think the 9s format would suit the games perfectly and arguably better than 7s. The matches are longer, the clock is stopped more frequently when play has halted and drop goals are encouraged more and play a more frequent role in the game of rugby league compared to union.
  7. Yeah he didn't half go quiet. I think he thought this was one of those forums where we constantly shove our opinions down eachother's throats and aggressive message eachother, but when he found out (in the hardest way possible) that we're one of the civilised ones he just faded out of existence.
  8. Wonder where our NZ friend is right now? Thought NZ where better than Fiji and Australia and not using NZ as an example was "embarrassing"? Think I forgive for beating us in the final qualifier.
  9. Not really. Women's LWD, Men's Pair, Men's 8, Women's 8, Men's 4, Women's 4 and Men's Quadruple all got strong claims for gold.

  11. Yes Bell's performance was brilliant, there were just so many today I couldn't remember them all. And I instantly realised my mistake regarding not only after I'd said it, I always forget they've medalled for some reason. Also regarding the 400m Hurdles, I think Karsten and Rai are a class above the rest and won't be surpassed by anyone else but I think Dos Santos is quite vulnerable to the rest of the field. I don't know what it is but he seems to be lacking quite a bit of pace in-between hurdles (mainly at the start and end) which is giving him too much to do going into the final straight compared to Karston and Rai and leaving him open for an attack from someone like McMaster or Clarke. Hopefully the heats and semis will help McMaster to prepare for the final and go close to his PB (which is what is at least needed to overtake Dos Santos) but I'm not as confident as I was before.
  12. Great day for on the track (Reece Prescod aside), particularly Hudson-Smith, Reekie, Reardon (who unfortunately isn't going to Paris) and Hodgkinson who ran incredible PB's, Tebogo and Alfred looked really good also and looks very likely to win their very first Olympic medal ( first as well in the form of Alfred). Dissapointed with McMaster today, I know I shouldn't take too much from it but I'd have liked him to be closer to Dos Santos, who he'll be battling with for bronze in Paris, as opposed to being beaten by Clarke.
  13. 200m back is a massive stretch given that a low 2:06 will realistically be needed at the very least to clinch a medal (which would be a 1 second PB for Shanahan), but given that a lot of the top athletes in this event have multiple swims across the meet I wouldn't be too surprised if a 2:06.6 or a 2:06.7 is just enough to sneak a medal.
  14. He should be able to get the quota, there's bags of time for all parties to agree on everything.
  15. I agree with everyone on that list, the only ones I'd add are Stephens and MacInness (200m Fly), Pardoe (10km) and at a real stretch Shanahan (200m Back). I can't remember a games (2012 - present) where the vast majority of events across individuals and relays have at least 4-5+ serious medal contenders, this will be a games where we either come away with a lot more than expected or a lot less.

  18. I think everyone agrees, including England fans, that it's not a penalty. But under the current rules it has to be given, not only has Dumfries not made contact with the ball when he made his challenge but he made contact with Kane's foot with his studs up. If that's anywhere else on the pitch it's given as a free kick, so really it should be no different here. It terms of VAR getting involved, it seems in almost all cases if the attacking team shouts loud enough they'll look at it.
  19. If that's the case then Prisecariu will have also been invited in Women's 200m Back as well as Reid in Men's 400m Free.
  20. 100%, as if Cabanes has had her invite accepted then Shortt should (if all the rules are followed) get one as well.
  21. He must've had his invite rejected by Swim Ireland then. Would make sense since he was allowed to do Junior Euros.
