  1. Well why have the IAAF brought in the whole world rankings system if they don’t ultimately aim to take the control away from NOC’s.
  2. They could move to entirely world rankings based which would increase the backlash not selecting athletes would bring. They could also say rejecting too many quotas means you lose a relay place or two even if it’s not the same event,
  3. The BBC will remind viewers during every event where a GB atheltes was rejected the chance to compete. I honestly think by 2028/2032 will see the ability for a NOC to reject a world ranking quota be at least partially curtailed. Also shocking that Men’s 10000m, Mens 400m Hurdles, Men’s High Jump, Men’s Long Jump and others will have no representation. Sfotr Lincoln might be the only non track/Road Male in the team.
  4. Dame Laura Kenny has retired. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cycling/68579889
  5. Fitzgerald’z big problem is that unless she changes her mind on flying she won’t be at the majority of big champs.
  6. They will need to as this funding level post 2026 will likely require an Olympic medal.
  7. Such a shame as with Russia banned a medal would have been achievable. Funding is going to be under heavy scrutiny for all sports.
  8. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cycling/68584772 BBC write up.
  9. He is out with a bad ankle injury. He fell off the high bar in training. Doubt he will even be in training before Paris.
  10. I think getting 51 medals - as many medals as Beijing, is the minimum needed to avoid issues about the whole idea of lottery funding coming under scrutiny. And that’s a very tough target. Anything under 40-45 medals and even successful sports will be getting cut. My guess is about 42-47 medals.
  11. I did notice the BBC might not be showing it - they only promoted the Marathon and London Diamond League as pre Olympics coverage
  12. Well I’ve been told by someone who knows someone who could make that criteria but most likely not Paris that they have been told they might not be much of a team as finances are bad bad bad.
  13. Maybe they will change but it seems like no team is what people connected to the sport think is happening because of cost reasons.
  14. I don’t they there is any money to spend on development athletes or taking those not worthy of the Olympics.
  15. No team at Rome apparently according to my source.
  16. GB are apparently not sending a team to Rome for the Europeans according to someone I know connected to an athlete.
  17. Just wait till LA 2028 when the Cuban team is banned from competing.
  18. I think any Artistic Gymnastics medals will come solely from the men.
  19. The 4 x 100 is the first day. Not the best look to skip a relay on the first day due to an artificial quota particularly as the two solo finals that day won’t have any British entrants in the event nor one of the two evening semis.
  20. Can they fit enough for all the relays within 30? I can see one of the women medley relay getting the boot if they need to cut one or two people.
  21. The IOC loves control and the governing bodies love control. Athletics is clearly heading towards an entirely world ranking based system and swimming will follow.
  22. Wiki says the limit was actually 35 for Tokyo. The squad was 30 in Tokyo and they skipped one relay when they still seem to be aiming to accept all the relays this time around. ,
  23. Will they want the BBC going on and on about swimmers missing out to artificial limits. The BBC love selection drama stories.
  24. I suspect come Brisbane in 2023 that policy is gone - it’s clear the direction of travel is for NOC’s and domestic governing bodies to lose selection power and things to be uniform across the world.
  25. The 10-9 makes no logical sense anyway.
