    I can’t see why they would need him in the relay. The fact both swimming and athletics could have selection stories prominent in the press is going to make a tense buildup. Can see eventually a rule that says an NOC can only determine selection via a domestic championship when more than 2 reach a global set time - no extra rules for any country - you set the global time and your NOC must take you or lose places in other events.

    It could get very messy and of course there is the chance of swimmers going public and we know the press will give a platform to selection complaints. Through is there anyone actually likely to get a Time and an empty spot and not be taken? Particularly in no capacity whatsoever?

    And also one of the bigger events in terms of prestige. Compared to Rio and Tokyo it is going to be more noticeable to the wider public when Brits are not in swimming or Athletics events at all. After two excellent games for swimming where the finals were in the middle of the night they deserve one where the success is in primetime. (As well Beijing as well)) after both Athens and London underwhelmed.

    Maybe but depends on if they think any of those extra swimmers might be able to medal in a relay. And that feels like it only aplies to the men’s and mixed.

    It’s interesting that British Gymnastics announce it on social media as if all six are part of the team event with the main graphic not containing the distinction.

    They won’t. If anything they probably want less than 30 for cost reasons.

    The French government are cowards. They could announce no Russian or Belarusian will be given a visa to compete and the IOC will have no right to interfere
