I have tried to make a detailed list of qualifiers for the Irish team, number of sports, events qualified, etc. as well as a list of potential qualifiers also (even if some are unlikely). @dodge @Oldira could you have a read through and check over my work as I'm sure there will be mistakes? I was reading the qualification document but I am still not sure so I will ask here. How may athlete quota places are awarded to a nation for a team in the mixed 4x400m relay? And for example, in the case of Ireland, Thomas Barr has qualified in the 400m hurdles... if he were to participate in the relay, does he have to be listed as part of the relay quota, or can we nominate others to fill the relay quota and still choose him in the relay? Not sure if I am explaining this well

Either way I hope Aoife Gormally gets her chance. She put in a fantastic performance at the Europeans finishing 7th and would be our first female shooter since 1996 and she is high up in the rankings. Derek on the other hand has had his chance at multiple Games and is not currently very high in the rankings. I wish we could take both of course!

Are you sure about Ireland in men's trap? From the rankings I see on ISSF site from end of March, our highest ranked is Derek Burnett and he is behind and . On an unrelated note, can someone tell me if a swimmer has an OQT in one event, are they allowed to enter any event that they have an OST (providing not above 2 per nation quota)?

We only have 3 male swimmers qualified and one is in 800m freestyle so this could definitely affect a couple of our guys. There is one more chance for them to qualify for Olympics this month. FINA might end up awarding them invitations with the OST times and our federation should accept those invites if that is the case. But given there are 10 lanes in the Olympic pool, they should just allow them in now. It was already a hard blow to lose the spot by 0.01 secs in the final days and then for FINA to send them an invite and take it away would be salt in the wound. I have no idea about Switzerland to be honest.

I think it’s almost certain now that Greece are going to be invited. But will FINA do the right thing now and allow Ireland and Switzerland to keep their places too? It would be exceptionally cruel to inform the teams they qualified and crush those dreams and all of those private moments of celebration the athletes will have shared with friends and family when the invite was received.

Currently, Ireland's Russell White is in the 55th and final Olympic qualification spot and has been defending that position for a while now. Hopefully he can make it over the line in Mexico next weekend to join Carolyn Hayes in Tokyo.

There's another race next week in Mexico which is the last chance for qualification points.

We now have 6 boxers qualified for the Olympics, more than I thought to be honest! Not betting on medals again this time but not impossible. Emmet Brennan still has a chance to make it too in the box offs.

The fact that so many of these governing bodies don’t release official statements or explanations is creating so much confusion and controversy. What a farce it would be for them to invite Ireland and Switzerland and then to rescind the invitation. And if they haven’t explained to the Greek federation the reasons for their exclusion, that is really poor from their communications department. What is going on? That is what everyone wants to know, not least the athletes involved and only FINA can explain that.
