dodge reacted to nitinsanker in Modern Pentathlon Qualification to Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games
IMHO.....
Can we say an Elite Athlete can and should make their own choice... If a women who has worked her heart out to be an elite sportsperson takes a choice to either have or not have a baby it should be their choice and frankly all of us should stay the heck out of it

It isn’t even borderline bullshit. It is just straight up bullshit.

"Most elite female athletes from the US and Europe would be ringing up their abortionist"? Lol, no.
1) They generally don't have 'their abortionist'
2) Most elite female athletes who are in her position in the athletic sense would be using birth control
3) I'm fairly sure, but this is an assumption, most elite female athletes with who birth control didn't work would sit out the Olympics instead of thinking "oh ok, abortion!".
I mean, we can have nonsense discussions all day long, but saying most in her position would just go for an abortion is just borderline bullshit.

I'm with Phelps here. It's effectively a snow and ice games rather than a "winter games".
Speaking as somebody from a country who isn't tropical and whose people don't care about the Winter Games, it's really no big deal that not everybody is involved.
It doesn't really need any changes to it at all

when the new rankings come out, it would be really helpful if someone who knows the intricacies of the UCI track ranking could do up a little preview of the World Championship and what possible qualification scenarios exist
I realize it's probably far too much work though!

i'm already on it, but you're right it's a little too much. I'll start to upload the previews next week.
So far the following quotas are 100% sure:
in men's team pursuit.
in men's team sprint
in women's team sprint
Even if they get disqualified at this year's worlds, they couldn't drop below 8th place.

should absolutely be doable with about a month to go

Just to be clear, I meant that they had everything the needed to qualify
I wasn't suggesting there was anything untoward
Happy to see Woolley qualify as he was very close to doing so for Rio

Liang lost the semi final and failed to grab the quota. Congrats to Woolley.

only if Jang Jun wins the Grand Slam ranking, but CHN should still have a theoretical chance to grab that spot and leave Wolley out...

no that was irrelevant, Grand Slam is a different tournament will be held in China in 2 weeks. and has its own ranking. (adding points from 2017, 2018 and 2019 Grand Slam)
right now these 2 Koreans are leading in that ranking too but there is a Chinese guy next to them, if that guy Liang Yushuai wins this 2019 Grand Slam he also will win the quota. otherwise it goes to Woolley and I can say that's highly unlikely for the Chinese guy to win the gold. there will be lots of guys better than him in the competition.

Seems Valencia was quick (all praise Nike!) because Paul Pollock ran 2:10.17 to qualify too

I get that, but it's a bit harsh to keep blaming everyone who bans Russia instead of blaming those who are actually to blame for all of this, the Russian authorities. I don't know how much further things should go before at some point one should say "Look, this sucks badly for innocent athletes as well, but this has got to be stopped and resolved."
There's not really a 'good' way to go about all it, but just banning athletes who have actually been caught makes the whole Russian system get away with it.

have qualified for the Olympics
Congrats to them.
They'll play in the final here but with Japan already in, they take the Asian quota available

No real controversy this time. The Canadians wanted to query one of the 8 second rulings (when Ireland scored) and they said it couldn’t be checked. Irish TV checked it and it was 7 seconds so all good anyway
Anyway...
So happy to see our women’s team qualify. They’ve been so close in previous qualifiers and finally got over the line!
Now we just need to 0-0 (shoot out win) to a medal in Tokyo ?
So proud of the effort from these girls

TEAM is now at 45 with the addition of 16 women hockey players!
First ever women's team to qualify in hockey
First ever women's team to qualify in any team sport

dodge reacted to MHSN in Taekwondo WTE Extra European Championships 2019
Taekwondo wasn't part of the European Games. so this is an EXTRA European Championship to make up for that in the World Ranking. in short this is not a real European Championship but a very important tournament for the World Ranking with 40pts up for grab for the gold medalists.
and one can say if European Taekwondo Union can't or don't want to put taekwondo into the European Games maybe they don't deserve to have a Grade-4 tournament instead.
