Reizlin will more than likely withdraw against Anokhin. Or at least that's what the Hungarian federation is suspecting.

I mean, it's just the nature of swimming that the times are constantly improving. Technological advancement in general impacts swimming far more than athletics. -

McIntosh should have stayed in 200 IM instead of this. -
Swimming at the Aquatics WA World Championships 2023
Vektor replied to Totallympics's topic in Swimming
Maybe some swimming expert can help me with this. I am thinking that the Top13 in men's 4x100 free (all the relays with at least a 3:14) should be kinda safe for Doha, unless the times improve even further. Meaning that maybe these relays are already be kinda safe for Paris: And you got 3 more spot, one of those should be taken by As for the women... I guess the Top11 at least should be safe? -

I think it's safe to say that quotas for and in both events. Maybe takes the men's quota now that the Brits killed their gold medal chances. -
Swimming at the Aquatics WA World Championships 2023

SwimSwam projected a really close race between the US and Australia for the first place on the medal table Around 10-12 gold medals for both. The 2001 Worlds at Fukuoka was the last big international event where the US wasn't #1 on the medal table. is expected to be third on the medal table thanks to McIntosh. -

Well, you can achieve individual WRs / CRs / NRs as the first swimmer of a relay, so I am not entire sure if you can also achieve OQTs. -

@MantaRaymarc Did Nándor Németh achieve an OQT today in men's 100 free as the first swimmer of the Hungarian 4x100 free relay? He didn't have an OQT before this event, and his 100m today was 48.20. -

Swimming at the Aquatics WA World Championships 2023
Vektor replied to Totallympics's topic in Swimming
Well, this certainly is a new era for Hungarian swimming, we have to get used to being happy for smaller achievements. At least Holló is in the 400 IM final, which is great from him, hopefully he can achieve an OQT in the final. -
Preliminary rounds are done in men's sabre and women's epee. The number of athletes per nations qualified for the Round of 64: Men's sabre (25 nations) 4 athletes - 3 athletes - 2 athletes - 1 athlete - Women's epee (33 nations) 4 athletes - 3 athletes - 2 athletes - 1 athlete -

We are sending the "A-Team", basically the strongest possible Hungarian team. Anna Márton is back in women's sabre, a very needed help for our team to qualify to Paris. I am expecting 3 medals, and maybe 1 gold. But it's far more important for me to have the two epee and the two sabre teams in the Top8 at the very least. And also possibly the two foil teams if they surprise us. Four years ago the teams messed up the WCh at home in Budapest and we paid a big price for that in the qualification, this time should be different.

Well, better to happen in Monaco than in Budapest, but that's still shocking from Duplantis.

Men's Water Polo Tournament at the Aquatics WA World Championships 2023
Vektor replied to Totallympics's topic in Water Polo
v proved once again that the US is dangerous, they are the best non-European team at the moment and can upset Hungary in the QF if we have a bad day. No big surprises in the group stage, we are almost getting the bracket that I predicted earlier. v / v / v / v / -
Bad draw can still be an issue if a team gets unlucky. I mean, imagine this... gets defeated by here in the QF gets defeated by at the Euros in the SF (the winner of the other SF wins the quota there) gets defeated by yet again at the next Worlds in the QF If we somehow get Spain early on every time, we might not qualify to Paris even if we are supposedly the 2nd or 3rd best team in Europe, we are just unable to beat the best European team. This is why it's an AWFUL idea to have the World Champs as a final qualification tournament instead of an actual qualification tournament where already qualified teams can't compete.

Bumping this thread because it's one year from the Games and I missed this discussion in December last year. is kinda fucked, if the Games would be this year, my prediction would be 3 gold medals at best and overall 12 medals, which would be a huge downgrade after 3 successful Games in a row. Obviously IF Milák returns and IF he can still dominate 200 fly, that would be the biggest gold chance for Hungary. But for now I wouldn't include him because nobody knows if he ever comes back. So currently the Top5 gold medal chances are.... #1 Canoe Sprint - Men's K1 1000m - By far our strongest event at the moment with both Kopasz and Varga looking strong, they can repeat the 1-2 Hungarian finish of Tokyo in Paris #2 Canoe Sprint - Men's K2 500m - The Nádas+Kopasz boat looked amazing last year. They won't return this year because of how the qualification system set up, but I am sure that we will see them again in K2 in Paris #3 Taekwondo - Women's 57kg - Luana Márton had a major breakthrough this year. One WCh gold can be a fluke, but she also had the EG silver after that. And I expect her to become even better. #4 Fencing - Men's epee team - Out of all the fencing events, I feel like this is the biggest clusterfuck where we can rise to the top and this team is incredibly talented. But obviously we got many chances in fencing, hopefully we can turn one of those into a gold. #5 Water polo - Men's - We are one of the four or five teams at the moment who can win it. There doesn't seem to be a clear favorite, should be an interesting tournament.
