  1. Even in our current poor state, especially on the women's side, we still find a way into the women's 4x200 free final.
  2. Yeah... this is something we would never do even if we could send an enormously large team. Hungary's goal is to send as many athletes as possible. The Hungarian Athletics Federation is doing everything they can to help Hungarian athletes gain WR point even at the July 30th deadline, we will have multiple last minute events in the country this weekend. And I think we will end up with one of the largest Hungarian athletics teams ever at the Worlds Champs (not that large compared to the top nations, but it will be respectable from us)
  3. The funny thing is... 4 gold, 6 silver and 6 bronze isn't a terrible projection for . I mean, it does seem like a repeat of Tokyo with slightly less medals, but that's plausible IF they assume that Milák will return.
  4. Btw, here's an interesting stat: Géza Imre won men's epee at the 2015 Worlds and then lost the 2016 SOG final Gergely Siklósi won men's epee at the 2019 Worlds and then lost the 2020 SOG final Máté Koch won men's epee at the 2023 Worlds and then... And Krisztián Kulcsár also won men's epee at the Worlds before the Beijing Olympics. He flopped in Beijing, just like the rest of our team in that catastrophic Games. 4 out of the last 5 men's epee WCh competitions before the Games were won by Hungarians. We haven't won men's epee at the Games since 1972... Maybe this is how we are paying for the three consecutive Szilágyi gold medals. I find the most cursed stats even when we win.
  5. Not to take away from the individual competitions, but the most important part starts tomorrow with the first rounds of the team events. Here are the brackets... Men's sabre (34 teams) v / || v v / [ BYE ] || v v / [ BYE ] || v v / [ BYE ] || v v / [ BYE ] || v v / [ BYE ] || v v / [ BYE ] || v v / || v Women's epee (36 teams) v / || v v / [ BYE ] || v v / [ BYE ] || v v / || v v / || v v / [ BYE ] || v v / [ BYE ] || v v / || v Very important match between Egypt and Brazil early on in women's epee. If Egypt wins that match, they will almost certainly qualify to Paris. Hungary v Ukraine in the R16 can have lasting impact on the European quota.
  6. KOCH!!! We might be cursed in men's epee at the Games with the two final losses in a row, but not at the Worlds. We now have one former and one reigning World Champions in our men's epee team. Boys, please, don't mess up the team qualification.
  7. Now we have two fencers in men's epee who have been in WCh finals. And our third fencer, Andrásfi is also capable of such results. I will combust if we fail to qualify the team in men's epee again.
  8. Now that you mention it, we got the good draw in women's epee. v in the R16 will likely happen and that can be decisive match in the fight for the European quota.
  9. Kurbanov saw that @phelps didn't have anything to complain about, so he made sure to make things interesting. Joking aside, 4 different nations in the Top4. continues to impress.
  10. Koch wins against Siklósi, first ever medal for him at a big (SOG/WCh/ECh) tournament. This makes it official that Hungarian men's epee isn't a Siklósi one-man-show anymore.
  11. So we got the two individual medals that I was hoping for. Pretty good WCh for us so far, let's hope that the teams will also deliver.
  12. So either a miracle or we win a medal today. On one hand it's a medal, on the other hand I would have liked to see a chance for two Hungarians in the Top4. Maybe next time.
  13. on the rise, they almost had two fencers in the Top8.
  14. There are two places. Even if Germany/Poland takes one individual quota, the other will be up for grabs for the rest.
  15. Is that completely out of nowhere from Calugareanu? 93rd on the world ranking, she will be in the Top50 for the first time ever. She is now a contender for the individual quota.
  16. Wow, that's a disaster for France. They lost everyone in the R16, not a single French fencer in the women's foil Top8. The Italians can potentially win 3 medals.
  17. Well, on the other hand you just destroyed France in women's foil. We can see 4 Italians in the QFs if Batini wins against Huang.
  18. in the Top16 at a World Championship! The R16 in men's epee is colorful as it should be. v v v v v v v v
  19. Anokhin is making a run for it here to qualify to Paris. If he wins one more match, we might see a Russian fencer in Paris after all.
  20. Officially third fastest person in 200 fly behind Milák and Phelps. That sends a message to Milák, 200 fly might not be a cakewalk anymore if Kristóf can't return to top form.
  21. Continental qualification comes before the second World qualification. Which means that Australia will take the Oceania quota at the 2024 WCh no matter what. Unless somehow New Zealand take it from them, but that's almost impossible.
  22. This pretty much means that will fight for 3 spots. 1 of these 3 European teams will take the European quota and then the other two will have to defeat Canada to qualify.
  23. That projection seems insane for France. +22 gold medals compared to Tokyo. Not even Japan had that kind of increase (they had +15) and they got a bunch of favorable new events to perform stronger. I am not sure where French sport stands at the moment, but my guess would be in the range of 15-20 gold medals.
  24. The 21 remaining nations in men's epee in the R32 3 athletes - 2 athletes - 1 athlete -
