I mean, the number of posts I have seen online hating on Hungary regarding this incident made it quite clear that people wouldn't make such a big deal out of this if it was played in Western Europe. The video of the incident that went viral is also edited and don't show how much Zhang behaved irrationally. It's one thing to be angry at the umpire for a bad call and it's completely another to cause a scene and to halt the match for too long. Tóth was impatient and wanted to continue the match, she should have stayed out of the drama instead of making it worse. But it's also not "incredibly bad" from a young player to not know what to do when your opponent has a literal mental breakdown because of one bad call. Zhang should have never entered a WTA tournament in this state, the full video makes it obvious that she has some serious issues. If a player doesn't have the mental ability to move on from a bad umpire call and continue the match, they are not fit to enter a professional tournament.

Ultimately what I don't want is the racism angle to be pushed. Don't use internal American politics in Europe. Just because Asian Americans are dealing with racism in America, it doesn't meant that a situation like this with an Chinese athlete is fueled by racism. China in general is using the race card a lot of time to try to bend the narrative. They have earned their negative reputation in the Western world, and innocent Chinese athletes like Zhang may suffer the consequences of that. Tóth should make an apology for not handling the situation well and the umpire should get demoted for doing a very poor job. But the level of hate Tóth and Hungary are getting here went way over the line and it's clearly the result of anti-Hungarian bias in the Western world (Thanks, Orbán!), just like how the anti-China bias may have caused this incident.

I can't say anything about how the umpire behaved, but as far as the Hungarians involved in this controversy are concerned, I wouldn't call their behavior racist. There are anti-China sentiments in this country and Zhang may have got unfortunate comments because of that, but that's not racism, just like how the hate towards Russian athletes isn't racist in nature. China is seen by many as an invasive country that is exploiting Hungary's corruption to gain control in the region, so I think the hate towards China will grow among the population, especially if they continue to build battery plants here, which the population universally dislikes.

I meant that she was competing yesterday and the news broke literally the next day. I feel like many times the athlete "disappears" from the spotlight before they get suspended, so you kinda see it coming.

Certified, classic Hungarian football moment: Ferencváros, the team that reached the R16 of Europa League last year, is losing against the champion 0-3 at home. -
Well, I sure didn't think yesterday that I will be among the last people who saw her compete live. Completely out of nowhere.

Winning a tennis match by causing a panic attack, that is some advanced level of strategy. Joking aside, Tóth obviously should have been more patient and understanding instead of adding fuel to the fire. But it's also a bad look for women's tennis if a GS winner like Zhang can be forced to withdraw with some basic asshole behavior. If someone gets a panic attack under these circumstances, maybe they shouldn't be participating in a professional sports tournament. You would expect a higher level of professionalism in one of the highest paying individual sports in the world.

Don't be a troll. People don't give a shit about doping scandals at this point, cycling for example even survived Armstrong and it's still very popular. I don't want to kink shame, but your enjoyment of these weird Nostradamus sports predictions is starting to look very unhealthy.

Remélhetőleg a VB jobban alakul. L5 Kajak-kenu, férfi K1 1000m L4 Kajak-kenu, férfi K2 500m Vívás, férfi kard csapat L3 Atlétika, férfi kalapácsvetés Kajak-kenu, női C2 500m Vívás, férfi párbajtőr egyéni Vívás, férfi kard egyéni Vívás, férfi párbajtőr csapat Vívás, női párbajtőr egyéni Cselgáncs, női 52kg Cselgáncs, női 63kg Öttusa, férfi egyéni Öttusa, női egyéni Sportlövészet, férfi 50m puska összetett Úszás, férfi 10km Taekwondo, női 57kg Vízilabda, férfi Vízilabda, női Birkózás, férfi 65kg szabadfogás Birkózás, férfi 97kg szabadfogás Birkózás, férfi 77kg kötöttfogás Birkózás, férfi 87kg kötöttfogás Összességében érmek tekintetében jelenleg ez a realitás, jobb esetben: Vívás - 3 érem Cselgáncs - 1 érem Birkózás - 2 érem Vízilabda - 1 érem Öttusa - 1 érem Kajak-kenu - 2-3 érem Egyéb (atlétika, úszás, sportlövészet, taekwondo) - 2 érem

So far it seems the quotas will go to... or or in the upper half of the bracket or in the lower half of the bracket -

It's early in the tournament, but that looked pretty good against Croatia. We should march into the Top4 at the very least, we will likely have to beat Spain for the Olympic quota in the semi. -
Athletics Qualification to Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024

Kudos to him fighting the heat wave like a champ. He was the only one out there who handled it well. -
Gyulai Memorial was fun, but also hot as fuck, especially during the hammer throw, which is prob why Halász failed to reach the Olympic ES. But hey, we got an OES in men's 400, so I am not complaining.

The entry lists for the Gyulai Memorial are out on the main page: https://gyulaimemorial.hu/en/ M4 Sport will broadcast the entire event live on their website from 14:00 CET (but it will probably be blocked outside of Hungary, so you will need a VPN for that). It should be a fun event. My only wish is an Olympic ES (78.20) from Halász in hammer, everything else would be a bonus.

Athletics EAA Under 23 European Championships 2023
Vektor replied to Totallympics's topic in Athletics
I am actually not blown away by that generation of Hungarian junior swimmers, no matter how many medals they won. We maybe got two talent there who can win an Olympic medal one day, Pádár and Jackl, but I wouldn't be surprised if none of them will deliver Olympic medals in LA and/or Brisbane. Look at the results, not the medals. It's not Italy or Hungary who are the big winners there, it's with Pudar and with Mitsin. -
Athletics EAA Under 23 European Championships 2023
Vektor replied to Totallympics's topic in Athletics
Meanwhile we had a fine ECh here with 5 medals. It's not some amazing breakthrough, but at least Hungarian athletics still exists in some form. Boglárka Takács is the best female sprinter we had in ages, at the very least she can be a marketable face for Hungarian athletics if she continues to improve and pushes the 100m national record below the 11sec barrier, which should be possible in the next few years under the right conditions. But sadly we don't have an Olympic medal winning talent in this generation, Bence Halász will have to carry us in men's hammer throw as our only medal contender in Paris and maybe even in LA. -
My expectations continue to be low until the girls finally prove that we can be competitive again on the senior level. We have won literally everything on the youth and junior level in the last few years, at some point we might actually have one or two world class players, but for now... yeah, not really. We had two Hungarian clubs in the women's Champions League Final 4 this year, yet we are still lacking actual star players who can lead Hungary to a medal at an international competition.

Men's Water Polo Tournament at the Aquatics WA World Championships 2023
Vektor replied to Totallympics's topic in Water Polo
This really isn't the Serbia anymore that dominated water polo a few years ago. Spain is likely winning their group as it was expected. -
Yeah, they most likely will. This is my current prediction on how this will go down: Direct qualifiers Host - Worlds - Europe - America - Asia - Africa - OQT participants Worlds - Europe - Romania and Serbia are in a bad situation because of their low ECh placement, they can miss out on the OQT, so it will be very important for them to finish above Croatia/Hungary. The issue with that is that they got a bad draw compared to Hungary and Croatia. This draw definitely benefits us and Croatia more and we are already in a better position thanks to the Euros. Also, in a strange way the easier path for Hungary to qualify to Paris is to get defeated by Sweden and Montenegro and to win against Croatia. Getting the 9th place here is better than to go into the Top8 as you would avoid the European teams at the OQT...

Men's Water Polo Tournament at the Aquatics WA World Championships 2023

Let's see how much the group stage will shake things up. This would be the most predictable bracket: v / v / v / v / -
I completely missed that the draw was already made more than a week ago. Teams fighting for the Top8 Path A/B - Path C/D - Path E/F - Path G/H - Honestly the Top8 seems very predictable: (with Brazil as a spoiler on G/H) If everything goes as expected will be direct qualifiers and we can probably add Brazil to that. There's a good chance that almost every Top12 team here will earn either a direct spot to Paris or an OQT spot. Goal difference can also play a big part in who qualifies to the OQT, so Hungary, Croatia, Romania, Serbia and others will have to beat their weaker opponents by as wide of a margin as they can to ensure a good placement. It's still incredibly stupid from IHF that we don't have 9-12th placement matches.... Anyway, our girls will simply have to beat Croatia and I think we will have a pretty good chance to earn an OQT spot. Our draw is quite good. If we will fail against Croatia for the second tournament in a row, we don't deserve to be in Paris.
