  1. Yeah, that's pretty much it. Cheer for us to be in the Top4 with Italy and France, and you will have a pretty good chance to qualify, you "just" have to be 4th strongest European team in men's epee. But the fight for the European quota will be quite crazy if + + will all be in the WR Top4. You will have the advantage over the others by being higher on the current World Ranking (8th), so you will get easier opponents. You would actually qualify to Paris if the current WR would be used for the qualification. But it's far from over, there will be 4 more World Cup events. 4 out of the 5 WC results count for the ranking, the 5th worst World Cup placement of a team is excluded.
  2. There must be a good objective reason to cut a sport. Not being popular enough won't cut it as a reason. Weightlifting, boxing, Greco-Roman wrestling and modern pentathlon all have "good reasons" to be dropped, sadly. Weightlifting and boxing for their tarnished international federations, GR wrestling for the lack of female events and modern pentathlon for the show jumping debacle. Why would be field hockey cut? I don't see it.
  3. So much stuff was happening in the past days that I missed this news. György Herczeg with a new U20 European record in men's javelin throw, you don't see something like this often from a Hungarian athlete in this sport. 84.94m at the age of 18: https://www.facebook.com/gerely.hu/videos/1200588723944009
  4. Btw, do we even have a host for the 2024 European Aquatics Champs? It should happen in next May, it's less than 10 months away, and I think Kazan got the hosting rights originally, but yeah... that's not happening. Will Budapest have to step in again to host one of these?
  5. So... what can we expect for Doha? Who will show up to that? I feel like most of the top nation got their qualification times here in the relays with the exception of GB in men's 4x100 free, so there are no good Olympic qualification reasons to go to Doha. I have a feeling that Hungary will send an almost full team, but our swimmers won't be in top form at the end of the winter. The Euros in the spring will be seen as more of an "Olympic training event" for us than the Doha Worlds. I can see Kós for example skipping the Worlds because he isn't training with the core team. FINA/WAqua messed up big time with having so many Worlds in the span of one and a half years. It's a waste of money, the Doha WCh can turn into a joke if nobody will take it seriously.
  6. This might be the first World Championships ever where none of the Hungarian female swimmers qualified for the Top8 final. Maybe this already happened during the 2000s once, I am not sure. But yeah, our women's team is very weak atm. Still only three of our female swimmers qualified to Paris. Pádár is the only one who showed improvements.
  7. Weightlifting got beyond fucked by scandals. Sure, every sport has scandals, but name one other Olympic sport where the president of the international federation got accused of tempering with the anti-doping process and then got a lifetime ban from CAS. You can't put that just aside and pretend like it happens in every Olympic sport. The Aján scandal tarnished the sport. The boxing scoring system is shit, makes it waaay too easy to cheat, not to mention that AIBA also fucked that sport and maybe it never recovers. All other Olympic combat sports have much better scoring systems with VAR in place to question every decision. Boxing is in its current state doesn't belong to the Olympic Games, it's more of a performance art of "who can perform the more visible punches for 3 rounds" than an actual clear combat sport. As for wrestling and rhythmic gymnastics... GR wrestling will be thrown out if they won't introduce women's GR. And RG has to introduce male athletes like artistic swimming did. Other sports are doing their gender equality homework while these don't, and there will be consequences of that eventually. As a Hungarian I want to keep Greco-Roman wrestling alive, but they are so behind the curve on gender equality that it might already be too late. It's like the wrestling federation isn't even trying.
  8. Do people still case about boxing? I mean, actual professional boxing, not just Olympic boxing. I feel like it faded so much, even compared to other professional sports. From what I see it has almost no online presence. The last time I saw a boxing match go "viral" was that stupid YouTuber boxing event. In Hungary the big televised boxing galas literally vanished from the country. I see UFC mentioned far more often. Boxing has the pop culture status as the most iconic combat sport and people sure watch movies about fictional boxing (Creed movies), but irl... the buzz around the sport seems very muted.
  9. Personally I just want tug of war back. Bring back tug of war, Bach, damn it! Maybe those poor weightlifters can switch to it and win some Olympic medals.
  10. Btw, have Hungary improved lately or is this more due to Russian ban in Group C? I feel like we haven't even noticed Hungary in equestrian during previous Olympic qualifications.
  11. Men's Epee Olympic ranking before the final 4 World Cup events 1. 193 pts - World 1 2. 172 pts - World 2 3. 168 pts - World 3 4. 164 pts - World 4 --- 5. 160 pts - Europe 6. 152 pts - Asia 7. 142 pts 8. 138 pts - Africa 9. 105 pts 10. 104 pts 11. 104 pts 12. 103 pts - America 13. 92 pts 14. 91 pts 15. 88 pts 16. 79 pts 17. 78 pts Women's foil Olympic ranking before the final 3 World Cup events 1. 296 pts - World 1 2. 256 pts - World 2 3. 228 pts - World 3 4. 216 pts - World 4 --- 5. 182 pts - America 6. 209 pts - Asia 7. 154 pts - Europe 8. 148 pts 9. 130 pts 10. 126 pts 11. 123 pts 12. 122 pts 13. 116 pts 14. 107 pts 15. 100 pts - Africa 16. 97 pts 17. 72 pts
  12. Nice, the boys finish 5th in men's epee. It's a shame that they couldn't fence for a medal today, but you can't have it all. The quota isn't secured, but I take this as a win for now.
  13. They already skipped two World Cup events. If they skip all of them, they will have 100 points on the Olympic ranking. Which might still be enough to qualify. Depends on if will send their team to the World Cup events or not. Women's foil has a small field, there's a chance that Egypt can still be Top16 on the WR without any WC points. Not to mention that Egypt performed well here, so their federation might feel like their girls deserve the quota after all and send them to the rest of the World Cup events.
  14. Meanwhile takes 5th place in women's foil while finishes 7th. This can be a big deal if collects the African quota. If not, both of them will qualify. Germany for now has the advantage for the European quota.
  15. wins bronze in men's epee, keeps the hopes alive for the American quota.
  16. Women's sabre Olympic ranking (8th place points given to the Top8 teams before the QFs) So Top8 teams can still gain a lot of points tomorrow. 1. 168 pts - World 1 (WCh Top8) 2. 146 pts - World 2 (WCh Top8) 3. 141 pts - World 3 (WCh Top8) 4. 141 pts - World 4 (WCh Top8) --- 5. 136 pts - Europe 6. 124 pts - Asia (WCh Top8) 7. 120 pts - World 5 (WCh Top8) 8. 116 pts 9. 114 pts 10. 108 pts (WCh Top8) 11. 104 pts 12. 101 pts (WCh Top8) 13. 100 pts - Africa 14. 95 pts 15. 86 pts 16. 77 pts 17. 75 pts ... 23. 56 pts
  17. Yes, they are for now. This is a big chance for them to solidify their Top4 place on the Olympic ranking. Meanwhile wins against in men's epee. Really important win for them. They keep their chances alive, hoping that France, Italy and Hungary will all be Top4 on the Olympic ranking.
  18. Huh, Italy only 10th in women's sabre. 9. 10. 11. 12. Really strange outcome for the European teams. Huge chance for tomorrow in the fight for the European quota. is 14th, they are coming for the African quota. But America flopped, there might not be a second American team in the Top16. The 16th place threshold can be close for to win the American quota. There will be a lot of drama here in the Olympic qualification...
  19. digging themselves deeper by losing against Belgium. The European quota is likely between Poland and Germany in men's foil.
  20. Okay, it looks like France and Italy are saving our ass in men's epee. Unless there's a major collapse at the end there, two v finals today.
  21. 50.14, same as Milák last year. Not as fast as peak Dressel and peak Milák in Tokyo, but they might never repeat those times.
  22. Igen, ezen a héten extra teljesítményt nyújtanak a legjobb sportolóink.
  23. takes a big step in men's foil thanks to their easy draw, they are in the Top8 while and gets eliminated in the R16.
  24. Yes. If Egypt gives up on the African quota, you will easily qualify. If they go for it, you will have to fight for the European quota against Germany.
  25. Our main hope in men's epee is that we will still be Top4 on the WR after the Worlds. And the same will apply to France and Italy. Which means the top three European teams will have a chance to turn this around in the last 4 World Cup events.
